I haven't ever really needed to make a disk in blender, but this was still so entertaining.

You can do this easier and more realistic with the layer weight fed into the gradient

Just broke out the vinyl the other day and went into flashback mode lol Although had to get the duster to dust off the lint roller to clean the vinyl before play. ;)

Thanks for the tutorial! i tried fooling around with some random nodes to get that shiny iridescent effect, but it didn't come out as i'd have liked. The Node layout was a total mess!
One way to use less geometry, is instead of separating out the Inner/Outer plastic rings. One could use the Gradient texture (Spherical) & constant Color Ramp as a factor for the metal & plastic Shaders.
Duplicate that Color Ramp; switch it to Linear color; make the 2 middle sliders black (or just the one corresponding to the inner plastic ring, perhaps); surround both those sliders with white ones, pushing them in _really_ close (you may need to stretch out the Color Ramp node as far as you can, to get precise). Use this gradation you made, and connect it to a Bump node at about 0.0005 distance, and plug that into each Shader, metal & plastic, to get a subtle indent.
Then to speed things up, you can Texture-Bake the CD, either a Combined bake (which won't allow the iridescent color movement), or just with a Bump image & Roughness image. Then you can plug these images into the Shader, and it will load up a lot faster. Make sure you've UV unwrapped the disc first. (Edit: On the right, where the Bake settings are, use the "From active camera" setting instead of "Above surface," if you want to do a Combined Bake with the iridescent bands showing. The bands may still appear on "Above surface," but now you can swivel the disc around to get a specific angle or look.)
If you want to make multiple CD designs, Bake each, front & back side (use Invert Color node between the Backfacing Geo node & everything else it connects to, to bake the other side). Take all the saved images you made (maybe name them alphabetically), and "Open as Layers" them in Gimp, which is like Photoshop. Move each disc face around within the transparent grey-checkered space, lining them up in order, Left-to-Right & top-to-bottom so its easy to remember which design goes with each disc you made.
Do this with all the Front sides, and Export the image with the "Save color values from transparent pixels" box checked so you have the Alpha channel. Now do the same thing with the Back sides of the discs, in the same order as you did the front sides. You'll need to line each disc face up *exactly* so the UV doesn't look weird. Try opening up the Front-Faces image you exported as a new layer using Open as Layers again, and make it somewhat transparent using the slider on the right so it's easy to see what you're doing. Use it as a template for moving the Back-sided disc faces around. Click the Eye shape on the right to disable the template layer, then Export this image.
Now, back in Blender, use two image textures -- the Front & Back discs -- with the Backfacing Geo node as a factor. Duplicate the disc shape you used with Shift + D, and in the UV editor, select all the faces; scale them down as necessary; and move them over the corresponding space on the image with all the different designs. Do this for each disc, so they all share the same texture. This cuts down on loading time.
If you want to make multiple copies of one design -- say, to make a stack -- use Alt + D for instancing (I saw a YT tutorial either here or on another channel aways back, that was immensely helpful. Told me that unlike Shift + D, the Alt + D creates "ghost" occurrences of the same set of geometry, as though it were in multiple places at once, for more efficient rendering. Don't quite understand how it works, but I've been using it ever since where I can).
Ald + D and then G + Z, sliding the next disc up in the stack. Once it's in place, then use Shift + R as many times as you'd like to make the stack higher. Finally, group all the stack discs in a Collection; select all of them; use Randomize Transform to shift them about on the X & Y axes a bit for a slightly uneven, more realistic look. You can make multiple stacks like this.

iirc, the alpha version of blender adds in a new view transform alternative to Filmic that will support a new type of rendering called Spectral Rendering, which allows you to render on the full color spectrum, which would theoretically allow you to make the effect 100% photo realistic
