Twin NICU mom here! My daughter came home about 3 weeks before my son did. This stage was the hardest part for me, you’re so right about feeling like you’re being torn in so many different directions. It’s beyond tough. I’m not sure if things are different now with Covid protocols or maybe your hospital is just different in general but when I had to bring my daughter home they set up a cot next to my sons bed so I could bring her with me when going to the hospital to see him. It was difficult adding a newborn to the already tough hospital visit schedule BUT it really did make me feel better having them together and not having to leave her at home on top of leaving him in the hospital each day. His names Jude so every time we left the hospital without him I would put on “hey jude” on the drive home and just uncontrollably sob lol it’s so hard feeling like no matter where you are you aren’t there for one of your babies. The only silver lining I felt in hindsight was that it made the transition to being home with twins easier and less daunting. Like baby steps towards the chaos that comes with newborn twins. I wish I had more advice but just know you’re not alone and my heart goes out to you and Eric during this incredibly difficult next stage of the NICU journey

Not a twin mama but a previous NICU nurse. Just know that when you aren't able to be there, we nurses are loving amd caring for those babies like they are our own. To the point I've sobbed in grief and happy tears at the same time when a baby gets to go home. Hang in there mama. You are so strong and you got this.
I’m a nicu nurse and I always give extra hugs and cuddles to my twins when brother or sister goes home before them. We also say sometimes it’s better for parents instead of completing overwhelming them with two babies. Of course you want both babies together, but we take great care of the babies when they still need a little more time ❤️
As a former NICU preemie who was not allowed to go home for MONTHS after my twin, this comment gives me so much comfort. Our family lived 2.5 hours away and could only visit once a week for a few hours. My twin came to visit a couple of times in the 8 months we were separated. Thank you for cuddling the babies.
As a nicu baby, she won’t remember being alone in the hospital room with her cords, something that will always stick is the feeling and smell of her parents and siblings. For her to learn to eat will be quick! Just love her completely when you’re there, and try your best to focus on Wesley and and flynn when you’re home. Love you mama, you got this❤️

Watching this after the babies just turned one, it makes me giggle when they said Wesley liked the skid steer, because Wes LOVES cars. lol I also forgot about how absolutely heartwarming and sweet this video is. Erik is literally made to be a dad. His supportive hand in the hospital, and how he introduced Wes to Flynn. Gosh, it makes me feel all warm and fuzzy. 🥰 Flynn being confused and so interested in Wes. And then knowing how in love he became of both babies when Maisy came home. What a bond these 5 have ❤

I’ve never related to a vlog more than this one. My twins were born at 36.5 and my little boy came home first and my baby girl 10 days later. Leaving my baby girl was the hardest thing to do and that feeling like your leaving her all alone honestly sticks around until she will be home with you. The only comfort was knowing I had the nurses there with her and that she was absolutely where she needed to be. Your doing an amazing job momma xo

One of my NICU twins came home just over a week before the other. I was a single mom and wasn’t able to go visit the one left in the hospital and it broke my heart. I only saw her once that week 😢 It is so tough, but try to remember that you have a great support system and can juggle the time between everyone. You are doing great!!

It's wonderful that Wesley was able to be greeted by BOTH sets of grandparents! When Erik's parents initially came to town I remember you said they weren't going to get to meet the babies, but look now!! At least they got to meet one of them! When Maisy comes home it'll be a perfect reason for them to come back to Cali!
The way you talk about Maisy's personality, she'll probably wake up one day and go "ok, I'm ready to follow the rules". It will be a blink and she'll go from we're not sure to wait what. She seems to be an "in her own time" girl. Hoping and praying that whatever the case may be she's home before Christmas because I know that would be the ultimate gift for you and Erik.
I’m a twin NICU mama, my boys were separated for 2 weeks. I also had a toddler at home. It was HARD, and I cried a LOT on top of recovering from a c-section it felt like the world was caving in around me. Looking back almost 2 years later, I think it really was a blessing in disguise. I got to ease into having two babies at home, especially through the night, big brother got to adjust to one baby before being introduced to the second one, and it was so helpful for the babies to come home on a schedule, which helped me to “get to know” them a little bit better and their different cries and likes/dislikes. We were lucky that we were in a small NICU where there were only 3-4 babies at a time so he was being cared for often but I still was heartbroken that he was in there by himself. I kept saying “how do you decide who to be with? Your baby and your toddler that’s being loved on by your family or the baby in the best, safest place for them to be right now being cared for by skilled doctors and nurses who love their jobs?” I still don’t feel like I have an answer but I do know that it’s just a moment in time. You will be the one that remembers the struggle and the pain to help other new twin moms when they are going through the hardest of it, but your babies will only remember that they are loved by you. You’re an incredible mama and you’re doing a great job. You’ll look back in a year from now and have no idea how you made it as far as you did, but you’ll have done it, even if right now it feels like you’re just trying to stay afloat. Give yourself grace and know that you’re trying your best, all three of your babies will know that ❤️❤️
Maisy is a “do it when I want” type of girl and that’s exactly how she’s gonna do it this time! She’ll surprise you and be home very very soon, I can just feel it. I know it’s difficult but you’ve got this mama ❤️ very soon you’ll have all three of your babies under one roof. sending you so much love

Flynn’s fourth wall break look at the camera was the funniest thing I’ve ever seen. As the big sibling to twins I relate buddy, but I promise they won’t steal all of your spotlight and you’ll be so happy they are there. He’s going to be the best big brother. When my mom had my sisters one of them had issues breathing on her own and had to be in the NICU for a bit to help her lungs get stronger and I know for my parents it was the hardest thing in the world but it made them and the twins stronger for it. Im convinced that being away from her sister made her work extra hard to get back together as fast as possible. They always said wombmates to roommates and even though one of my sisters is no longer with us that hold true to this day. Maisy Jo will be home so soon and knowing how littlest sisters are, whipping her big brothers into shape and wrapping them both around her tiny finger in no time. You and Erik are incredible, strong, loving, and brilliant parents who will look back on this time and find the silver linings and lessons to be grateful for, but until then. Just know that all the tears and the hurt and the hardship is temporary and you are doing so incredibly well and all three of your babies are lucky they get to have you both to raise them.

My Twins came home 2 weeks apart. Having one at home and one at the Nicu is heartbreaking. By far the hardest thing ever. I have no idea who ive heard say this but it's for parents. "The days feel like years and the years feel like days". I think every mom would agree. What you and Eric are doing is exactly what my husband and i did. Switched back and forth, barely saw eachother. But we knew, like you said, its temporary. Hard as heck but temporary. Also agreeing with Megan, bringing one home at a time does help you ease into having two newborns at home. Obviously having them both home would be the best scenario but being a twin Nicu mom is a whole different experience. Youll be stronger for it. I promise. Also congrats on all your breast milk! You go Mamma!❤ i had a hard time producing enough breast milk for two babies. So i see your freezer and it makes me happy. Hehe 😁

Yay! So happy for you that Wesley finally graduated and came home! He is so precious and sweet. I'm a NICU mom with twins, and they came home a week apart. It seemed like it took forever for them to learn to eat properly, and it was hard to watch other babies go home and try to be patient and stay focused on helping our boys. They were in the hospital for 6 1/2 and 7 1/2 weeks; one had a little more trouble eating because of reflux, and he also came home on oxygen and with a pulse oximeter (that would beep randomly during the night when nothing was wrong; very annoying). But it was definitely heartbreaking to have to leave one behind, even though we knew he was in the best hands. It was a weird limbo stage, like we were trying to move forward and stay in the same place at the same time; and when we were at home, it was almost like I was missing an arm or something. And I wasn't even as attached as you yet because I was a first time mom and still kind of in shock adjusting to the idea of going from 0 kids to 2 in the space of 5 minutes. The whole thing was just surreal. That time is kind of just a blur of going back and forth to the hospital twice a day (my mom would drive down to take me in the morning, and then husband and I would go together after he got off work), but I think we generally just took turns going in (our hospital didn't allow us to bring the released baby in with us). Other than that, all I could really do was just stay busy and focused on what I could control (i.e. when at home, focus on that baby and give him my best effort; when at the hospital, focus on that baby and do as much as I could for him in that time), pray for the other one that he would heal and grow and come home soon, and hold onto my faith to leave the rest in the Lord's hands and trust that He would take care of us all. Having caring neighbors and family nearby really helped too. Sending you all the love and prayers. You can do this!
Hey, my little sisters were nicu twins and what my parents did when one got home earlier than the other one, is just alternating. My dad stayed at the hospital and my mom went home with my other sister and they were just alternating all the time. Yes they didn't see each other that much, but it was really important for them to not leave them alone. You got this Colleen, time will fly by, and you'll be so happy to have them both home. That's what me and husband did when our daughter was in NICU we alternated I took the days and he took the nights we never left her we had 2 other daughters also but my parents kept them while we stayed with the her I think my husband had the easier shift because he would go and ly down in the waiting room area for parents and the nurses would let him sleep through feedings but I understood because he still had to work during the day but we just wanted to be there in case something happened.

Seeing you and Eric introducing Wesley to Flynn was the cutest, most beautiful, most wholesome thing I’ve ever seen. Hearing you two talk to him and explain that he’s a big brother made me want to cry. I’m gonna send positive vibes to Maisy and pray that she comes home soon. Your feelings are %100 valid. I’m not a parent but I can see that you’re struggling. But I’m my opinion, having the feelings shows that your a good mom and that you love your babies very much.

Had triplets that came home at three different times. One at 6 days. One at 3 weeks and 1 a day short of a month. Although I know how super blessed I was that they came home relatively fast and had a pretty uncomplicated stay. It's still hard. It still feels like forever in the moment. I feel like everyone told me how it was so nice that I was able to ease into things with bringing them home separately,but honestly that was the last thing I wanted to hear. All I wanted was to be home with all my babies at once, no matter how difficult it would or wouldn't be. I was blessed to be able to bring my babies back with me everyday to visit the one/ones still in the hospital. It's hard and people ask or comment "I don't know how you do it" or "how do you do it" but honestly...you just do it. Somehow it all works out, you figure it out. I pray you are able to enjoy the time with Wesley home but also find peace in knowing you are doing your best for all your little ones. I could reassure you that youe ladybug will be home soon enough, But you know this, I'm sure everyone has said it, has reminded you she is in great hands. You know everything will be OK, but sometimes it just stinks. It's not what you want, and you are aloud to cry and your aloud to be sad, and your aloud to be happy all at the same time!
Never apologize for crying. It's such an important thing to do, and it shows how much you love and care. ❤ You are doing amazing, and doing everything right, because you're doing your absolute best.
Seeing Wesley with Flynn was the most magical moment, I know colleen was sad for so long that Flynn might not even have siblings because of how bad her pregnancies are… and yet here he is with his baby brother, and soon will meet his baby sister. This is a wonderful moment, thank you for sharing your journey so openly. Praying for Maisy to come home soon, I’m So happy you have Wesley home.
Watching your parent’s hold Wesley really made me emotional. It’s so amazing that he’s finally home & that now he gets all the love & cuddles in the world….
The most beautiful thing I've ever seen is Colleen and Erik introducing Flynn to his baby brother and telling him about the "Really big job" he has ahead of him. I was so overcome with emotion. I absolutely love that you shared that moment with all of us. Truly touching and made me cry happy tears.
My mom is a twin NICU mom! My sister came home 11 weeks before I did! She said she got through it by designating times for both of us. Making sure she spent equal time with both of us whether it be at home or at the hospital. Also similar to what you did with the babies smelling you, it might be nice for maisy to smell Wesley. When my sister left me in the NICU I guess I really liked her blanket instead of mine because it smelled like her!
I made this suggestion as well! My twin went home from the NICU 8 months before me and only could visit a couple of times. I thought Maisy being able to smell Wesley might bring her comfort, too.
I got so happy and then sad for you when I read the title-- I know you'll be going through a lot with Maisey still in the hospital, but it's so exciting Wesley gets to come home!! Stay strong mama, it won't be long until your big family is all together ❤️
I’m SO happy for Wesley!! Such sweetness from Flynn!! My ovaries! Girl you’re so strong, and Maisy is too! She’s going to get stronger and stronger and come home, and at some point it’ll be a distant memory. She’ll see this later in life and see how very much she’s loved at every moment.
I have a gut feeling that they will both be home before Christmas. My birthday is December 23rd, so maybe Maisy will decide to come home then haha But lets hope it will be sooner than that. What a kind and gentle moment of attunement when you noticed how Wesley might be feeling overwhelmed from being held more than he is used to at the hospital and you meeting his need by placing him in his bassinet. The world will be a better place the more we love others in this capacity and love ourselves the same way. NICU mom here! I just gave birth to twin girls this past September at 32 weeks with an emergency C section (same as you) and they were both in the NICU for about 4 weeks! My oh my it was so so so hard, my babies were going to come home at different times but their dad refused to separate them, and surprisingly the next day Twin B shocked everyone and caught up with her sister on her feedings. It’s amazing having both of them home, stay strong mama, it will pass.
When you held Wesley without any tubes I cried. I remember seeing you have to move your arms around the chords to hold him, and how much more fragile he was before. I’m so excited for you guys and I’m so happy both babies have come so far!
My twins were separated as well, one was home and one was in the hospital. It’s the hardest thing, you just have to go through it, just know they are getting the best care. Know that while you can’t be there to take care of them someone else is and they are going to come home, grow big and all this NICU stuff will be behind you! Twin NICU mom. I have both looked forward to and dreaded this day for you while watching your videos. The day my first twin came home is still to this day, the most conflicted I have ever felt. You just want to be there soaking up all of those first at home moments with them while part of your heart is miles away. I don’t have any advice for what makes it better, because you’re already doing everything you can, it is just the hardest part with them in different places. But you’re HALFWAY DONE with NICU life! You’re so close, Maisy is so close, it’s like you don’t want to wish time away but in the same hand just want to fast forward to the day she’s home too. Just allow yourself to feel all of the feelings, let yourself be okay with the fact that it’s conflicting and you’re allowed to be ecstatic and heartbroken at the same time. And let’s be real, Wesley being the chill dude he is was just like “dude I’m gonna need some time to adjust to home myself before my wild sister comes home, let’s get out of here!” 😂
I don’t normally cry watching Colleen’s videos, but this one… My goodness girl couldn’t help but cry. So so SO happy to see the brothers meet. Still waiting for that family photo with all of you in it though!
Our twins came home at different times. What we ended up doing is one of us went to the NICU to visit the one still in the NICU and the other stayed home with the one who was home (we would switch the next day). The one who went took lots of pictures. It was so hard. The one left behind it was so funny how it just clicked one day (and a lot quicker than we had expected). Before we knew it they were telling us she was coming home (it was about a week or so difference)

I remember when we brought our NICU baby home, and the first night he cried nonstop until we figured out it was too quiet and dark for him in our bedroom. He was used to the lights and sounds of the hospital. We kept a light on next to his bassinet and used a sound machine. It helped!

Former nicu patient here!! My triplet siblings went home months before I did and although I don’t remember it, it does not affect me or our relationship in the slightest. We have always been super close and will be for the rest of our lives. I know it was super tough for our parents having 2/3 babies at home and 1 at hospital for almost a year. My gosh the strength nicu parents have is unmatched. Sending love and hope for the future. Being a multiple is a bond like no other and nothing will ever change that for your twinnies Colleen 💛

Twin NICU mom here! My daughter came home about 3 weeks before my son did. This stage was the hardest part for me, you’re so right about feeling like you’re being torn in so many different directions. It’s beyond tough. I’m not sure if things are different now with Covid protocols or maybe your hospital is just different in general but when I had to bring my daughter home they set up a cot next to my sons bed so I could bring her with me when going to the hospital to see him. It was difficult adding a newborn to the already tough hospital visit schedule BUT it really did make me feel better having them together and not having to leave her at home on top of leaving him in the hospital each day. His names Jude so every time we left the hospital without him I would put on “hey jude” on the drive home and just uncontrollably sob lol it’s so hard feeling like no matter where you are you aren’t there for one of your babies. The only silver lining I felt in hindsight was that it made the transition to being home with twins easier and less daunting. Like baby steps towards the chaos that comes with newborn twins. I wish I had more advice but just know you’re not alone and my heart goes out to you and Eric during this incredibly difficult next stage of the NICU journey

I’m a nicu nurse and I always give extra hugs and cuddles to my twins when brother or sister goes home before them. We also say sometimes it’s better for parents instead of completing overwhelming them with two babies. Of course you want both babies together, but we take great care of the babies when they still need a little more time ❤️

As a former NICU preemie who was not allowed to go home for MONTHS after my twin, this comment gives me so much comfort. Our family lived 2.5 hours away and could only visit once a week for a few hours. My twin came to visit a couple of times in the 8 months we were separated. Thank you for cuddling the babies.

As a nicu baby, she won’t remember being alone in the hospital room with her cords, something that will always stick is the feeling and smell of her parents and siblings. For her to learn to eat will be quick! Just love her completely when you’re there, and try your best to focus on Wesley and and flynn when you’re home. Love you mama, you got this❤️

Watching this after the babies just turned one, it makes me giggle when they said Wesley liked the skid steer, because Wes LOVES cars. lol I also forgot about how absolutely heartwarming and sweet this video is. Erik is literally made to be a dad. His supportive hand in the hospital, and how he introduced Wes to Flynn. I’ve never related to a vlog more than this one. My twins were born at 36.5 and my little boy came home first and my baby girl 10 days later. Leaving my baby girl was the hardest thing to do and that feeling like your leaving her all alone honestly sticks around until she will be home with you. The only comfort was knowing I had the nurses there with her and that she was absolutely where she needed to be. Your doing an amazing job momma xo

It's wonderful that Wesley was able to be greeted by BOTH sets of grandparents! When Erik's parents initially came to town I remember you said they weren't going to get to meet the babies, but look now!! At least they got to meet one of them! When Maisy comes home it'll be a perfect reason for them to come back to Cali!
The way you talk about Maisy's personality, she'll probably wake up one day and go "ok, I'm ready to follow the rules". It will be a blink and she'll go from we're not sure to wait what. She seems to be an "in her own time" girl. Hoping and praying that whatever the case may be she's home before Christmas because I know that would be the ultimate gift for you and Erik.

I’m a twin NICU mama, my boys were separated for 2 weeks. I also had a toddler at home. It was HARD, and I cried a LOT on top of recovering from a c-section it felt like the world was caving in around me. Looking back almost 2 years later, I think it really was a blessing in disguise. I got to ease into having two babies at home, especially through the night, big brother got to adjust to one baby before being introduced to the second one, and it was so helpful for the babies to come home on a schedule, which helped me to “get to know” them a little bit better and their different cries and likes/dislikes. We were lucky that we were in a small NICU where there were only 3-4 babies at a time so he was being cared for often but I still was heartbroken that he was in there by himself. I kept saying “how do you decide who to be with? Your baby and your toddler that’s being loved on by your family or the baby in the best, safest place for them to be right now being cared for by skilled doctors and nurses who love their jobs?” I still don’t feel like I have an answer but I do know that it’s just a moment in time. You will be the one that remembers the struggle and the pain to help other new twin moms when they are going through the hardest of it, but your babies will only remember that they are loved by you. You’re an incredible mama and you’re doing a great job. You’ll look back in a year from now and have no idea how you made it as far as you did, but you’ll have done it, even if right now it feels like you’re just trying to stay afloat. Give yourself grace and know that you’re trying your best, all three of your babies will know that ❤️❤️

Flynn’s fourth wall break look at the camera was the funniest thing I’ve ever seen. As the big sibling to twins I relate buddy, but I promise they won’t steal all of your spotlight and you’ll be so happy they are there. He’s going to be the best big brother.
When my mom had my sisters one of them had issues breathing on her own and had to be in the NICU for a bit to help her lungs get stronger and I know for my parents it was the hardest thing in the world but it made them and the twins stronger for it. Im convinced that being away from her sister made her work extra hard to get back together as fast as possible. They always said wombmates to roommates and even though one of my sisters is no longer with us that hold true to this day.
Maisy Jo will be home so soon and knowing how littlest sisters are, whipping her big brothers into shape and wrapping them both around her tiny finger in no time. You and Erik are incredible, strong, loving, and brilliant parents who will look back on this time and find the silver linings and lessons to be grateful for, but until then. Just know that all the tears and the hurt and the hardship is temporary and you are doing so incredibly well and all three of your babies are lucky they get to have you both to raise them.

My Twins came home 2 weeks apart. Having one at home and one at the Nicu is heartbreaking. By far the hardest thing ever. I have no idea who ive heard say this but it's for parents. "The days feel like years and the years feel like days". I think every mom would agree. What you and Eric are doing is exactly what my husband and i did. Switched back and forth, barely saw eachother. But we knew, like you said, its temporary. Hard as heck but temporary. Also agreeing with Megan, bringing one home at a time does help you ease into having two newborns at home. Obviously having them both home would be the best scenario but being a twin Nicu mom is a whole different experience. Youll be stronger for it. I promise. Also congrats on all your breast milk! You go Mamma!❤ i had a hard time producing enough breast milk for two babies. So i see your freezer and it makes me happy. Hehe 😁

Yay! So happy for you that Wesley finally graduated and came home! He is so precious and sweet. I'm a NICU mom with twins, and they came home a week apart. It seemed like it took forever for them to learn to eat properly, and it was hard to watch other babies go home and try to be patient and stay focused on helping our boys. They were in the hospital for 6 1/2 and 7 1/2 weeks; one had a little more trouble eating because of reflux, and he also came home on oxygen and with a pulse oximeter (that would beep randomly during the night when nothing was wrong; very annoying). But it was definitely heartbreaking to have to leave one behind, even though we knew he was in the best hands. It was a weird limbo stage, like we were trying to move forward and stay in the same place at the same time; and when we were at home, it was almost like I was missing an arm or something. And I wasn't even as attached as you yet because I was a first time mom and still kind of in shock adjusting to the idea of going from 0 kids to 2 in the space of 5 minutes. The whole thing was just surreal. That time is kind of just a blur of going back and forth to the hospital twice a day (my mom would drive down to take me in the morning, and then husband and I would go together after he got off work), but I think we generally just took turns going in (our hospital didn't allow us to bring the released baby in with us). Other than that, all I could really do was just stay busy and focused on what I could control (i.e. when at home, focus on that baby and give him my best effort; when at the hospital, focus on that baby and do as much as I could for him in that time), pray for the other one that he would heal and grow and come home soon, and hold onto my faith to leave the rest in the Lord's hands and trust that He would take care of us all. Having caring neighbors and family nearby really helped too. Sending you all the love and prayers. You can do this!

Hey, my little sisters were nicu twins and what my parents did when one got home earlier than the other one, is just alternating. My dad stayed at the hospital and my mom went home with my other sister and they were just alternating all the time. Yes they didn't see each other that much, but it was really important for them to not leave them alone. You got this Colleen, time will fly by, and you'll be so happy to have them both home. That's what me and husband did when our daughter was in NICU we alternated I took the days and he took the nights we never left her we had 2 other daughters also but my parents kept them while we stayed with the her I think my husband had the easier shift because he would go and ly down in the waiting room area for parents and the nurses would let him sleep through feedings but I understood because he still had to work during the day but we just wanted to be there in case something happened.
Flynn’s utter disbelief that he is responsible for teaching him about trucks and numbers and colors made me laugh soooooo hard 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

Had triplets that came home at three different times. One at 6 days. One at 3 weeks and 1 a day short of a month. Although I know how super blessed I was that they came home relatively fast and had a pretty uncomplicated stay. It's still hard. It still feels like forever in the moment. I feel like everyone told me how it was so nice that I was able to ease into things with bringing them home separately,but honestly that was the last thing I wanted to hear. All I wanted was to be home with all my babies at once, no matter how difficult it would or wouldn't be. I was blessed to be able to bring my babies back with me everyday to visit the one/ones still in the hospital. It's hard and people ask or comment "I don't know how you do it" or "how do you do it" but honestly...you just do it. Somehow it all works out, you figure it out. I pray you are able to enjoy the time with Wesley home but also find peace in knowing you are doing your best for all your little ones. I could reassure you that youe ladybug will be home soon enough, But you know this, I'm sure everyone has said it, has reminded you she is in great hands. You know everything will be OK, but sometimes it just stinks. It's not what you want, and you are aloud to cry and your aloud to be sad, and your aloud to be happy all at the same time!

The most beautiful thing I've ever seen is Colleen and Erik introducing Flynn to his baby brother and telling him about the "Really big job" he has ahead of him. I was so overcome with emotion. I absolutely love that you shared that moment with all of us. Truly touching and made me cry happy tears.
My mom is a twin NICU mom! My sister came home 11 weeks before I did! She said she got through it by designating times for both of us. Making sure she spent equal time with both of us whether it be at home or at the hospital. Also similar to what you did with the babies smelling you, it might be nice for maisy to smell Wesley. When my sister left me in the NICU I guess I really liked her blanket instead of mine because it smelled like her!
I made this suggestion as well! My twin went home from the NICU 8 months before me and only could visit a couple of times. I thought Maisy being able to smell Wesley might bring her comfort, too.

Girl you’re so strong, and Maisy is too! She’s going to get stronger and stronger and come home, and at some point it’ll be a distant memory. She’ll see this later in life and see how very much she’s loved at every moment.
I have a gut feeling that they will both be home before Christmas. My birthday is December 23rd, so maybe Maisy will decide to come home then haha But lets hope it will be sooner than that. What a kind and gentle moment of attunement when you noticed how Wesley might be feeling overwhelmed from being held more than he is used to at the hospital and you meeting his need by placing him in his bassinet. The world will be a better place the more we love others in this capacity and love ourselves the same way. NICU mom here! I just gave birth to twin girls this past September at 32 weeks with an emergency C section (same as you) and they were both in the NICU for about 4 weeks! My oh my it was so so so hard, my babies were going to come home at different times but their dad refused to separate them, and surprisingly the next day Twin B shocked everyone and caught up with her sister on her feedings. It’s amazing having both of them home, stay strong mama, it will pass.

When you held Wesley without any tubes I cried. I remember seeing you have to move your arms around the chords to hold him, and how much more fragile he was before. I’m so excited for you guys and I’m so happy both babies have come so far!
My twins were separated as well, one was home and one was in the hospital. It’s the hardest thing, you just have to go through it, just know they are getting the best care. Know that while you can’t be there to take care of them someone else is and they are going to come home, grow big and all this NICU stuff will be behind you! Stay strong and cry all you want, you’re a mama and need to go through everything!!!

Twin NICU mom. I have both looked forward to and dreaded this day for you while watching your videos. The day my first twin came home is still to this day, the most conflicted I have ever felt. You just want to be there soaking up all of those first at home moments with them while part of your heart is miles away. I don’t have any advice for what makes it better, because you’re already doing everything you can, it is just the hardest part with them in different places. But you’re HALFWAY DONE with NICU life! You’re so close, Maisy is so close, it’s like you don’t want to wish time away but in the same hand just want to fast forward to the day she’s home too. Just allow yourself to feel all of the feelings, let yourself be okay with the fact that it’s conflicting and you’re allowed to be ecstatic and heartbroken at the same time. And let’s be real, Wesley being the chill dude he is was just like “dude I’m gonna need some time to adjust to home myself before my wild sister comes home, let’s get out of here!” 😂

Our twins came home at different times. What we ended up doing is one of us went to the NICU to visit the one still in the NICU and the other stayed home with the one who was home (we would switch the next day). The one who went took lots of pictures. It was so hard. The one left behind it was so funny how it just clicked one day (and a lot quicker than we had expected). Before we knew it they were telling us she was coming home (it was about a week or so difference)

I remember when we brought our NICU baby home, and the first night he cried nonstop until we figured out it was too quiet and dark for him in our bedroom. He was used to the lights and sounds of the hospital. We kept a light on next to his bassinet and used a sound machine. It helped!

Former nicu patient here!! My triplet siblings went home months before I did and although I don’t remember it, it does not affect me or our relationship in the slightest. We have always been super close and will be for the rest of our lives. I know it was super tough for our parents having 2/3 babies at home and 1 at hospital for almost a year. My gosh the strength nicu parents have is unmatched. Sending love and hope for the future. Being a multiple is a bond like no other and nothing will ever change that for your twinnies Colleen 💛
