i liked the less expensive dress better. she had a glow in that one. the one she chose was almost identical to the one her mom said she looked like Big Bird in. also, the less expensive one matched the shoes better.
I think she made a choice based on her mother's like and not hers. Brides need to remember that it's their day and their opinion showed weigh more than anyone else.

But both my mom and my other sister could feel my dad's presence there saying to them that that dress was the one he wanted her to wear. In that case, I would definitely spend that much money for the dress, other than that, nope

No regrets and it been in a box for over 48 years. I think it was a good choice. Someday I'll add up all the receipts to see what I paid for my wedding. My mom paid for a cake and rented decorations. The photographer ate most of the cashews. Most weddings were not as extravagant as today.
Me too. I was lucky enough to be in another country so we could do whatever we liked without any family pressure. I had a beautiful dress made, we went to a nice restaurant for a meal and had a big, self-catered party in the evening. Best wedding I ever went to!

At that point, it was almost guaranteed to be a Pnina (which I hate), so I stopped watching.

That blank check could be used elsewhere in the wedding expenses. I would still buy the dress I adore and buy it myself. I would want my mother to like my dress but at the end of the day I would want to feel confident and happy walking to my husbands side.
