- The BBC have been forced to apologise after showing a replay of the incident that saw Barnabas Varga stretchered out of Hungary's 1-0 win over Scotland at Euro 2024 on Sunday night.
The 29-year-old was forced out of the clash after colliding with Angus Gunn, who was attempting to claim the ball in the group stage Euros game in Germany.
Varga spent several minutes down on the turf receiving treatment, with Hungary players visibly distressed.

Ive seen this many times when fighters get knocked out. Their body stiffens and it looks awful, the arms, hands and legs stretch out unnaturally. This happens when the brain suffers trauma. Glad he’s on his way to a full recovery, it was sickening to watch.
happens every week in mma

He will never fully recover. CTE gets worse over time. Look at American football players.
@@Induna123 Not trained fighters... Being kod mid air and landing on his face? What mma you watching?
@@GrouchyKrautYeah it's actually worse in sports like traditional football, mountain biking, horse riding etc according to new studies. Because of the repeated mini bumps as a person is shaken, or heading a ball in football. Dehydration also has a direct impact on the severity of concussion, so does exhaustion. As does secondary impact injury, like this one, where he's already unconscious then headbutts the ground from a height for the second injury makes it way more serious. People are down playing this too much, you can litteraly die tripping over your own feet and bumping your head.
They tried to broadcast reality, but the viewers can't take it anymore. They're no longer used to reality.
But children can be watching. You want little children to watch that? That was a sickening scene. To a child, it's frightening. Reality can be brutal and gruesome. I myself choose not to watch many examples of reality like a person being shot or a beheading. That's reality as well, though it's more severe form of reality, but it is still reality.
If thats the case children should never be allowed at football games since they are guranteed too see atleast two injuries @@tombase-rd6xg

@@Natashagirl9 you know what would have been respectful? if they would have checked the replays and given the keeper a red for knocking out a man cold with his elbow, not your mockery of morals. hiding away replays won't change the fact that it happened.

The back story is that Scottish goalkeeper elbowed Hungarian player in the face. Hungarian player, Barnabas Varga, lost consciousness. He was convulsing on the ground for several minutes before German paramedics decided to casually walk over to him. Dominik Szoboszlai was dragging the stretcher to make them move quicker. By the time the paramedics went over and set up the covering, the BBC aired Barnabas Varga 2x laying on the ground convulsing. Barnabas suffered several fractures to his face, a concussion, and he is awaiting operation. He is conscious. No apology from Scotland goal keeper either. Paramedics were atrocious, so was the was BBC handled the situation.
It's everywhere.
Now Princess Anne kicked by a Norse.
Get over yourself. What has already been seen cannot be unseen. Sport is televised live. Injuries occur all the time. You obviously watched the replay so please tell us why you watched it second time around. Incidentally, do you watch boxing, wrestling, rugby, ice hockey, hockey and other contact, injury inducing sports. If so, why if you don’t want to see participants injured. No spectator of any sport watches it for the chance they may see a player injured. Next, you will want all sport banned.
@@stephfoxwell4620
😂😂😂
The paramedics are only allowed to enter the field when the referee calls for them. Even if they want to go they can’t because those are the rules of the UEFA. And why they did not run to the patient is pretty simple they have their working boots on and are first of all not allowed to run (also a rule by the UEFA) and they should not run but walk fast. Because if they run there is the chance that they’ll fall and also their adrenaline gets higher and that could lead to them not doing their best job when arriving at the patient. The playing field is pretty slippery if you don’t wear football boots.
@@jimstewart4253 Knew it was serious when he went into a spasm and was unconscious. ...Hopefully makes a full and speedy recovery. But we didn't need to see that. BBC showed it anyway. As a fresh news, he had multiple fractures, broken bones in his head and concussion. An operation is waiting for him, but he was stable and communicating now. Contact sport is MMA, this should be handled like crime... it wont happen next time. The lawyers will be all over this. I don't believe the Scottish FA or the goalkeeper have got a leg to stand on.
Why no replay? It belongs to the sport. They get millions and people cannot even watch replays anymore. Nowadays everything is a problem isn't it.
But its right an proper that everyone gets to see the replay, in case it was a brutal foul and penalty - we need to know. The guy just got KO'd, happens all the time in sports. As long as your Physio is there to make sure he's breathing isn't obstructed, it is, factually, not a big deal. It's extraordinary how the corporates have managed to create this hysteria everytime someone takes a knock in sports.
Many recent instances have been safe n effective related, that’s why they are nervous.
Uefa show the live images, not the BBC, and your thumbnail shows the injury.

This is not true... channels get to decide if they show the repeats or switch back to the live transmisison.
@@xbqchm No they don't. The feed (including replays) are all part of the same live feed beemed from a central source. They could technically cut the feed, but when they realised they were replaying the incident it's too late - the operational side of the studio can't react that quick.
A replay of real life is considered too much for TV? Give me a break..... society is going crazy seriously.

So a footballer was injured playing. FGS It is a SPORT & whether injured or not if televised live, they are bound to be seen! Are these presenters without injury themselves? Such weaklings! 👎
How exactly did you manage to miss the point by THAT much? The apology is about the replay, not the actual broadcast, of which BBC most likely has a some control of (if not, okay, not their fault) but showing someone's injury over and over on purpose is just malicious and disgusting
I do not understand why we should not see the replay?! Who does this help? Of course, we want to see it. It does no more harm than already was done. People are curious creatures. There is nothing bad about showing the replay on all the angels. They show it all the time on minor injuries - so where is the line? Stupid rules.

Shocked onlookers looked on in shock!!! It's SHOCKING said one. 🙄
People are too sensitive. Who cares if they replay.
What is it with the English nowadays? They can't see this, they are triggered by that ...
What the problem with showing this?
This was not a simple collision, but a deliberate serious crime. The goalkeeper broke the player's cheekbone with his elbow. Why did the referee not watch the video? Why did the VAR not show all the camera positions? Why did the medical staff not go immediately, but just walked slowly to the unconscious player? Disgrace! Why didn't the referee then give a red card? Why did the referee let the team that caused the serious injury kick the ball? I'm not biased am I?!?
Don’t be ridiculous!! Have you seen a football game before, or it was the first one?
It was an unfortunate coming together. The goalkeeper kept his eyes on the ball and Varga collided with his arm. This was nobody’s fault. Accidents like this happen on the football pitch and in other contact sports. There was no suggestions this was anything other than an accident and it was certainly not a penalty. Anybody who understands the game of football knows that incidents like this, especially when players try to head the ball, happen.
Hungary deserved to win the game, despite the fact that there was a clear penalty not given to Scotland.
Don't talk utter shite,it was an accident. And if you want to moan ar the ref, ask him how he missed a definite penalty
Over-emotional blinkered verdict. Your stupidity is off the scale and ridiculous.

Angus Gunn is a monster. Shame on you.
"sports surgeon Zsolt Knoll, director of the Emineo Private Hospital, which treats the player, told InfoRádio.
"This injury is brutal," concluded the sports surgeon, who pointed out that the Scottish goalkeeper's elbow hit Varga's head in a place where the bones are already thin-walled, which is why the part of the skull under the nose and eyes was crushed as a result of the impact. According to the expert, there was also a risk that the bony wall of the eyeball could be damaged, which could hinder the functioning of the eye-moving muscles."

BBC gets flak for airing a replay, meanwhile haven't seen a peep from the goal tender who made such an idiotic leap into a group. Still haven't figured out how he thought he was going to catch that ball. He should've gotten sacked & fined. Players are going to make contact, but that was idiotic.

Apologize for what????
For not respecting the players privacy?? Why do you think the team mates tried to shield him. The world doesn’t need to see you in such a state and you deserve privacy. It’s like filming a car wreck. It’s just tasteless and the victims don’t need the whole world watching
But I wanted to see it
Sad he will never fully recover. Once your brain is injured, its injured for life. He may be fine for years to come, but it will eventually catch up 😢
Typical BBC
This is stupid. Why are we not allowed to see how the poor bloke was injured?
Well 2 reasons first some people don't like too see it... there is a reason crime movies and other movies were people die or are badly hurt are usually only for people above a certain age for good reasons. Watching a football game is usually seen as safe entertainment and watched by teens not jet at that age.
The other is that it's kinda disrespectful to the player, or would you enjoy it if somebody see's you in your most tragic moment and put it on national television.
Meanwhile they show graphic pictures of nasssi🇪🇺 at tacks on ruzzia.
I'll allow it.
what's the big deal?
After a kid runs onto the pitch for a selfie with Ronaldo. 'Well we don't want to see that, do we?' Yes we do!
Somebody 'audibly' swears during match. 'We apologise for any strong language you may have heard.' Why? It's a football match, and surprise, players, Managers and crowds do swear during a game.
Somebody is injured. 'Quite rightly, we're not going to see that replay.' Why? If I'm watching a game, I want to see what happened, not have my viewing censored by some precious woke.
I come to see the reply!
If you are too soft to witness someone getting a broken jaw the you shouldn't be watching TV and certainly should not be on the internet.

AGAIN? Have they not learned? Shameful - to be fair BBC did appear to pull out to wide angle as soon as replay was being shown - I thought at the time why are they replaying it but at such a distant camera angle we can’t see it - now I know why....BBC are awful but the likes of UEFA much worse!
Despicable BBC
No big deal.🤕
Yet the video will be highly viewed on youtube.... what a joke
Idk why all these „fans” don’t understand that yes it is the sport yes contact happens BUT the player who had an injury does not need to have the whole world watching. They have right to privacy and don’t need a news show showing everyone how he looks unconscious and injured in the face. Why is that so hard to understand? Why do you think the team mates tried to shield him? Because they care about him and his privacy!!
@user-kc7xk6wy2z it’s like filming a car accident. It’s tasteless and just doesn’t have to be. Why are ppl so eager to see other ppl hurt and injured?

Apologize for what ? It’s sports and it’s something that can happen. Why is society gone soft ? 😒
BBC is always awful....
I saw the collision where he went into a somersault. But he tried to come back up before staying down. He was conscious? He got a minor face fracture. They were looking for a penalty behind closed curtains. The only team that deserved a penalty that night is Scotland. If Hungary want to blame UEFA they should be disqualified for wasting 10 minutes which changed the course of the game. I'm tired of this kind of hyped up bullshit from teams. A face fracture is not life threatening. Don't compare it to Eriksen.
Shame, a player rendered unconscious can not immediately report his own differential diagnosis. Right.
Footballers are too soft 😂
i initially thought something really awful had happened they way he was shielded.Back in the 70's a player would be expected to play on, they don't make footballers like they used to i suppose. blood was spilled in a friendly kick about when i was a kid:)
He was unconscious, a bit tricky to play on.
