I think the apprenticeships had mileage but it would have taken time to find the perfect algorithm for training. It's different training approach and we all know how change scares the shit out of most of the universe!.. As you mention it was the worry of a two tier system that bothered a lot of folk but let's be real here, everyone has to get past the same exams and across the line to F1 land. I feel that was just a bit short sighted. Sad but sort of expected as this government is intent on destroying most of the NHS right now regardless of their potted stupid 'easier access' ideas that these clueless idiots come up with!..To make access to healthcare easier we need to train more staff and make this a bit more accessible, investing way more in this area. Medicine is not easy to get into that's for sure as we all know. it does not need to easier but it does need to be more accessible for sure and these programmes being cancelled will have lost a few folk who would undoubtedly made good doctors. Widening participation schemes are thin on the ground and so very limited it's still hard for the less privileged to even get a look in. Overall kind of short sighted by labour but this is going to be a key characteristic of this government term... Rant over 🙂

Valid. I wonder whether it’s dead in the water or we’ll see it come back in a few years after the next government change.
