Ay ay Ranga Sir, I concur. Democracy rating - 5 (with respect to idea of democracy we dream) And it's a Banana republic, Nupur Sharma goes into hiding 6 people cut off heads, Zubair serial offender is hail and happy in public, Akabaruddin Owaisi roams free. Yet we are called Hindu fascists and Muslims victims.
It still is a democracy with a bad law and order. Will people vote out BJP for it? No because they don’t have an option. But theoretically they could if someone was to take that plank.
Babones is not wrong. They demonstrate how competitive and free wheeling Indian democracy is. And how Indians have more free speech and freedom than Indians think. Babones is rating Indian democracy, not other aspects of India.
I think that Babones's definition of democracy is limited to technicalities and processes, whereas Ranganathan's concerns are about the functioning and results of democracy. This is why the latter is alarmed by the unchecked prejudices of the Supreme Court while the former feels that since the electoral process is fine there is no need to look at anything else.
Anand is angry! Being a hindu Indian who is let down by all political parties for their orientation towards Islamists/jihadis while making policies for Indians is painful!
I love you both for what you do in relation to our nation. I really respect the calmness of babones inspite of Ranganathan's interruptions and not letting him speak. I think babones has walked a straight line and made his points correctly with logic and rationale. Ranganathan tried to hold him responsible for which he's not. But anyways it was an interesting intelligent discussion
Shekhar Gupta is also my guru. I regularly read him. Whatever he justifies, I readily know it is wrong. He saves me lot of time and energy. Prof Babonese is a genius student of terrible teachers. Kudos to Prof. Babonese. Ranga sir, as usual, makes himself un-ambiguously clear.
I think the Prof. Ranganathan was very interruptive during the discussion. Although I agree with his argument that how can he have Shekhar Gupta, Rajdeep Sardesai and Karan Thaper as his Gurus. The most vicious and outright liars journalists INDIA has ever seen.
I think that SB was saying this tongue in cheek for the EDUCATION he received from them. It's unfortunate that AR did not catch it and went on bulldozing, and that SB never clarified his view.
Shekhar Gupta is absolutely great with his CTC in Print, however, it is only so because I know if what I have to listen to or what I have to let go/ discard/trash. He is very cunning and vicious while peddling false and poisonous narratives in a very subtle way. If you are unaware of his tactics then mind you, you are played and indoctrinated...
brilliant clarity on prof babones' end... till the people don't want those issues resolved, they won't. till then they will be pet peeves... at the altar of free logic.
Babones is right about process which is what democracy is; policy is shaped by democracy and that is ALL he is saying to us. An elected Court is a good point and a collegium is less representative is true. Freezing of Reapportionments is a wonderful point.
We have to understand that being a Professor Salvator might be good in understanding the figures and datas and he criticised the surveys, which are maligning India's reputation. But he doesn't understand the real problems and criticalities of India.
Mr. Salvatore Babones is doing what western world is doing, using their own yardstick to measure India's democracy. Is what is happening in America really democracy??
These Western Supremacist themselves place their Indian puppets in various fields and then they say "we don't know anything, we are just echoing what Indian intellectuals are telling. And so Indian intellectuals are anti India not us..." What a B S.
I like Anand Ranganathan, but I wish he would not keep interrupting Salvatore Babones.............Babones is very data centred and has intelligence based explanation of Democracy...... and he needs to complete his explanations. Interrupting others is such a rude behaviour that a lot of Indians do, without realising how rude it is
Actually he didn't, J&K was a democratic state when pandits got killed, and if govt could protect the very nature of the country and constitution by dissolving the democratically voted parties in India which are also allowed by indian constitution may sound undemocratic to him but if it's saves lives and saves the core of the constitutional definition of India, woudn't it be justifiable? He thinks freedom of speech is subjective to India but wants the same democratic way in India as it is in US and Australia. And the democratic way to even let the ruling parties pass the right policies in the centre to save the democracy is an huge hurdle the courts would only get more inefficient once politics is mixed in
I am a Engineer by education but a History Teacher in a school by a profession. After listening to people like Anand Ranganathan, Sai Deepak, Vikram Sampath and Rajiv Malhotra, I have a question and a suggestion to my extend. 1. Why no public debate on school textbook with people of right and left? 2. Why can't NCERT come up with a internal choice inside the book with two set of chapters. I.e. one textbook having students/teachers option to select either Delhi Sultane or Bharatiya Kingdoms? (Something That NCERT follows with class 9 & 10 curriculum even today. Interternal choice of chapters.) Kindly someone educate me on this. Thank you.
Good point on election and transfer of power. 8points for free n fair sounds like fair criteria violence, vote buying, electoral authority are metrics wout speaking of competition
1. Love the crowd shots. Always interesting to see how many people are surgically attached to their phones. 2. Ranganathan is not really interested in listening to what Babones has to say.
The one thing I've noticed is how this guy keeps comparing democracy of india with US and Australia but the second we take freedom of speech his standards change,,, but obviously US and Australia doesn't face the same impact due to Islamic terrorism as much as in India does, when when India does sum that's undemocratic it's democratic by indian standards because these policies are making sure that it doesn't end up like Pakistan.
While Anand is correct in his assessment, Salvatore (being an outsider) doesn't know the ground realities so much.. But.. Salvatore's points are very very clear.. he is very clear in his head which I think we are not able to appreciate. I must say though, that for the first time - Anand seems to be lacking confidence and gravity of points.. he constantly interrupting Salvatore possibly due to a realization that his arguments lack weight when compared to the clarity coming from Salvatore's side..
I agree with Salvatore, democracy is different for different countries, what freedom of speech is in the USA, can be different in India and it's an example why democracy ranking is meaningless.
Professor Babones Atire is superb 👍🏻👍🏻 And it’s always great enjoyment to hear this man who always relies on facts. Mr. Ranganathan speechs are cherished as well.
Look at the attire of two individuals - one who claims to be an Indian is wearing Whiteman's dress where the Whiteman is wearing a pure Indian attire. It's hard for Indians to get rid of slavery mentality. It's so deep rooted even for Anand Ranganathan it is difficult.
For a change Dr. Anand was a little impatient and interruptive and too stubborn today....surprising! Hats off to Mr. Babones for being soo patient and kind! Audience couldn't understand and in a hurry raised hand for Dr. Anand just because he is Indian and mostly RIGHT!😅....Anand ji just couldn't understand the essence of babones point which he actually put across very well!

Unfortunately no one says that democracy is from Bhaarat as a part of its ancient civilization. Will Durant in his book says Bhaarat gave the Zero, Democracy, etc.
The topic was "DECODING THE DEMOCRACY RANKINGS". So the sequence should have been a) What IS Democracy in the first place? b) What are the parameters on the basis of which the ranking is done? c) What parameters should be included, excluded or modified to arrive at a fairer ranking? d) How have the flaws in the current system of ranking placed, India at a lowly Rank 126?

Its wrong to call India Hindu Majority, its a Dhimmi Majority state, the divide is a clear 70-30, hence Dr Babones is right, 70% of Hindus who are Dhimmis don't mind the exile of Kashmiri Pandits, they don't mind several other things that are about dignity of a community, but they vote, and that is democracy
As much as I call Mr. Ranganathan a legend....this debate particularly was not moderated well. It felt Mr. Ranganathan came with a preoccupied agenda....and a bit of humility wd have made this debate a lot better.
I thought he made it interesting and if his agenda was to bring out the gurus of this professor - its not an agenda but more of having done his job brilliantly without the Stockholm Syndrome.
Prof. Anand I am a fan...but for this debate I give you 5 out of 10 😀...your points are important but not congruent to definition of democracy and ratings...
Obviously the one thing he failed to ask is if Salvatore thinks freedom of speech is subjective in India and there's nothing wrong with that , what makes him think the democratic way of running a country should be the same as it is in US or Australia. And if democracy cannot save the pandits of Kashmir on time due to heavy bureaucracy, where even a ruling party with right policies cannot be implemented without proving majority in the parliament whereby regional parties are willing to throw the pandits of Kashmir under the bus for muslim appeasement in their own states, what good is democracy to a country where the majority gets persecuted by the minority. And if he thinks the inabilities or issues of a country is due to bad policies, how exactly did democracy help India in 1946 when the elections decided the national borders whereby majority of muslims voted in support of it, so is it just the policies that are to be blamed here? Not the people who vote for it? And the very basic of democracy itself given J&K was a democratic state when pandits got killed and dissolving democracy there may sound undemocratic but is an essential step to preserve the very nature of the nation thus preserving democracy thereby also justifiable...
The Judges restrict what the public wants and the public or its elected people cannot do anything about it - then democracy in India is compromised due to it having powers within India that can circumvent Indian Democracy THIS (THE SUPREME COURT) DOES LIMIT DEMOCRACY IN INDIA So its a one in my opinion - Indian Supreme Court taking Indian Democracy to the ground
all he needed to ask is if Christians could be exterminates from a state and not get a justice in America. our democracy needs to take care more conplex religious contradictions than America. cant even compare. Our democracy's issues need much higher standards. so does Mr Anand on his logic...sorry but that's what I felt. its too aggressive to be taken seriously.
i hate to see it but i agree with Mr. Salvatore… especially about the meaning of democracy and the nature of freedom of speech of india. since absolute freedom of speech is not right for any country. have you seen the way the american democracy is going towards hell… active school shootings and at the same time 3year old kids getting sex change operations to change their gender
Unlike here they don't have Muslim majority who indulge in Kashmir genocide from Kashmir to kanyakumari on a daily basis from more than thousand years.
If the public response doesnt suit him, he changes the democracy ratings from 10/10, 5/10, the very embodiment of entitlement seen in this American professor guy.
Ranga got schooled hard by the professor. Essentially, Ranga thinks that democracy is this fairly tale land where everything should be perfect. In essence, democracy comes with its shortcomings within its very own design, which he potrays many times to justify India being a banana republic. In fact voting from a sample size of 100 students in front of him is actually 'Banana Republic tactics ;)
I like Prof. Babones. He resembles Nehru. He's attractive, he speaks well, he's a European (all Whites are) in the robe of India. He doesn't offend anyone but his words are sweet poison. He left an impression on all of us. But still I would surely prefer Dr. Anand Rangnathan over him. Because for calming myself Instagram is full of attraction. And I come here for truth.
Salvatore is very clear on his thoughts and ideas. Anand, this time, didn’t get the core concept and was very interruptive and borderline annoying. Salvatore had a stranglehold on the concept of democracy while Anand was beating around the bush conflating various issues moving away from the core concept of democracy.
Anand was very disappointing to say the least. He seemed to make no difference between the general and the particular. Here is where he parts ways with a J.Sai Deepak, for example who has strong views but never veers away from the argument. Anand's heart is in the right place, but he is too excitable and full of himself. In this discussion, where a Prof Babbones is on record to say that he does not question the motives...that his objections are to the methodology employed by the rating agencies, any interviewer should have been content allowing the Prof. to elucidate on that point first and then come to why India's ranking suffers on that account.
And I smell a sense of inferiority complex from you. Gori chamdi dikhi nahi ban gaye gulaam. Each and every argument given by Ranga sir are marvelous and unmatched ❤
@@TheVicdub Well, that’s your view. In this discussion, Salvatore was absolutely spot on and Anand was all over the place. If J Sai Deepak was here discussing democracy with Salvatore, you’d have seen the difference. Sai Deepak is a scholar while Anand is a media debater. Anand is too enamoured with the audience and their applause while Sai Deepak is focused on sculpting every word he says and going to the root of the debate and dismantling the opposite views. So, if you think this is coming from my ‘inferiority complex’ toward ghoras, I present you J Sai Deepak as my go-to man for such topics.
The first pitch to take the audience in awe is to JAISA DESH WAISA VESH .. a great communication strategy by Mr Salvatore He used his non verbal gestures to further his narrative as trained communication fox…! He talks like a planted stooge who talks sweet and holding a knife at back At the end of the day A gora is gora and we Indians always fall for them even if it means Gulami…! We have deep respect and support for Ranga Sir .. a nationalist and an Indian.. Certain a foreigner is coming and teaching us about democracy 😂😂😂 Ranga is peaking or spoken what best for India …!
Professor Salvatore is brilliant. Anand sir as usual is falling on the prey of rhetoric points. Anand sir should rethink what points he is going to present in what debate. Same 30 Secs points in every topic does not work. Also please learn to give opportunity for others to talk and present their points. Also Anand sir wants to listen his answers to his questions :) I am slowly declining as his fan. By the end he has managed to gain one more enemy of the state, who was putting effort to be neutral.
We should not allow a foreigner, any foreigner to acquire so much clout as a media personality in our country. We do not need validation from foreigners. Their opinions about us should not matter. By inviting him to so many forums we are simply saying : AA BAEL HUMEY MAAR. So the bull does his thing.
Professor Babones is a researcher (statistician) and is inherently objective+ analytical owing to years of work in the field. Dr. Anand seems way too swayed by his personal bias and seems to have lost track of the bigger discussion here! Professor seems to come from a more sincere place here than Dr. Anand does. And as someone who's experienced the way of working of the professors from abroad at least in my field- they are very objective and unbiased in their analysis. They'll never quote something out of personal bias or something they didn't first hand observe in their analysis. It has its own respect in the research arena and you should stop pushing another on their lack of bias. He's only mentioning what he observed from those data and has good things to say(if at all you will) to pander to those who want to put words in his mouth. He's just being true to his work! Indians need to stop herding and forcing individuals into submission!
for an American, democracy means u have the freedom to own gun. how many students have been killed on mass shooting incidents??????? so u need restriction in order to save lives. that's the justification of Mr. Jaishankar's speech
"Sarcasm" Dr. Anand Ranganathan agreed to become the moderator for this session so that he can earn lots of ₹10 and offend BJP IT cell members who earn just ₹2 per tweet as mocked by the opposition 😂😈
Prof Salvatore is an outsider and he is going to naturally, gradually and steadily cross the fence, has to appear to be 3rd party but he clearly supports India and slowly adding to narrative building by instigating discourse that is required to move away from congress colonial India. Just watch and a few years he will be as frank or more frank than Anand is currently. This will boost nationalist narrative of India domestically and globally. We need such discourses. India is going to be centre of world and lighthouse.

Babones writing on democracy is on topic when other index were saying cause modi won there is no democracy in India his paper was on that ascept 😂😂
Anand was very unprofessional. He did not allow Professor to finish his thoughts.
Salvatore is just being authoritarian than a totalitarian but there is no difference
Wakf has highest amount of land in India and they are adding more and more land so what is future of Hindus and others
Usually S Ranganathan takes 10 sec to destroy his opponent here he kept his monologue continue didn't let Other guy speak
@@seshanm54 Exactly. Well put.
@@vaakkaalan both of u r typical tn fools where sentiment rules reason. Anand is always Anand and so is sai Deepak.
Mr Salvatore presents an unbiased opinon based on facts.
Mr Ranganaths RaGa moment
Salvatore is like a baby infront of 30 sec. Howitzer
The first pitch to take the audience in awe is to JAISA DESH WAISA VESH .. a great communication strategy by Mr Salvatore
He used his non verbal gestures to further his narrative as trained communication fox…!
He talks like a planted stooge who talks sweet and holding a knife at back
At the end of the day A gora is gora and we Indians always fall for them even if it means Gulami…!
We have deep respect and support for Ranga Sir .. a nationalist and an Indian..
Certain a foreigner is coming and teaching us about democracy 😂😂😂
Ranga is peaking or spoken what best for India …!
Sorry to see, Salvatore's is struggling to hide his expression and anxiety anger...
Nailed it Andandji :)
Obama giving him noble prize , what a democracy
Mr. Ranga needs lo learn a lot about the difference between being an anchor and being a panelist.
At first I thought the lady introducing the debaters was Kareena Kapoor 🤡🤡🤡
You said it🙏
for an American, democracy means u have the freedom to own gun. how many students have been killed on mass shooting incidents??????? so u need restriction in order to save lives. that's the justification of Mr. Jaishankar's speech
"Sarcasm"
Dr.
