Im back after trying this for the last 4 days. All I can say is Thank you!! For the last 4 years I've had a pain in my right Glute/Hamstring/Lower back area. Been too two specialists who told me too touch my toes and strengthen my core. I did both of those things and while they helped a lot, the pain was still there. Until I started doing this stretch! Your a life saver man. Thanks so much for this info!
I play Rubber Guard a lot, to the point where I'm now able to get my shin behind my head. The first variation is so reminiscent of getting into rubber guard without an opponent and that did wonders for me. Great video Emmet!
Nice, its one of my guiding principles that if a movement is generally good for the body it appears for different reasons in different sports and activities across the globe.
This is great, thanks! Any chance we could get a video about how to progress from a garbage tailor pose to knees to ground? Is this something that took you time to develop? For me this area is impossible. Some people are lifting weights in a butterfly motion and doing a loaded stretch at the bottom. Thoughts? Other techniques? Thanks!
Emmet, thank you very much for this video. I deem I have never properly stretched the piriformis before. I didn't grasp the details of it during the workshop. Still it is my limiting factor in training the side split.
Emmet Louis just wanted to say, i just did three sets of this and its by far the farthest ive gotten my butt to the floor in the pigeon! Makes me think how much I’ve been cheating the 90° in the front foot all these years. Thanks man
Hello Emmett, thank you so much for the vid. Not sure if you’ll see this comment but here goes with my question. I am unable to cross my legs, my knees are so high and it hurts. I can kinda sit cross legged with a pillow. Will these stretches help? Thanks
the raised pigeon stretch gets nowhere near my piriformis, but it hits my biceps femoris longus extremly hard, is this an indication of an extremly tight biceps femoris longus?, or am i doing it wrong?
it's common generally due to sciatic nerve compression. I'd say back off the depth a bit on the stretches and really focus on releasing the tension and relaxing more in them
Hi Emmet, great video! I have a question. I have been recently diagnosed with 1st degree arthrosis in my hip (FAI), would you recommend doing these stretches? I am a bit scared. Or what would you recommend doing with my condition? I would appreciate any help, even if you have some other credible sources to recommend. many thanks!
Hey mate. I've got diagnosed FAI in my right hip (and probably left hip) and a torn labrum on the right hip also, and these stretches have been great. So i'd say go for it, don't be freaked out by your diagnosis, just go by how your body responds to the stretch, if it feels like a funky pain, leave it, if it;s just a tight pain, that's an indication you need to do more of it! I'd recommend these channel's for FAI, fantastic resources , literally saved me from surgery: ua-cam.com/video/x1d9-JcMBoU/v-deo.html , ua-cam.com/video/XmxQm3Ae4Kw/v-deo.html. cheers
Hi Emmet, love the content. I have low back pain where spine meets hip on my right side. My right hip is anteriorly rotated and my left piriforkis is unbelievably tight ( I guess to compensate). Of course you can’t treat me over the internet, but do you think it’s a good idea to stretch this super tight piriformis? Any other advice? Kind regards? Joe
Hi Emmet, I tried these and for the 2nd one you mention that it should be felt in the piriformis but I feel it quite accurately in the hamstrings: am I missing something (I paid attention to perform the stretch exactly as you said only without elevating the knee as my whole thigh was on the floor anyways) Thanks for the video as good as usual :)
Hmmm, This might be a case of a Louis specific thing, might be worth looking at some videos of a sciatic nerve floss try out a few reps of that then repeating to see if that's it. Otherwise sometimes you're going to feel it where you feel it
hi emmet, i have question about the head to toe program, just started it recently and have gone from same side elbow to fist + thumb to fist + 3 fingers in just 3 days, but i haven't been feeling soreness in my hamstrings except for my calves and hip flexors during compressions, am i doing the exercises correctly? if not can you give me some tips or pointers thanks
Hello, I was wondering if you have helped people with a pinching hip? Does it always mean there are bony abnormalities and you cant do something about it or have you seen people get better?
@@florianteichert Three areas you want to focus on for this are hip flexors, short adductors and piriformis. I suggest checking out stretch therapies channel as they have loads of stuff on these topics and their forum is great.
it's impossible for me to get the back leg in the same plane of a front split back leg. It remains externally rotated and a bit to the side. Tight hip flexors? I have good internal rotation.
Most likely tight hip flexors, The goal is to get the leg straight so it doesn't have to be done at once, you get as close as you can with the intents then it'll incrementally improve as you get better
Emmett's videos are more calming than a bottle of Valium.

I'll be playing with both of these today, Emmet, and thanks for the kind words.
Hopefully they help you out in your boat crawl spaces!

I was looking to find a great routine for rubber guard, good to know this works!
Thank you, thank you Emmett. Now I can stretch my piriformis without hurting my knees.
Awesome, glad I could help with this!
This gave me a lot of relief from my glute pain thanks for sharing

D best and most underrated channel...Thnks sir : )
Love the video Emmet, and thank you for the ideas! Any advice for frequency with the intense piriformis stretching?
Twice a week would be fine

Is stretching the anterior capsule important for flexibility? If so, do you suggest any good exercises for it?
Very good and thorough work.

Hey Emmet! The sound is way too good! I don't get the results I'm used to when listening to that video ;)
I'm making it too easy for people, its ok the camera keeps auto focusing on the background so this time the camera work is shit

Trying this the day after squat day wasn't the best idea!! Ouch! lol
Edit: Just tried it again after a few hours. DAMN that is a nice stretch!
Is one set sufficient for the first exercise if we go for every day frequency?
One set once a day is sufficient.

Right hip even impinges anteriorly sometimes. Is there a good stretch for this?
Its worth trying but it might not be tight for lacking flexibility reasons but as protective tension. Explore cautiously
Emmet Louis thanks for the response:)

Hi emmet. Just tried the second stretch and I'm feeling the same stretch sensation as the first stretch. Does this mean that I'm doing it correctly?
Hi Emmet, do you suggest stretching piriformis before side splits or it has nothing to do with it?
There's no major link between them for most people but its worth trying out and see if it works for you.

@@EmmetLouisM3 thanks, and one last thing when doing the compressions is trying to bring my chest towards my knee necessary to help flatten my pike?
Hello, I was wondering if you have helped people with a pinching hip? Does it always mean there are bony abnormalities and you cant do something about it or have you seen people get better?
I have helped people with this. It doesn't always mean there's a bony issue or labrum issue.
Could you give me some things that I can try out? I was basically taught that if you have it you are fucked

Spot on!
Would having tight piriformis inhibit the ability to hip hinge in pancake?
I think so.
