He didn't actually say why God let billions go to hell for the sole purpose of being born before Jesus other than "God created context to understand Jesus"
That doesn't explain it
And he goes off topic about jesus being tempted for the rest of the time
Your assumption that billions of people not going to hell after Jesus was born may be your problem. It wasn't like billions didn't go to hell after Jesus' death and resurrection. Therefore, do you really think people would trust in Jesus if he had come earlier? Humans always find reasons not to believe the truth even if it would mean mitigating the stronghold of nihilism or relativism and start living in the purpose of your creator.
I also don't think that John Piper's answer is necessarily the best formulated answer to this question. It might be that the 'U', 'L' and 'I' in TULIP steers him into this direction. In my opinion this question could be answered using the following argument:
God is all righteous, all knowing and all powerful
Jesus, being God in the flesh, was sent, bled, was killed and, we believe, resurrected at the time the Bible describes he was
Therefore, the time Jesus was sent, killed and was raised would be the best/right time for Jesus' death and resurrection
But I wouldn't be surprised that you would not agree with both premises. And therefore that would have to be the point of contention rather than the timing of Jesus' death and resurrection.
Have you read Hebrews or exodus? God got the Israelites out of Egypt, but the Israelites could not get Egypt out of their hearts. They saw great wonders and miracles from God and heard the gospel and they still went astray and were wicked. They did not enter God’s rest in heaven. Look at Judas. He saw all of Jesus miracles and wonders signs and proof Jesus was the Son of God the Father, yet Judas still betrayed and went straight to hell. The other apostles including Paul were complete failures until the Holy Spirit changed them by Gods work and without Gods mercy and grace they all would have ended up like Judas and the Israelites.
I pray you see this truth in Gods Word. I cannot stress this point enough which is why we need a savior to save us from our slavery of sin and death. We need new hearts as it is written.
The christian god is petty and silly ,doesn't have nothing to one do.
