i have taken a break from computer gaming and these sort of books are new to me... I am so far enjoying it. Recently tried out "Heavy Metal Thunder" from Kindle Unlimited and really glad that someone took time to write a scifi adventure. Hope more write sci fi gamebooks.
I love your passion for these game books, and the beautiful way you film your videos. I purchased a copy of the first of the Sorcery! series today for a very reasonable price due to your inspiration. Thank you!
Glad you like them, and I hope the Sorcery book will please you as well! Yes it's really a passion for me, same way it's a passion to film old computer stuff, if you''re interested you can check my other channel www.youtube.com/@RetroDream
Fantastic video! Just so you onow, italy had the same approach as France, with one single publisher releasing all the different game books under the same cohesive cover style. They gave them symbols too to identify which game book it was. To be fair they werent as pretty as the french one. The editor was E.Elle. cheers
I played those french books soooo often when I was a young teen! It was so exciting to go to my local library and choose a book from all those series merged into one clear style. Trying to play at least one of each series and then spending years on Lone Wolf because it was so much better (and linked) than most of the others haha
Oh yes I'm French actually! Since I have an awful French accent in English, most of the voice over is done by colleagues from the US, UK and Australia reading my scripts. I've made several takes where I explain this unusual situation, because I want to be transparent with my viewers.
I still own six collection books (3 books each) of the German translation. I got my own first Fighting Fantasy book (also in German, as I am German) at the age of around ten - The City of Thieves, which is still one of my favourites. I owned quite a few and I have treasured my collection books for decades now. All of the German edition had die in the outer lower corner to use as random dice roll, which was really useful, of course - they didn't need page numbers, after all.
Got into Fighting Fantasy here in Australia way back in about 1984 as I was looking for something more sophisticated than Choose Your Own Adventure which I loved for ages but started growing out of and needed something more. Still have my full set of FF as well as many other ganebooks which i couldn't ever bring myself to part with and today I'm so glad I kept them all! What a magical time the 80s were ro grow up in though i don't think i fully appreciated that back in the day. Probably because i was simply enjoying being a kid and not having to think so seriously about everything. And of course having the fun of being able to escape into these wonderful ganebooks!
You're lucky to still have your books! Yes we were simply enjoying back then, couldn't imagine that we would become nostalgic of these happy days thereafter.
@@AgeofInk yes it was a special time for sure. Video games are all well and good but personally I much prefer gamebooks where there was an element of having to supplement with your imagination and also you are of course utilising your reading skills. Yes I have kept all of my Fighting Fantasy, Grail Quest, Lone Wolf, Sorcery!, Way of the Tiger, Cretan Chronicles and several other gamebook series and also still have my Choose Your Own Adventure books. I'm certainly very glad that I kept than and did not make a stupid decision to sell them when I was younger!
@@AgeofInk that's a shame. I did get rid of some of my Choose Your Own Adventure books in my late teens when I didn't care about them anymore. When I was much older and had some disposable income I had to spend a reasonable amount trying to hunt down near mint replacements for the ones I'd sold. Fortunately for the most part I was able to do that but none of the replacements are in as almost perfect condition as my original copies. I'm very careful with my books lol. Hopefully one day you can also hunt some down online and get a collection going again.
wonderful collection 👏. can you remember 2 books, one with a white knight and the other had a black knight? it wasn't a story but gave you pictures of what was straight in front of you with each direction you chose. i'd loved to have played them and wondered if they were any good.

Thank you. I grew up lost in these books. They were one of my escape outlets to another world.
Thanks for your interest.
My favourite Fighting Fantasy book covers are the dragon print covers.
grew up reading the Lone Wolf series. still a fantastic series.

Good to know about Italian editions, that's interesting :)
I'm not a completionist, so I don't need every cover variant. I just want reader copies I can enjoy with my friends and family.

Absolutely! Same here :)
@@AgeofInk do you also speak french? I’m a french quebecer (from near Montreal) but I suppose those books were also in France and other countries

Ace of Aces was another picture based, two player gamebook that is a fun game. There is an old west setting version too.
@@johnm.withersiv4352 And the Dragon Knights too!
Japan had crazy covers.

Is it at all possible to get English translations of French Gamebooks?
They are themselves just translations of English ones...
