Hope you are doing well mate! I came across a beautiful Plumb Tassie with a wonderful slim handle with the reninents of a "Champion Tool Handles" sticker. When I saw it was stamped on both sides I remembered your video explaining that was done pre WWII. I didn't need encouragement...I took it home.
Very Nice ! I have slowed down some of how I work when hanging a handle. I find I end up with a much better job. Watching your work , I see I need to be more patient in the process. I will look for one of those Shinto rasps. Looks like a very nice tool ! Thanks !
I go at it with a 4 pound lump hammer but with a mild steel drift just a bit bigger than the wedge size. I find it gives me better control, and if the wedge does split, makes it easy to drive both halves independently.... concentrates the force. This method also makes it easy to induce a split if one part of the wedge simply won't go further. I have the handle held vertical, firmly, but not too tightly, in the vice with the base set on wood or steel blocks. Gives me both hands free for the job. Lovely looking axe but rare to find Tassies in UK... we exported them all down under ;
I loved the music and they way you hang your axe with basic tools. Great job sir and a beautiful axe. Are tassies easy to find there? I would love to own one.
Very professional easy to follow video. Great to watch other people's processes. The red handle came out great and the information on the in Plumb stamps was quite interesting. Do you have a favorite handle wood?
@@axesofoz717 Thanks! I put that Hytest Craftsman 3 1/2 that we talked about on a Kruger spotted gum handle. Beautiful wood to work with but very dense. Also checked my Plumb and it's only got stamps on 1 side. Oh well...nice to have a better idea of the age. Take care.
@@brettbrown9814 I'd like to get one of those 3 1/2 pound Hytests one day. Not easy to find! All the Plumb tassies are amazing axes. I have a late 1960s Plumb that was a wedding present to my Dad which is one I will never part with.
Outstanding I learned a lot!!!
Thats great cheers mate
Thxs...
Appreciate the process.
No worries mate. Cheers.
Nicely done

Great information, I use those same tools the same way you explained except for the hultafors knife I have a mora which is pretty much the same! 👍
Excellent job sir. In addition to your craftsmanship, someone is also a great editor...well done...
Thanks, I'll admit I put more time into editing this one, bit of a challenge for an old bloke from the 80s like myself lol.

The only thing on the editing, could you leave that captions up for a bit longer.

Thanks mate
Nice job. Keep up the good work.
Beautiful!
Thanks mate :)
I use a steel or brass hammer to hang as well. Will sometimes use wood for fitting. But need steel to set it.
Yeah for sure.

Thanks mate :) Yes there are Tassies everywhere in Australia, but not always easy to find one in really good condition.
@@theechoinggreen6175 If you even had an average one that you would like to sell sir I would pay you whatever you asked for it. Thank you.

Thanks mate. Although as an Aussie I want to say spotted gum, my favourite handle wood is hickory :)
