- May 29, 2007 TV Show "The View" on ABC Barbara Walters bids farewell to Rosie O'Donnell. "I brought Rosie to the show. Rosie contributed to one of our most exciting and successful years at 'The View.' I am most appreciative. Our close and affectionate relationship will not change," said show creator Barbara Walters.

Rosie was the sole reason I even started watching The View back in 2006/07. It has not been as good w/out her being the moderator.

Good for you, but do you see a trend developing here. So many people are described as strong and courageous when they just don't know when to shut the hell up.

When i watched the feud just now on UA-cam i was yelling "commercial!" omg, i can't believe they let it drag out for as long as they did.
But in my opinion it was a fantastic argument, both are very confident speaking women and they went at each other with extremely good points. I'd totally watch that debate play out.

Rosie came back AFTER Hassendorff left the show .....yep Rosie HATES her.

But she and Whoopi didn’t get along. Joy returned as a replacement for her.
This sounds like the EXACT same speech that Barbara Walters made when she said that Elizabeth is not leaving The View and that Ellizabeth isn't going any where. I'm sure the same speech will be given when Elizabeth is gone from the show permanently. In other words, FIRED.
Elisabeth left to spend time with her husband and kids. You don't have children and babies need their mothers growing up and as time proves Rosie was an abusive, mean, nasty mother to her kids. Elisabeth has raised her kids properly and is a great mother.
Barbara references them getting pre-empted for a Bush press conference the next day, but that episode still aired in the mountain and pacific time zones, as well as the east coast of Canada! Kathy Griffin was the guest host and she kept bringing up the fight, annoying everyone else on the panel who were already trying to forget. Not surprised they just pretended there was no episode!
Probably because Barbra wanted to ban Kathy.

Barbara Walters is so fake.....i found it funny that Whoopi, who is her friend and who she is also close to, was put on the show that exact day after the Rosie quit. Barbara puts co host on the show whom she likes and is friends with. That's too much conflicts of interest. I d like to see a co host who is not friends wit Barbara and someone she doesn't know that well.
I like Whoopi Phatburg as an actress, but can't stand her on The View. Plus what's up with those bare eyebrows?

The series was the highest rated when Rosie was there both times and had never and never will get the ratings it got when she was on. I’m so glad that years later she has been vindicated and proven to be right in almost every things she’s ever said on this show because back in those days people mocked and ridiculed her for her views.
I did not know Rosie was on the show 5 days a week like the other ones maybe a guest but did not know she was on long time ago ? Thats cool !
She was on from September 2006 to May 2007. She had announced in April they couldn't come to an agreement on her contract, but would stay until June...then the fight with Elisabeth Hasselbeck happened and she asked to leave then. She returned again from September 2014 to February 2015 and left due to personal reasons. She later said she was having some health issues and she had also filed for divorce from her wife around that time as well.

you watch the clip of the catfight, Elisabeth was very forceful.
Rosie was always going to go - she decided to leave early.

I may be late on this, but I believe (and it’s pretty obvious) that the reason why Rosie decided to leave The View was because of Elizabeth. You can easily tell that she was hurt during the argument between her and Elizabeth.
No, it' was because ABC wouldn't meet her salary demands.

The dispute that Rosie and her representatives had with the network over their dispute with renewing her contract was the starting reason as to why she was leaving the first time and she also stated that in another clip I found which was from an earlier episode that was not long before the one where her and Elizabeth had the split-screen argument. However, the episode with the split screen argument with Elizabeth was what made her leave the show earlier than she was supposed to and made her not want to even come back as a fill-in, guest co-host, any guest appearance or any type of appearance at all on the show anymore until years later.
@@MrGraeme1997 The dispute with the network came first. Her plan was to leave with still about a month of the season left to go. A few weeks later was the argument. She had Thursday May 24 off then on May 25 announced she was done immediately.

Every american should take a 2 week vacation outside the States to find out what the world thinks of it.
Walters was lying through her teeth about feeling sad. She was relieved & happy to be rid of O'Donnell, although she couldn't say so on camera. RO gave everyone nothing but grief that year, acting like she was in charge & trying to take control of the show away from Walters and Bill Gedde.

The saddest part of this is when Elisabeth says "Rosie and I were in communication a lot this weekend," which was a BLATANT LIE. Rosie said on her blog that that weekend Elisabeth only talked to her partner Kelly and to this day Rosie/Elisaveth have not spoken except for via email.

wait a minute. Rosie and Elizabeth had that fight on the air - and Rosie was ejected? But Elizabeth stays? gosh.
Rosie resigned. Wasn’t ejected. She said she walked out crying. She was supposed to stay 3 more weeks (June 15 or so she’d have finished) but she was upset by what was going on
Rosie came back again only to leave less than a year after returning.
I find it interesting that Rosie had said "It'll be big evil Rosie attacking little innocent Elizabeth." She sort of set herself up to be the victim instead.
What I do like about the show is that people are allowed to have different opinions. The unfortunate part is how they can clash and hurt friendships. I hope Rosie and Elizabeth were able to work things out.

Later we found out Rosie had a crush on Elizabeth and was part of the reason she left. Elizabeth mentioned in an interview a few years later that finding out about the crush grossed her out, lol.
I love Rosie, she is Smart, open and not hypocrite like some other people on TV. Maybe too smart and too passionate for TV. Her passion deserved her somehow. It is unfair, but it was a great occasion for her to recreate herself.

Liz is the only conservative on that show, she's there to be that conservative thought. Everytime I've seen the view it's always been 3 vs 1 on the majority of the opinions. As much as Rosie speaks for people, Liz speaks for just as many if not more so (the ratio when there is 3 people from a "side" compared to 1).
I think Elizabeth is a nice person, and that just spoke her mind, the same thing you compliment Rosie for doing.
Whoopi filled in and then was hired to replace Rosie.

I said it a thousand times, this show will never last another 9 years without Meredith and Star jones. Its just not the same, sorry. The thing was to stay with the same people until the end, now its just too many ladies. I heard Sherri is leaving now in September. ABC doesnt want her.

That show ran from 1996-2002. This is today. I don't she would be as successful today. On her show she was very nice, on "The View" she was pushy and at times even rude.

Barbara Walters, whom I just cannot stand, showed no leadership as the "boss" of her show. She should have insisted Rosie come back . . . this is not what a talk show should be . . . . SHAME ON THESE BROADS.
Babs was right about this part; the exchange had no business being carried on the show. It should have been between the two of them, off-camera. Once they turned it into a public debate, the gloves had to come off.

The only reason I don't like this show anymore is because of Barbara's infatuation with Elizabeth. So many people come and go but Elizabeth says. I wonder why that is? I smell favouritism!
What a marvel---the view just got pounds lighter and yet is richer in net substance.
Nothing against Rosie, but I like the show alot more with Whoopi on it. It is at it's best right now.
It easy to target Elizabeth because her opinion is not the most popular. But looking at the facts, Rosie did leave, Barbara was her close friend. I do think it was inappropriate to have a 'screaming' fight on a show like that. Can't they act like adults, and question each other without getting so heated?
@JermzzzyFTW I agree with you. I watched everyday that year and Rosie constantly attacked Lizzy and so she had enough and finally defended herself. Theres just so much a person can take attacking you. Good for her. Even when i watched it felt uncomfortable because it was like a cat fight everyday. Eventually this was going to happen. Rosie started the year fighting with Trump, Kelly Ripa, unprofessional kokes towards people and at Lizzy. Their is no one to blame but herself.
Yet she played the victim and expected the entire world to defend her. She never defended herself. Still doesn't.

@redstrat8 The ratings did increase significantly when Rosie became a co-host. And the ratings are still good now that Whoopi is on.

Barbara is slim! She completely discredited herself when she tried to connect Palin and Weiner. That was just ridiculous. Even Joy called her out on that one!
I don't fault Rosie for not fulfilling her last 3 weeks. It would have been uncomfortable for her, the show and their viewwers. She has gone on to done marvelous things in her career,for the GLBT community,and for foster care parents/children. Sherri as her replacement will take some of the biting edge off the political topics with only Joy (and Whoopi) to hold the fort on those issues. Whoopi, like Rosie, being so strong willed will look like a bully. But she will do the liberas proud.

Lizzie was rude to the audience at the end. And she cannot force others to believe what she believes in.
Elizabeth, "...as have all of we..." What? Where did she go to school and why did Barbara hire her? I get that not all of the panelists over the years have been journalists but one should have proper grammar skills to be on a show of this caliber.
The View will be fine without Rosie and I for one am glad she is gone. I like Rosie but I dont feel that she (or anyone else) should be allowed to spew the kind of propaganda that Rosie was.
@mikemikester1 Why is it so surprising that Rosie got axed? She made a personal attack on Elizabeth on the show: she acted very, very unproffesionally. Yes Rosie did talk real issues but she didn't know where to stop. You can't just keep angrily attacking and attacking someone on a talk show, not only is it bad social conduct but it's awkward and ruins the theme of the show. I'm just as liberal as Rosie but watching her repeatedly shatter the nail's head was just uncomfortable.
Barbra made it very clear Rosie wasn’t asked. Rosie was frustrated and quit in anger.
Whoopi is a good mix in this dynamic group she should be the only one on the view the rest can go.

Rosie does have a right to free speech, just not a right to a public platform FOR that free speech. The networks are not required to air her ravings.
She is just angry. Her point of view is skewed by her anger and not grounded in logic. She may beleive what she is saying, but she makes herself appear foolish by speaking before she thinks.

Unlike other Liberals in Hollywood, she's VERY clear thinking, intelligent, and thought provoking, even though I agree with 1% of what she says. She's the oposite of Losie O'Donnell...er...I mean Rosie, in almost every way.
