"The king and his horse" is one of the best speeches in anime, but it is especially great in context of the story. White literally spells out to Ichigo the reason why he's rebelling against him. White, Old Man and Ichigo all share the same soul, so if Ichigo dies like a moron, which he is on the verge of multiple times throughout the series so far, then they all die. Old Man was willing to give ichigo power just to stop the rain in his inner world, however to White thats not enough reason to help, he wants to be sure ichigo wont just commit suicide via battle just cause he decided to try talk-no-jutsu and understand his opponent's feefees.
These 3 episodes (previous, current and next one) are VERY heavy when it comes to foreshadowing future events.
one of many reasons why ichigo is a trash character, he just follows the flow of things, he doesnt have his own compass beyond helping friends and family. I'ts so bad in fact that when questioned by aizen why he does things, he was paralyzed with fear and doubt, mutlple times in the story he questions himself why he does things and struggles to get an answer. Ichigo is such cliche white and black character, all he ever does is the same shit over and over spamming getsuga cause that's all he learns, it has no weight to it, its like a car on neutral that goes downhill whenver ther is a downhill. hollow ichigo should have eaten him and take control of his body as the new protagonist.

"Ichigo doesn't have his own compass beyond helping friends and family" so what? Wanting to protect what's important to you is literally what every shonen character does. Luffy is literally all about family. It's like the one thing he says about his crew over and over.
Ichigo literally starts off the show saying "I don't enjoy being able to see ghosts, I just want to be a regular dude." It's a foundational part of his character. He doesn't WANT to do any of this, but he HAS to. Fundamentally that's not going to give you the same character as someone like Naruto where he CHOSE to work at becoming Hokage, or Luffy CHOSE to work at becoming the King of the Pirates. Ichigo literally doesn't want to do any of this, he just wants to be a normal kid with his family and friends, but he can't.
I recognize not a lot of people are down with that as a show theme - I recognize that man vs. self is not as enjoyable as other forms of conflict in fiction but I disagree with your thinking that Ichigo is a "trash character." Just because you don't like something doesn't make it bad, - it's just not for you. I personally think of the big three series, Bleach has the most depth, and it's for those very reasons.
I also don't think White Ichigo ever actually would have beaten Ichigo from a narrative standpoint - but discussing that would lead to spoilers and I don't wanna put any of that down here.
@@dolphin-studio first of all, a character not doing what you want them to does not make them trash. Before ichigo got involved in all of that Soul Reaper bullshit he was just a 15 year old with a power to see spirits and traumatic guilt over his mother's death. He is pretty much a kid thrown into a war zone. Would you have genuinely done better in his place? Probably not. Of course he has doubts about his own motivation, literally months ago he had a semi-normal daily life, now he's fighting wannabe demigod who supposedly manipulated his life since he was born.
Ichigo's simple motivation is not bad either. In fact, it's better than most other shounen protagonists. What's so bad about his desire for everything to resolve peacefully and go back to normalcy? Do you WANT your life to be in danger, your friends and family dead and gone, your world about to be destroyed? Or would you rather live in relative peace with superpowers as a bonus?
Compare that to, say, Naruto and Luffy's motivations. "I WILL BE A HOKAGE/PIRATE KING!" both of them don't even know what it actually means for most of the series, and in Naruto's case that's not even his actual motivation, that's just a coping mechanism he uses to not think about his actual desire to be loved and acknowledged by the village, and his goal is achieved after he beats Nagato. Guess what motivates Naruto after that? Same motivation as Ichigo for the rest of his existence. Look at protagonists from Fate, Demon Slayer, JJK, almost every Isekai story. They all usually share the same motivation as Ichigo if you dig past their side motives.
Finally, if you actually finished Bleach, you would know that Ichigo was NEVER in danger of full hollowfication except for his time in the pit when he was regaining his shinigami powers. He literally goes full Hollow in his fight against Ulquiorra, yet his transformation is reversed and his body even healed just cause his mask was damaged? Don't be ridiculous. White was a part of Ichigo for his whole life. Unlike regular shinigami that manifest a Zanpakuto spirit after spending years with an Asauchi blade, Ichigo was born with one. White is pretty much like his twin brother trapped in the same body, unable to reach ichigo at all for 15 years, and when they finally meet he gets rejected, and yet he helps and protects ichigo time and time again. He is hurt by the rejection, but that doesn't mean he wants to murder ichigo for it, as it's literally just a misunderstanding. So he trues to help ichigo in the only way he can, by forcing him to do all the things he doesn't want to so that he would grow stronger.

No matter how many times I see hollow Ichigo use Getsuga at point blank range it never gets old and I have repeatedly seen it in this video 20 times
Bleach has a lot of good speeches, The king and his horse is great and one of my favorites is in the next episode.
I actually like that the anime added these hallucinations of past fights to the series. Their purpose of forcing Ichigo to acknowledge that he settled for what he already obtained, ignores his instincts and never confronts his traumas is really emphasized in the hallucination of Jin Kariya, the big bad of the Bount arc, who was Ichigo's first true kill in the anime (his manga kill doesn't happen till much later) since Hollows don't count since they are purified not killed.

the king and the horse speech can be related to life if you take it out of anime context i translate it in to despression ( if you lose ill take over and you will be my horse and i will be the king I like to think about in the moment zangetsu is giving him a run for his money0 despression will consume some thoughts and focus

So yeah it's an odd situation where Ichigo's soul reaper powers are fused with the Hollow. That's why he is also referring to himself as Zangetsu
