I was a skidder operator back in 1996 to 1998. old 518 model. open cage cabin. all lever control, no electronics, and none of that plexiglass crap that you can't see out of. that looks horrible dude, how the heck is that safe when you can't see the guys on the landing? Anyway, just reminiscing about the young days of my life. Good times, wouldn't trade them for anything. I miss riding to work in the "Crummy" with them other dirty men, and the smell of the fresh cut Doug-Fir trees. nothing can top that in my life experiences. moonlit rides with a picnic lunch in between? good stuff. You work safe, and watch out for them Jill pokes!
Get this. The newer skidders like that John Deere latest video I put up has a button inside for heated seat 😅. Yea nothing like the older days. But yea in summer days in a dusty environment, that windshield will get covered in dust and if the sun hits it, you can't see jack. You could turn the wiper on , but they don't last long on a thinning job 😅. They will get snatched off a machine that's a few months old
Heated seat? that old 518 I ran only had a heated blade... after a couple hours of turns, I would park off the side of the trail and put my butt and back up against the blade to thaw out. Turn about 4 or 5 more skids until lunch, and enjoy the the heat from the D8's blade at the landing. Safety meetings made it even better.
All the new skiders makes me want to be a loger Ac and heat every one i ran had great heat in summer u where frozen in the winter and had 2 windows if any you couldent see any thing out of them minit sun hits it litteraly that is like a new window compared to the old TJ 460 and 560 i actully liked the stear lever better like the old skiders every one thought the steering wheel was a great up grade and i never liked them its so much easyer with the lever in tight places hold it up or down to cut it .
@@kennethhoneycutt5397 sounds like the steering valve has some trash in it causing it to hang up some. Trying to think on where that would be located. Just follow the hydraulic lines on one of the cylinders and it'll lead to steering manifold. On that manifold you should see some valves on the block. (they will have electronic wires going to them 2 or 3 wires ). just unplug the electrical connection then unscrew the valve (working with one at a time then placing it back in after each inspecting) and inspect each for any type of debris in the little holes on the tip of them and see if it needs cleaning.

Right. Should of seen the newer John Deere skidder. It has a colored screen and heated seats 😅.
