I can’t seem to undo them as there on their pretty tight. Just wondering if I’m doing something wrong or if there’s a better way to getting them undone.
Great video, already putting this in my cart and buying but did you ever make a video on how to install the back up camera? Or is there instructions in the kit on how to wire it to the back ?
It's just a universal backup camera. Pull power off of the reverse lights at the back and send it over the trigger line up to the stereo. In the stereo harness is a reverse camera trigger that will make the screen change.
Got mine installed and loving it! I am having an issue with the backup camera you listed, when I put the car in reverse, it switches to the camera screen but it's black. I played with the camera settings but no joy. Possibly a bad camera? The car is a manual shift, maybe this is slightly different?
The camera gets power from the reverse lights. So you have to connect the included camera power wire to the positive and negative in the back at the reverse lights. If that is correct than it's either a bad video wire or a bad camera.
@@JackofAllMasterofNone I have a question on the reverse lights, which one do I connect the wires? I see 2 one having a green, black and blue wire and there’s another in the back with the red and black wire on the trunk lid?
I was trying to hook up my 2012 Honda civic to a new head unit and I wasn’t getting any audio but I also didn’t have a plug in for audio unit connector E. Not sure if you could give me any advise?
Hey. Thanks a bunch for making the video, it helped me a ton with the installation. Everything works on mine except the sound. The aux connected together didn't do the trick. Not sure what else I can do
It looks like you didnt disconnect the car battery? Nothing to be worried blowing a fuse? Just curious coz I came across someone saying that they blew a fuse. Thanks for the great video
Just a follow-up question, please. The dashboard bezel you used to install the JY-HQ142N8G-B, was that a separate/additional purchase? Or is it included when you purchase a JY-HQ142N8G-B for a 2012 Honda Civic?
Quick question, I see you're still able to switch screens on the i-MID but it appears that the fuel economy stats and odometer are blank? Does the information appear once you've started the car fully rather than just in accessory mode? Also, are you still able to access the menu to reset the maintenance reminders? Those are like the 2 things stopping me from pulling the trigger on an upgrade haha.
I love the display that the 2012 android has, will the 2014-15 have the same display or have the option to change the display to what you currently have
Another 2 question, please. (#1) How good is GPS reception with the antenna sandwiched between dashboard plastic and instrument cluster? Or more specifically, does your Nav screen freeze? I'm about to install a JY-HZ142N4 in a similar Civic. Haven't started yet because JOYING forgot the front facing camera. It's still in-transit. Meantime, the JOYING Techi I'm dealing with is insistent I place the GPS/4G antennas on the dashboard top surface. It's ugly so instead, I'm thinking of the rear shelf. And just add RG174 extensions to reach the head unit. (#2) Can you repeat your logic about not enabling your unit's 4G capability in favor of just using your cellphone as Hotspot? I'd like to get more details? Because moving the antennas to the rear shelf will entail a lot of "digging"... Thank you.
The GPS internet can be mounted under the dash. There are plenty of good spaces in the Civic since it has a large plastic dash. Just to make sure there is no metal between the GPS antenna and the sky and the further forward towards the windshield you can get it the better
This is amazing but I own a 2013 Civic Si. The center trim piece has a carbon fiber weave to it from the factory and I was wondering if they offer a trim piece to match the Si's interior?
Jack, Thanks for uploading this detailed video for this unit. I just recently picked up a '12 civic with a 5-speed manual transmission. This civic of mine still has the factory stereo installed in it. I do have a question that you did address, but I have a question for security reasons. If you do have your car go in for any kind of service in a shop and you do not want prying eyes going through your stereo settings or anything you don't want access to, is there a code you can use to lock out anyone? Not just your email idea, but the whole stereo rendered useless save for you? I do have an iphone and would want the stereo set up on the configuration. Thank you for this video upload. j. l.
@JackofAllMasterofNone Does this head unit come with all required wiring, wiring harness, etc and the frame you used in this video? I have the exact 2012 Honda Civic.
Hello again, question on the backup camera. Do you just have to connect the RCA video connection and not the trigger wire? I noticed that you had the trigger wire taped off so I'm guessing this unit turns on when video is present and doesn't depend on a trigger wire? (I hope I'm describing this correctly, haven't installed a backup camera yet)
This unit turns on the camera because of the canbus network sending the signal to the radio that it is in reverse, so you do not need the trigger wire.
Yes. All works like a champ. Installed the camera above the plate, wired the power to the backup lights, ran the wire to the unit and it works great. Been very happy with the unit. It works well. The screen has gone dark on me twice but the system still worked. (Could hear things fine) but it returned to normal the next day. Might have gotten too hot it, it was in the middle of summer when the car was outside all day while I was at work.
My car did not have a factory backup camera and an aftermarket one was added. If you have a factory one it can be made to feed into the head unit but it requires tapping into the feed going into the imid display and is more complicated. By default it will just stay using the imid.
Thanks for the awesome video! I was wondering if there was any sort of way to track fuel economy. My '15 Civic EX has the factory head unit and my favorite feature is that it calculates the trip's fuel economy and I was wondering if this could also do that. Thanks again :)!
Because it's not some "junk no name Chinese Android unit" You obviously don't have a clue about Joying stereos. You can find junk all day on Amazon and eBay with low specs that run Android, but that's not this unit... I would put this up against any Kenwood, Pioneer, JVC, etc. unit any day.
The phone buttons don't work because they are connected directly to the imid screen, not the stereo. There may be a way to make them work, but I haven't figured it out yet. It's a problem on the Honda. No aftermarket stereo can use those phone buttons. The volume and left right, etc. work fine though. The regular controls are through the canbus network but the phone controls are analog and wired to the imid.
Just used internal mic. Dont use the phone so cant comment honestly. Id say from past experience its decent but you have to speak loudly and clearly for others to hear you properly.
Do you have any recommendations for a slightly cheaper option? I just got my 2012 Civic LX with the base stereo and as a college student I don't have a ton of money to throw around. Do you recommend waiting and saving up for a more expensive stereo setup, or will a cheaper option work fine? And if so, what are some of the cheaper options you would reccomend?
Unfortunately the cheaper Android based stereos are pretty crappy. You could always just use a dash kit with harness adapter and put in a universal type double din stereo.
Great video, I'm considering installing one into my '12 Civic Si. One question though, you mention late in the video when you're demonstrating the Android Auto and Apple Carplay, you connect them wired and you mention that it "doesn't automatically connect via bluetooth, you have to do that manually via the bluetooth app". Does that mean that if you want to use Apple Carplay wirelessly that you have to re-pair your phone each time you get in the car? Or did you mean you still have to manually pair the phone as part of the initial setup even though you connected wired?
Great, thanks for the response. And in case you know, will this unit work with the steering wheel phone controls and factory subwoofer in the Civic Si?
In case anyone is wondering, I found this on the eBay page for this item: "Purchase Notice:
* Acceptable for vehicles with Left Wheel only. * Please send us a dashboard picture of your car after you place an order. Or inform us whether your car has Premium Sound System or not. * If you don't leave us a note, we will include the default harness for base model (the one without big screen and without Premium Sound System)." So it seems they have a different harness for the models with the premium sound system or the Navigation. I've ordered the unit and requested the Premium harness, will update with my findings when I get it installed.
This is some sort of issue that has just come up. My guess is it's something to do with the can bus settings or the CAN bus adapter box that joting is now shipping. I would reach out to them for a solution
Just wondering, why would you use that rear camera instead of the Joying camera that they advertise is better optimezed and compatible with the stereo?
The HD camera does not work when the head unit is in a full boot such as when the car has been off for a long time. The analog camera works great and immediately comes on when shifted in reverse, even before the head unit boots up
Would you happen to know a place where I can buy the harness for the accessories? My radio didn’t come with it and I’d love to get steering wheel control and illumination control but I can’t seem to find the right one. Thank you!
Which socket/connector communicates the source of audio (and channel or song name) from the device to the little iMID display ? I installed Joying head unit yesterday but the iMID screen says “Audio off”! But my civic is 2015 hybrid with the factory DA screen so the harness could be slightly different. I might have not connected the said socket/connector properly too
Also, the device did not click in place (it has the bracket with the climate controls and vent). One side is coming out and it’s annoying! Should I buy new clips and replace the old ones?
Just bought this today. Looking forward to the install!! Great instal vid too. Is there anything that needs to be connected before installing? The canbus or is it just plug and play?
The usb input where you made a hole at 11:35 mark…did that usb cable come with radio or you bought separate? If bought separate can you link me please.
Can I connect to it using my phone via bluetooth to play spotify? Or should I download spotify onto the radio using the in-built app store? Would it be able to get a connection using my cell data or would I be limited to offline play? Any clarification on using spotify would be much appreciated!
How's the sound? I tried one of these Android head units in an older civic and the sound was awful. I sent it back and got a double-din Pioneer head unit which sounded way better
I have a little question I am extremely interested in buying this product but unfortunately I live in Canada. My question is will the delivery be made to us in Canada. I really want this product it is a good price and a good quantity but the real problem is that I am in Canada here thank you.
I just installed mine, everything works and sounds great except my music will cut out for a slip second randomly, typically a bunch of times during a song. How do I fix this? Is this a wiring error I made?
Definitely not normal. Im sorry but I have no idea why it would be doing that. I would just check to make sure all connections are reseated and everything is tight. Could be a defective head unit.
It's plug and play. It's set to CRV because that is the canbus settings that works correctly with this car. As long as you connected all of the harness correctly and also double check that the looped wiring coming out of the back of the head unit is plugged into the canbus wire.
JY-HQ142N8G-B It's in the title. There is no name just model number. Manufacturer is Joying. It's only sold on eBay or their website. Not Amazon currently
Yes, but you will need the 2015 specific model. According to Joying it should work with lanewatch camera but I would reach out to them directly to verify that
Hello Jack! That radio is awesome. I have a question, do you know if that radio supports the USB port inside the center console? My civic is an exl and has a usb port there
I need help. I have the exact same car. I bought a Hikity aftermarket stereo on Amazon. I installed it and the power would not turn on. I placed the factory stereo back in to test and it would not power on. I lost power to my IMID, cigarette lighter port and usb in my console as well. A few days later I found that I had blown a fuse under my hood. I replaced it and the IMID has returned to its normal function, the usb in my console also works but the cigarette lighter still has no power, and the factory unit has power but will not work at all. I can’t find any other blown fuses and I’m dreading having to try and take it to someone.
How did you get it to work with imid? Our imid clock was staying on constantly draining the battery, so we disconnected the canbus now the imid and steering controls are dead. How do we fix this?
@hussainahmed6638 I didn't install the Joying HU. Yet. I still have A sony AX-7000 which only has 1 input which i use for rear cam. I haven't made the leap because I'd have to also buy an amp to at least match the ax7000 performance

@@JackofAllMasterofNone Cool...thanks. If I end up installing the unit I'll update here with results. Appreciate the video and quick replies!
In case anyone is wondering, I found this on the eBay page for this item:
"Purchase Notice:
* Acceptable for vehicles with Left Wheel only.
* Please send us a dashboard picture of your car after you place an order. Or inform us whether your car has Premium Sound System or not.
* If you don't leave us a note, we will include the default harness for base model (the one without big screen and without Premium Sound System)."
So it seems they have a different harness for the models with the premium sound system or the Navigation. I've ordered the unit and requested the Premium harness, will update with my findings when I get it installed.
Did you use the Canbus harness to connect your aftermarket radio to keep and wreckonize your cars original dashboard information?
It's all in the video. Yes
Great video but it keeps my factory radio screen on any suggestions on how to fix
This is some sort of issue that has just come up. My guess is it's something to do with the can bus settings or the CAN bus adapter box that joting is now shipping. I would reach out to them for a solution
I have the same car but an si. I like this radio but to expensive.. any cheaper ones I could get?
I don't recommend the cheaper ones. You get what you pay for in this case.
Thank you!
Would have to reach out to Joying directly. www.joyingauto.com/
Does the usb port inside the center armrest still work?
I'm sure you can route one of the USB extensions to that hole. That's what I didn with another factory stereo install
Have the same question… Can you help us? Thanks.
In factory settings, why'd you leave it at CRV if it's a Civic?
They are the same.
I love my '14 civic
Which socket/connector communicates the source of audio (and channel or song name) from the device to the little iMID display ? I installed Joying head unit yesterday but the iMID screen says “Audio off”! But my civic is 2015 hybrid with the factory DA screen so the harness could be slightly different. I might have not connected the said socket/connector properly too
Also, the device did not click in place (it has the bracket with the climate controls and vent). One side is coming out and it’s annoying! Should I buy new clips and replace the old ones?
This sounds like a canbus issue. All of that info is transmitted via canbus data network.
can you still get the odometer and gas mileage screen on the little screen section on the dashboard?
Yes
Just bought this today. Looking forward to the install!! Great instal vid too. Is there anything that needs to be connected before installing? The canbus or is it just plug and play?
Plug and play
@@JackofAllMasterofNone Awesome! Thank you🤘🏻
@@Nikotine556how was your experience so far? I have a 12 civic si, and im wondering if the radio for that price is worth it?
The usb input where you made a hole at 11:35 mark…did that usb cable come with radio or you bought separate? If bought separate can you link me please.
This is the USB port I used amzn.to/3XTv45u
Can I connect to it using my phone via bluetooth to play spotify? Or should I download spotify onto the radio using the in-built app store? Would it be able to get a connection using my cell data or would I be limited to offline play? Any clarification on using spotify would be much appreciated!
Can play over Bluetooth or what I would recommend is to connect your phone via USB and use CarPlay or Android Auto to play Spotify. Many options.
How's the sound? I tried one of these Android head units in an older civic and the sound was awful. I sent it back and got a double-din Pioneer head unit which sounded way better
Awesome. A major upgrade over the factory stereo and on par with any Kenwood/Pioneer/JVC stereo.
@@JackofAllMasterofNone I might give it a try but the Civic has the "Premium Sound" and the Android unit isn't compatible
Will my steering wheel controls still work? How about the stock backup and lanewatch camera?
All of that works
I have a little question I am extremely interested in buying this product but unfortunately I live in Canada. My question is will the delivery be made to us in Canada. I really want this product it is a good price and a good quantity but the real problem is that I am in Canada here thank you.
Yes they deliver internationally
Look in your armrest. You should have a USB outlet in there.
Hello! How long did it take for you to receive your package after buying this from eBay?
A week
Can you connect the original camera to the device? Or you need to install it's own camera?
The original backup camera is displayed on the IMID screen usually. It would take some custom wiring but is possible
How has it held up over time? Awesome video!
Thanks
The video is fairly recent, but it still works great!
How’s it holding up? Any battery kill?
No, it works perfectly. The unit completely shuts down if it senses that the vehicle battery is too low.
do you have to install the USB cord in order for apple carplay to work?
You can use wireless without it.
minus the phone buttons, do the steering wheel buttons still work. settings and cruise control?
Yes
@@JackofAllMasterofNonewhere did you get the steering wheel control module?
Will you need a new camera for this screen, or can you use the factory camera and connect it to the new screen?
If you have a factory backup camera it will be plug and play with this system.
Hey did your wheel control work after this
Yes
@@JackofAllMasterofNone Do u mind telling me how you did that cuz Im losing mind trying to figure this out
Not able to remove the plastic, am I doing it wrong?
Debating on getting this, how is it working for you right now?
Works great
How do you get the firmware updates? Is it downloaded from the stereo or do you have to download it onto a USB and then put it on the stereo?
You download them on to a USB drive and the unit automatically recognizes the update and runs its.
@@JackofAllMasterofNone thanks!
Hs there been any updates since your stereos manufacture date?
@@lionintu Yes I believe there has been 2 updates so far.
@@JackofAllMasterofNone cool thanks.
Can you run amplifiers off of this unit? I was going to run a four-channel amp and then a two-channel sub amp
Yes you can but the sub output is mono.
hello, does the sunwoofer that comes with the car work or did you have to install some other interface. What model of stereo is it
My car doesnt have a factory subwoofer. I'm sorry, I dont know the answer. You should reach out to Joying directly.
hi, i have civic 2012 with factory subwoofer, did u find the solution ? thanks
There is a model that works with subwoofer version.
Can you still turn the volume up and down using the steering wheel buttons?
Yes
Will the factory backup camera show on the new screen instead of the tiny one.
Not without additional custom wiring.
How did you get your steering wheel buttons to work? I had mine installed but it's not working. How is the wiring done?
And why is your Factory -> Car Model set to CRV instead of Civic?
It's plug and play. It's set to CRV because that is the canbus settings that works correctly with this car. As long as you connected all of the harness correctly and also double check that the looped wiring coming out of the back of the head unit is plugged into the canbus wire.
Did you get it working?
Does it support the laneWatch mirror camera in 2014 exl model ?
I believe so
Looks like they don't make one for my 2016 Civic Tourer 😢
do you know the name of the head unit model? I can't find them with the volume knob to check reviews
JY-HQ142N8G-B
It's in the title. There is no name just model number. Manufacturer is Joying. It's only sold on eBay or their website. Not Amazon currently
Is this will work for 2015 honda civuc ex with lane watch camera on the right side?
Yes, but you will need the 2015 specific model. According to Joying it should work with lanewatch camera but I would reach out to them directly to verify that
hey, in my 13 si i have it connected and it turns on, but the iMID says “audio off” did you encounter that?
No. It works fine.
Hello Jack!
That radio is awesome. I have a question, do you know if that radio supports the USB port inside the center console? My civic is an exl and has a usb port there
Yes it does
This is so nice i can't wait til i get mine installed im so sick of these buttons
Check your fuses in the driver's foot well
@@MicRuLerZ I checked all the fuses. I can’t find anything wrong!
Did it come with all needed wires? Harness?
Yes
So with the new head unit, we don't need to use the two 8mm screws anymore, right?
Correct
Do you know how to remap the "source" button on the steering wheel so that it can start/pause music? Now it is switching between apps in my case
@@duyanhvu5841 Unfortunately it's not possible. The canbus steering wheel controls cannot be remapped.
After installing the new touchscreen radio in a 2013, the small mini screen up on the dash stays on whenever the car is off, any reasons why ?
No idea. That's not normal
Did you ever figure out the solution I’m having the same issue
How did you get it to work with imid?
Our imid clock was staying on constantly draining the battery, so we disconnected the canbus now the imid and steering controls are dead.
How do we fix this?
You contact Joying who is responsible for the problem and ask them for a solution. It worked fine on mine
What version did you get?
The newest version android 12 or the older android 10?
10
Do you have the link to the newer style radio for my 13 si
Should be this one
2013-2015 CIVIC Android 12 8+128GB: ebay.us/Q3Tnly
When I go to the settings to reset my oil change notice, how would I do it on the new system?
Look for vehicle settings app. It's there.
Does this work with both cameras rear+side? Can I upgrade the camera on the side mirror?
did you end up figuring it out? i cant get the side camera to work, but the backup camera works fine
@hussainahmed6638 I didn't install the Joying HU. Yet. I still have A sony AX-7000 which only has 1 input which i use for rear cam. I haven't made the leap because I'd have to also buy an amp to at least match the ax7000 performance
Is it worth the extra $40 for the 8G of RAM and 128gb compared to the 4G64gb
It just depends on how many apps you are planning on installing. I don't think the extra is necessary for my usage but for some people it may be.
@@JackofAllMasterofNonewhat capacity do you recommend me to buy if i justa want to get it for the apple carplay?
If my factory civic si came with a usb in the center console can I use that to plug into the unit?
Yes, but it requires modifications
