The Bang on a Can All-Stars perform David Lang's "cheating, lying, stealing" at the Tongyeong International Music Festival, 2014.
I've listened to this many times over the last nine years. Massive props to Bang on a Can, as well as to David Lang.

Could someone please explain what the title of this piece has to do with what we are listening to?
self explamatory, each word depict the music section. If u havent noticed i dont see any point explaining, just enjoy the music and think of cheating lying and stealing. basically the artist is depicting those 3 acts in the music ...notice how the whole piece is divided to 3 sections....first pattern second one and last. The second was divided by two....i think i havent heard it more than once...to analyse properly and also there is an end to the last which take u to the beginning, etc...most artist are happy to let the listener make its own interpretation....not sure about David Lang i dont even know the guy! best just enjoy the music for now...
What is the metal thing the percussionist plays called? (the 2 pieces)
They're brake drums, which are literally car brakes but used for percussion
Came to ask this question. Glad it has been answered. Also, wtf, but ok.
@Bang on a Can
Come and go as you please, then.
+Bang on a Can
Speak for yourself bulgingbiceps 19 I think it is cool. there is different emotions in each piece and you should know that.
Dischordian genius hertz me.
müstesna bir yokolma cihazı. ikisi birlikte bir şiiri tamamlamışlar
(diye biliyorum)
Be honest.
Brett and Eddy brought you here.
No, this is a just a good piece of music.
no
Who are Brett or Eddy ?
Nah, I've been following Bang on a Can for years. They do great stuff.
It must of required much discipline to rehearse, such an incredible statement of what sound is and can do, is not that concept almost, unthinkable? This is disturbia done like no other beyond marching to the beat of ones own drumming! I like but wonder about music for good and health of the ordinary person who rarely experiences the power of what harmonics ans water structure mean for a human being --yet there are beings that enjoy the "else". Even of semantics to reflect on for disruption purposes. Hahaha obviously I have unfamiliar and uncomfortable feelings -- EVOKED!!! I wish I could lie. Maybe tommorro!
And to be able to keep a steady beat in your head!
Nice indeed. Next would love to see them do it with no music. See the end of the Bad Plus song, Physical Cities, where they do precisely that.
Not really feasible for working musicians to put in the amount of time it would take to memorize this. They do have other gigs…
Arthur bois?
