Haha I appreciated Jen's comment about prov 31. It isn't becuase I dont love that passage and find it worthy of study, but I DO tire of it being one of the few texts taught directly to women or used as source for studies onhow to be a Godly woman. Every part of the word of God applies to our lives as women, including women who are moms and wives and homemakers- the middle of Dueteronomy is just as applicable to my life as a stay at home mom as Proverbs 31. :)
I have listened to this several times and something wasn't sitting right with me about it all. The idea that women need to be teaching more than "women" things seems to be suggested. But why cannot we learn these other things from men (i.e., our husbands, pastors, etc.)? And at the same time, considering that the Lord has given a list of what women are to teach other women...Titus 2:4-5...so it often looks like "just proverbs 31" kinds of teachings. Remembering that Eve, and by suggestion, all women, are more easily deceived about the Truth, it keeps me humbled and willing to be in submission to and learning from the men whom the Lord placed in teaching roles above me.
I agree we should learn from men too. I’m curious. I’m seeing a lot of ladies saying women are more prone to deception. What do you do with the scripture where Paul tells all the Corinthians, men and women, not to be deceived like Eve? Paul seems to think it’s possible for all of them. Or the many verses , like in Jeremiah, that talk of the heart of man(kind) being deceitful and self deceived? Or that fools walk in darkness (because they know not the truth). Or that Jesus came into the world and his on people knew him not. It just seems to contradict the Bible, but I see it so often, I’d thought I’d ask in case I’m missing something.
Right on. There is more to us than Prov 31. All of scripture guides biblical womanhood.
