VFR 750 Owner Review

  • When the VFR 750 was first released in 1986 and throughout its period of manufacture until the end of 1997 it remained head and shoulders the best all round sports touring motorcycle that money could buy. Over 25 years later, I believe a clean VFR 750 is still the best bang for your buck. They're so cheap nowadays that sellers are practically giving them away. You'd be daft not to buy one and experience it at least once in your life. They set a high standard against which all other motorcycles can be judged and rarely achieve.

    Good accurate review. Thank you.
I have had a 97 model since 2017 and have now covered 27k miles since I got it.
I love the long distance comfort, the +220 mile tank range, the engine which can be a low revving relaxed tourer or a screaming banshee at the top end of the rev range.
The down sides are that the original Honda rectifiers fry themselves, the exhaust collector box under the engine rusts through, but both are easily replaced with after market kit. Apart from that they are wonderfully reliable bikes with a remarkable quality of finish.
As you noted, the weight is a problem at low speed and the 25 year old plastic bodywork cracks easily if you drop it.
I love the rock steady handling. It's not flickable like a modern sports bike but it swoops through the twisty roads with great speed and grace.
    Highly recommended!

    my name is Jesus.
    I live in Spain (Cádiz).
I have a bike exactly like yours.
a friend gave it to me.
It has been in the garage for 15 years.
    I'm slowly fixing it.
    it stopped working.
    damaged from not being used.
Your videos are of great help to me.
    I like it a lot.
    Thank you

Hi bud myself have 3 vfrs one same as yours in red a 1988 fj model last vfr 1200f ridden every model my view is they are all good a tip for you wire rectifier direct to the battery and hard wire all plugs from the stator its the plugs that rot which causes bad charging faults done both mine also take rear shocker linkage apart and grease all the link pins my self hgv mechanic so do all my own repairs . Both off mine have stainless steel exhaust systems fitted carbs to set up are easy like you said these vfrs were built to last had most sport touring bikes but always come back to the honda.

It’s good to have a review on a bike that has high mileage - it’s more realistic. Also liked the info on maintenance. I’d call this a real world review. Thanks for posting.

Good information.. I have just purchased (last week) a 1991 VFR750, 3rd Gen I believe? It’s all original, white (I really wanted a VFR in white) with only 14k miles..
I have 6 other 90s bikes & have been riding since ‘89, but I’ve never owned a VFR.. well, I’ve fixed that now 😁
Looking forward to getting to know this bike

The VFR 750 is absolutely not a biginners bike...too powerful...but the VFR makes you feel fast as well, because of the soundscape, the stance, the power...it´s a lovely bike...I love riding mine but as a beginner rider I would have been sh1ting me pants.

Nice video! I’m late to the party, but what wind screen is that on your bike? Looks great and I’d like to get one for my own

Its an Airblade double bubble race screen. Its great. Looks ten times better than the stock exhaust as well.

The main thing I hate about the VFR, and I've had several, is the single sided swingarm is pointless with the exhaust located where it is. It negates the ease of wheel maintenance. Also, having owned the Suzuki RF900 during that era, that or CBR 900 were cheaper to maintain.
The VFR's best attribute was its cures. They are boring. The flat torque curve and lack of excitement over time is a buzz kill. That's why people got rid of them but come back. Oh, I've owned 4 over the years.

I don't see the point of 4 cylinder engines below 1L can someone please explain ...

You need to ride one of these to appreciate the v4. I have a '97 one of these and love it. The engines are so flexible, it's not at all like an inline 4.

@@trevorphillips3055 imo v4 is better of having in a car than in motorcycle, motorcycles should be light fast and easy to repait with your own hands, 4 cylinders is too much

@pironiero Not many cars with v4 engines. Although my mother used to own a v4 Saab 96 that I learnt to drive in back in the 1980's 🙂
