Game Of Thrones only has 4 seasons in my mind. Season 5 and 6 has some good stuff in it, but there is just such an abrupt drop in quality and logic that it's like a completely different series. It's funny that now most people shit on Game Of Thrones because of season 8, but book readers have been dealing with this since season 5 and knew it coming. Season 4 of The Last Kingdom in two weeks!!!!!!
I am a die hard Vikings and GOT fan. I have watched TLK since season 1 and always felt it was a strong series but when season 3 was released I can honestly say this has surpassed Vikings. The story in vikings has been without any true direction since the loss of Ragnar. But TLK keeps its focus on Uhtred and his character has evolved so much and been the catalyst for the entire show that has been fun to watch.
@Hsn Khn Lagertha is a made up character, there is no historical evidence she existed. Uhtred was a real person just not in the time portrayed in the show. This series' timeline is actually more historically accurate, than Vikings. Both series show the invasion by the Great Heathen Army. But Vikings shows this invasion as taking place during the reign of King Ecbert (reign 839-858)(Alfred's grandfather) when in reality it took place in the closing days of the reign of King Aethelred I (reign 865-871), Alfred's brother and predecessor, as shown in The Last Kingdom. Taking away the fact that TLK is historical fiction based on books praised for their accuracy the biggest flaw in Vikings is the fact that it is based off of Norse Saga of Swedish-Danish Viking leader Ragnar Lothbrok, his exploits on British lands and the revenge of his sons for his murder by King Ælla of Northumbria. So once he died it the show became purely make believe. But all in all they both take creative liberties to try and make their shows work. I'm just saying as story arcs go, Vikings has gone into a bit of a tailspin while TLK has gotten stronger because it centers around a strong protagonist. In the same vain I think Brida, Alfred, Beocca, Ragnar the younger, Finan, Leofric, Hild are all powerful characters to follow in TLK.

Vikings is a show that in its premises is centered around a legendary figure from sagas written hundreds of years after the supposed individual lived. And in all likelyhood Ragnar represents multiple individuals from that age - there is no historical evidence that the Ragnar from the sagas even existed. And that's before we even get to the actual show and absolutely horrendous historical inaccuracies it commits. Without giving away too much for people who haven't watched that might come to read this, here's a few of some of the most blatant ones: - The show kills off multiple people who would eventually become kings of various regions before this ever happens. And thus kills off entire lines of historical discendancy - As Byron points out, the timeline of most events in the show is completely out of whack. Another example to what Byron added: the siege of Paris (845) occurs 52 years after the show begins (793). That would put Ragnar AT LEAST in his 70s during that seige which he clearly isn't... - Alfred The Great is portrayed as the son of a monk and Judith, instead of being the son of Aethelwulf and Osburh - They completely skip over the reigns of Aethelbald and Aethelberth (not even depicted in the series) and Aethelred - all of whom were King of Wessex before Alfred, and instead crown Alfred after the death of Aethewulf. Why any of these changes with Alfred were necessary is beyond me...as TLK proves, a more accurate depiction of Alfred's life is just as compelling as the garbage they cooked up in Vikings - The soldiers of Wessex wear Italian Helmets from the 16th century. Again, no clue why they couldn't just stick them in helmets from that era - which they do use in parts of the show. It's like if Ridley Scott had put everyone in WWII helmets in his film Kingdom of Heaven about the 12th century crusades. That's how far off in history the helmets are... And I won't even go into the armor, and/or lack there of that many of the characters wear in the show... - Rollo wasn't Ragnar's brother - Halfdan is said to be one of Ragnar's sons. Either way, he definitely wasn't Harald Fairhair's brother I like the VIkings for what it is; a fun action/drama fantasy based on Norse legend. What it definitely isn't is a historical series. You can't alter bloodlines, jump back and forth over 100+ years of history in one lifespan, skip over entire reigns and take most of your source material from legendary sagas and consider a show a historical series. TLK takes plenty of liberties too and is by no means meant to be an historical account. Butit at least gets Alfred's lineage correct, is much more accurate with the timeline. Overall, both series focus is more on entertainment than on historical accuracy.
The scene for the end of season 3 where Uhtred and Alfred meet and they have their final conversation really hit me in the feels. Having recently lost my father only a few months ago and they're being words unsaid between us and not having that chance to speak them hit me in the gut out of nowhere. Watching the scene with my wife I couldn't help but start tearing up. Wishing that I had that chance to speak the last words to my father. Show appreciation, love, everything goes with it. And this video is masterfully done
In their entireties? Because that's obviously a lie bud... 8 seasons of thrones 5 seasons of Vikings the latter few having 20 episodes each and 3 seasons of last kingdom that's at least, what? 12,000 hours? Call it an even 10... one hell of a weekend
Your ability to find parallels in shows is... just insane. This is incredible and so moving. I LOVE THIS! Definitely want to watch since it seems similar to Vikings.
To be honest, it actually made for a great story. I didn’t think they had the balls to kill him, but once they did, the show started to give a Game of Thrones feel.
This series has the best set of characters I've seen in years. Some of these characters dont even have to talk much to be loved. Badass dudes like Sihtric really grew to be amazing characters and I love Finan. That dude's sarcasm is on another level. Almost every character is likable and very very strong. Thats what drives me to this series.
The amount of people in these comments starting The Last Kingdom because of your videos fills me with happiness. For such an incredible show to be so unknown is a sin in itself. Keep up the videos and we'll guarantee a Season 4!
SPOILER.... After Alfred dies and his ***** of a wife tries to kill Uhtred, his speech is powerful especially when he said "Alrfed is the man I never could be" that hit me hard man they deep down really respected each other and each other's convictions
Season 3 was the best written season they've done. The way they were able to tie everything together into a complete circle. The story is finished yet we have so much more to go. So I will admit it was very hard watching Alfred die.

@@charlesoto2 I agree that Alfred did treat him badly. But what makes Uhtred special is that he keeps his word. He is a man of Honor. I do believe that if he was able to leave briefly to help her then to come back with Ragnar. He's put in a catch-22 situation. I've often found myself in similar situations. No matter what decision he makes someone is going to be upset and either feel betrayed or be angry. Whether it's at that point or later on in the future. I also believe that if Uhtred had told Ragnar about what happened with the priest and Alfred giving him an ultimatum of either to serve him again or have Ragnar executed he might have had a different opinion on the situation. Especially given that he did not know that Knut was scheming behind his back to have him killed. Something Uhtred would never do.

Uthred is such a tragic and beautiful character. One of the best characters ever written imo. People tend to ignore this show because they love Vikings and GoT but i think it’s better than both of them, simply because it doesn’t get bad with time, it gets BETTER, also since it’s not as big as GoT and Vikings, they had to focus on other things which is amazing Cast and great WRITING, something unfortunately both Vikings and GoT struggled with. Underrated masterpiece.
This show got better with every season. Uthred is amazing. Yes it was so underrated but it's really beginning to get the recognition it deserves. Can't wait to season 4. Love ...love this show...
watch this show people , it is based on the book series , The Saxon Stories by bernard cornwell , it tries to be accurate in terms of the timeline and is a better show than vikings in my opinion.
I know I am late to the party! Great job on capturing the essence Uhtred (Uhtred Son of Uhtred , Alfred's right hand man and Uhtred Ragnarson. ) I also love the dynamic you put between Alfred and Uhtred's relationship.
I think truly this is one of the best medieval series ever. I like it better than Vikings because it’s not as corny it’s more historical down to Earth in serious. It really shows the embodiment of the Vikings and what they wanted it shows the mindset of the people back then in with they believed. Silver plunder women black magic paranoia and superstition.
Still the best video out there capturing the essence of The Last Kingdom series! I found it on Netflix only recently and was blown away by it. I binge watched also Vikings and other historical series afterwords and my recomendation is: do not watch TLK as your first it will corrupt all the other series for you cause you have to compare them with TLK...not fair :-)
That's exactly what happened to me! I binged watched Vikings (all 6 seasons of it!) AFTER I had finished watching TLK's 4 seasons... And I can surely say that it pains me how TLK is such an underrated gem. Vikings is a pseudo-historical soap opera in comparison... Too much wasted potential on so many levels. If TLK had the budget of Vikings, it would be HUGE!

An Alfred character study video would be incredible, especially with regards to his relationship with Uhtred. The whole "We are bonded" thing and how we watched that come about on screen is the best thing about the show for me.
Personally I respect Alfreds dream of a United england. I just hated that as clever as he was he was a hypocrite. They all were God says love your neighbors as you love yourself and be tolerant of each others differences. But the Saxon's kept acting like anyone that wasn't Christian was beneath them. Like they don't sin. Alfred usurped his nephews crown. Sure he was the better king, but his brother wanted him to guide his son to become a great king. Instead alfred, who dispute being smart, was no better then his nephew as far as character and behavior wise.
No one is a bigger fan than I am of this series, I have watched it over and over and I can speak of the dialogue even coz I have remembered it. Love it ❤ Every character has played excellent especially King Alfred , I have even went to his burial although it was unsure but I went to his marked grave .
Brilliant🔥🔥 season 3 was by far my favorite. The scene between Alfred and Uthred was much needed. He had to let Uthred know that he wouldn't be where he is without him. I was so frustrated with their relationship and how Alfred took advantage of him. But to hear him say it at the end with gratitude was everything. Brilliant show🔥
Truly a wonderful show and character. Love the way you depict his growth and how his actions change and yet mirror each other through the seasons. Possibly one of the greatest and most underrated shows of our lives. Destiny is all!
WOW! So beautifully done and so touching. I love this show and every scene you posted in this video provides a glimpse of the frenemy relationship Alfred and Uhtred struggled with but still had love and respect for each other to look out for one another. Most of all I love Father Beococca, he is that stem between these two thorns (Alfred and Uhtred). He loves Uhtred so much that he fights for Uhtred's honor as much as he is allowed, but he does fight. I love that Father Beococca says some of the funniest things in the show. This video shows the struggles of Uhtred and his destiny! Love this video! Brilliant!
I just finished binge-watching The Last Kingdom: Season #4 and it was spectacular👍😃👍 Heartbreaking character deaths, long-awaited romance, long-overdue comeuppances, surprising character turns, epic battles, nerve-racking intrigue and a closing segment in the finale reminiscent of Game of Thrones itself. S#4 of this ever brilliant show has it all & than some🗡😄🛡 Please please please Netflix I'm begging you, give us S#5!!! With only 5 books left to adapt and each season based on 2 books, we need 3 more seasons to properly conclude this epic TV saga with S#5 adapting Books #9 & 10 and S#6 based on Books#11 & 12 and finally S#7 adapting the upcoming 13th & final Saxon Tales book. Come on Netflix make it happen, see this thing all the way to the finish line🤞🙏🤞

I think it would be very interesting to see a similar video about another character from this wonderful show. About count Odda the Elder. In my opinion, he was one of the strongest character in this series. A man who served loyally all his life, first to king Ethelred, and then to his brother, king Alfred. He was a wise adviser, a reliable assistant and a close friend of King Alfred. Odda the Elder has never betrayed his kingdom, he even killed his own son when he found out about his betrayal. Throughout the series, we see that count Odda is a man who primarily cares about the welfare of his kingdom. However, when brothers Sigfrid and Eric ask for a huge ransom for princess Ethelflaed, count Odda realizes that he must make a choice: either betray his friend, King Alfred, or betray his kingdom. Count Odda is well aware that this ransom should not be paid. He tries to convince king Alfred of his decision, but the king sees no other way out how to free his daughter. This is a very interesting situation because you fully understand the motivation of both. King Alfred is ready to do anything to free his daughter, but he does not think at all about the consequences of his actions. Count Odda is well aware of the dire consequences for the whole of Wessex if this ransom will be paid. That is why he tries several times to dissuade the king from paying the ransom. But Alfred does not agree. And then count Odda decides to betray. He goes to his lands, gathers an army there instead of ransom, and moves with this army to Beamfleot. King Alfred realizes that he has to stop count Odda. Therefore, the king with his whole army moves out following Odda. They meet at the walls of Beamfleot, where king Alfred wins one of his most famous victories. A victory that he couldn't even dream of, because he didn't even plan to participate in the battle! And as a result, count Odda, a man who actually did almost the most to defeat the brothers (maybe only Uhtred and his men did more), a man who risked everything he had, but saved his kingdom - and after the victory he was accused of treason and imprisoned. He was supposed to stand trial, but not wanting to be disgraced and humiliated, Odda killed himself. And, what is most sad thing - for all descendants and future generations, count Odda will forever remain a traitor, a man who, in the most difficult and hard moment for Wessex, betrayed his kingdom and defected to the side of the Danes. However, because of the bravery and courage of the warriors of Wessex, the brothers Sigfrid and Eric were defeated in the great battle of Beamfleot. Count Odda was captured, but, unable to bear the shame, committed suicide. In the chronicles of king Alfred count Odda remained just such a person. That's how his descendants will remember him... In my opinion, this is a very strong and sad story.

One of the things making this show soo great is the suberb casting and acting. Alexander Dreymon has the most expresssive face--he speaks volumes with his eyes. The Interaction between him and Alfred is complex, ambivalent--both jockeying for what each wants. Lots of subtlety. Very believable. Thank youf or this video--itis very cool.

This is awesome! I'm here after season 4 and it's really good. The show is amazing yet so underrated unfortunately. Uhtred has suffered much and lost many yet he always followed his heart. That last talk between Alfred and Uhtred was remarkable and maybe one of the most emotional scenes cause there was finally acceptance for both sides. YOU SHOULD WATCH THIS SHOW IT WORTHS IT GUYS

To be honest, it actually made for a great story. I didn’t think they had the balls to kill him, but once they did, the show started to give a Game of Thrones feel.
It made a great arc of trying to get Ragnar from Niflheim to Valhalla. It gave Uthred purpose.

This series has the best set of characters I've seen in years. Some of these characters dont even have to talk much to be loved. Badass dudes like Sihtric really grew to be amazing characters and I love Finan. That dude's sarcasm is on another level. Almost every character is likable and very very strong. Thats what drives me to this series.

Season 3 was the best written season they've done. The way they were able to tie everything together into a complete circle. The story is finished yet we have so much more to go. So I will admit it was very hard watching Alfred die.

@@charlesoto2 I agree that Alfred did treat him badly. But what makes Uhtred special is that he keeps his word. He is a man of Honor. I do believe that if he was able to leave briefly to help her then to come back with Ragnar. He's put in a catch-22 situation. I've often found myself in similar situations. No matter what decision he makes someone is going to be upset and either feel betrayed or be angry. Whether it's at that point or later on in the future. I also believe that if Uhtred had told Ragnar about what happened with the priest and Alfred giving him an ultimatum of either to serve him again or have Ragnar executed he might have had a different opinion on the situation. Especially given that he did not know that Knut was scheming behind his back to have him killed. Something Uhtred would never do.

Uthred is such a tragic and beautiful character. One of the best characters ever written imo.
People tend to ignore this show because they love Vikings and GoT but i think it’s better than both of them, simply because it doesn’t get bad with time, it gets BETTER, also since it’s not as big as GoT and Vikings, they had to focus on other things which is amazing Cast and great WRITING, something unfortunately both Vikings and GoT struggled with. Underrated masterpiece.

watch this show people , it is based on the book series , The Saxon Stories by bernard cornwell , it tries to be accurate in terms of the timeline and is a better show than vikings in my opinion.

I think truly this is one of the best medieval series ever. I like it better than Vikings because it’s not as corny it’s more historical down to Earth in serious. It really shows the embodiment of the Vikings and what they wanted it shows the mindset of the people back then in with they believed. Silver plunder women black magic paranoia and superstition.

Still the best video out there capturing the essence of The Last Kingdom series! I found it on Netflix only recently and was blown away by it. I binge watched also Vikings and other historical series afterwords and my recomendation is: do not watch TLK as your first it will corrupt all the other series for you cause you have to compare them with TLK...not fair :-)
That's exactly what happened to me! I binged watched Vikings (all 6 seasons of it!) AFTER I had finished watching TLK's 4 seasons... And I can surely say that it pains me how TLK is such an underrated gem. Vikings is a pseudo-historical soap opera in comparison... Too much wasted potential on so many levels. If TLK had the budget of Vikings, it would be HUGE!

An Alfred character study video would be incredible, especially with regards to his relationship with Uhtred. The whole "We are bonded" thing and how we watched that come about on screen is the best thing about the show for me.

Personally I respect Alfreds dream of a United england. I just hated that as clever as he was he was a hypocrite. They all were God says love your neighbors as you love yourself and be tolerant of each others differences. But the Saxon's kept acting like anyone that wasn't Christian was beneath them. Like they don't sin. Alfred usurped his nephews crown. Sure he was the better king, but his brother wanted him to guide his son to become a great king. Instead alfred, who dispute being smart, was no better then his nephew as far as character and behavior wise.
Came here instantly after finishing S3. Brilliant season, brilliant edit. I loved that you used Dark World score!

Brilliant🔥🔥 season 3 was by far my favorite. The scene between Alfred and Uthred was much needed. He had to let Uthred know that he wouldn't be where he is without him. I was so frustrated with their relationship and how Alfred took advantage of him. But to hear him say it at the end with gratitude was everything. Brilliant show🔥

WOW! So beautifully done and so touching. I love this show and every scene you posted in this video provides a glimpse of the frenemy relationship Alfred and Uhtred struggled with but still had love and respect for each other to look out for one another. Most of all I love Father Beococca, he is that stem between these two thorns (Alfred and Uhtred). He loves Uhtred so much that he fights for Uhtred's honor as much as he is allowed, but he does fight. I love that Father Beococca says some of the funniest things in the show. This video shows the struggles of Uhtred and his destiny! Love this video! Brilliant!

With only 5 books left to adapt and each season based on 2 books, we need 3 more seasons to properly conclude this epic TV saga with S#5 adapting Books #9 & 10 and S#6 based on Books#11 & 12 and finally S#7 adapting the upcoming 13th & final Saxon Tales book. I think it would be very interesting to see a similar video about another character from this wonderful show. About count Odda the Elder.
In my opinion, he was one of the strongest character in this series. A man who served loyally all his life, first to king Ethelred, and then to his brother, king Alfred. He was a wise adviser, a reliable assistant and a close friend of King Alfred. Odda the Elder has never betrayed his kingdom, he even killed his own son when he found out about his betrayal. Throughout the series, we see that count Odda is a man who primarily cares about the welfare of his kingdom.
However, when brothers Sigfrid and Eric ask for a huge ransom for princess Ethelflaed, count Odda realizes that he must make a choice: either betray his friend, King Alfred, or betray his kingdom.
Count Odda is well aware that this ransom should not be paid. He tries to convince king Alfred of his decision, but the king sees no other way out how to free his daughter.
This is a very interesting situation because you fully understand the motivation of both. King Alfred is ready to do anything to free his daughter, but he does not think at all about the consequences of his actions. Count Odda is well aware of the dire consequences for the whole of Wessex if this ransom will be paid. That is why he tries several times to dissuade the king from paying the ransom. But Alfred does not agree.
And then count Odda decides to betray. He goes to his lands, gathers an army there instead of ransom, and moves with this army to Beamfleot.
King Alfred realizes that he has to stop count Odda. Therefore, the king with his whole army moves out following Odda. They meet at the walls of Beamfleot, where king Alfred wins one of his most famous victories. A victory that he couldn't even dream of, because he didn't even plan to participate in the battle!
And as a result, count Odda, a man who actually did almost the most to defeat the brothers (maybe only Uhtred and his men did more), a man who risked everything he had, but saved his kingdom - and after the victory he was accused of treason and imprisoned. He was supposed to stand trial, but not wanting to be disgraced and humiliated, Odda killed himself.
And, what is most sad thing - for all descendants and future generations, count Odda will forever remain a traitor, a man who, in the most difficult and hard moment for Wessex, betrayed his kingdom and defected to the side of the Danes. However, because of the bravery and courage of the warriors of Wessex, the brothers Sigfrid and Eric were defeated in the great battle of Beamfleot. Count Odda was captured, but, unable to bear the shame, committed suicide.
In the chronicles of king Alfred count Odda remained just such a person. That's how his descendants will remember him...
In my opinion, this is a very strong and sad story.

One of the things making this show soo great is the suberb casting and acting. Alexander Dreymon has the most expresssive face--he speaks volumes with his eyes. The Interaction between him and Alfred is complex, ambivalent--both jockeying for what each wants. Lots of subtlety. Very believable. Thank youf or this video--itis very cool.

This is awesome! I'm here after season 4 and it's really good. The show is amazing yet so underrated unfortunately. Uhtred has suffered much and lost many yet he always followed his heart. That last talk between Alfred and Uhtred was remarkable and maybe one of the most emotional scenes cause there was finally acceptance for both sides. YOU SHOULD WATCH THIS SHOW IT WORTHS IT GUYS
