Nice picture!!! Literally, just found out about Cas Nova 2021 right before watching your video. It’s exciting and I can’t wait to target that region myself!
Hello Tim. Just a clarification: the "supernova" is actually Nova Cassiopeia 2021 (V1405 Cas). A supernova in our own galaxy would be on the front page of the newspapers... they are very bright! :)
Great Vid. I've always thought Astrophotography way over my skill set. But your vid has encouraged me to reevaluate. I have multiple Svbony eyepieces that perform amazingly well. Might have to add this little jewel of a tool.... Thanks
Danke für die review! Ich spiele mit dem Gedanken mir dieses Guidescope zuzulegen, aber der Preis macht skeptisch. Nin weiß ich aber bescheid und es wird bestellt. 👍
I have the exact same 50mm Svbony for over 2 years now. The lens is a cemented Fraunhofer acromat and has a helical focuser. It is very well made and does the job like any other. Because its a fast acromat I suggest you should use a "minus violet filter" like the Baader Fringe Killer to tighten the stars and supress the fringing. This is very important when guiding.
@@AstroAddict You missed the point. You can't run a fast and cheap acromat with a dedicated astrocam with no UV-IR filters. No matter if it is color or mono. Preferred is a stronger UV cut under 420nm. Otherwise your stars will bloat, fringe and guiding will jump around.
Yesterday my ZWO 8 positions filter wheel arrived; before that I had the mini version so from now on no more changing filters but hope for many clear nights. Regards Frank Bogaerts Belgje
Just looking at the preview window in PHD2 it looks like that guide scope is pretty much as good as the Evoguide if specifically used for guiding. I imagine the Evoguide is a generally better scope if used for visual or imaging but for guiding it's about the same.
True story: Until around the year 2000, Rolex watches were assembled from components that were purchased from manufacturing companies, who also supplied every other Swiss watch maker. Literally made from off-the-shelf parts. That £20k Rolex you lusted after (maybe) is made from the same parts as a £50 watch made by some unknown watch maker. There's no doubt in my mind that this is happening with many other things, guide scopes included. Svbony and Omegon are literally selling the same scope, at different price points, targetted at different buyers. Omegon, Asair, Risingcam... they all come out of the same factory. I wouldn't be surprised to find that ZWO's cameras come from that same factory too :D Of course with ZWO you get better software, better support, they sell other products that tie all their cameras into their ecosyetem, so you are getting more for your money. But if you just wanted a camera and a driver... ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
You should give PA with sharpcap pro a go. It is a great cheap alternative to polemaster and it just works. Also, doesn't your LX not already cover OIII? Just use the channels it is in and throw away the Ha?
Thank you for the information. I purchased the same guide scope. How can you get the focus correct? I have a ZWO 120 mono and I can’t get a food focus.
Great review, thanks! In order to use this scope as a RACI finder I will need to buy a diagonal and an eyepiece (e.g. SVBONY SV152 1.25 Illuminated Crosshair SWA 70 Degree) separately, right?
May 27 I also captured the bubble nebula. I noticed that same supernova in my photograph. But I was not aware it was actually a supernova. Do you know what its designation is, or have a web reference?
I've just bought a guide camera and looking to buy a svbony 30mm scope. Is there much difference between the 30mm and 50mm? ( And please no one say 20mm)
Being a dumb a$$ is part of being an astrophotographer. You are not alone. People think intelligence is on a scale that goes from dumb to genius, but that is not correct. Each person has their own scale from 0 to 99 for smartness, and another scale for their inherent stupidity. Astrophotographers are high on both scales. :)
I’m wondering why you ordered a O-III instead of using the L-eXtreme and strip the G and B channel from your 294MC pro? Any reason to use a dedicated O-III if you do not pair with a mono camera?
My SVBONY guide scope was a piece of $h1t. Sorry but thats the truth about my experience with this product. I know exactly how they do it. Mechanically and optically its cheap cheap cheap, just Chinese rubbish. The stars wouldn't focus properly and were completely abberrated. Cheap bonded doublet lens and cheap hellical focuser. Lucky for me the supplier took it back and I bought the Skywatcher ED50 instead which is in a completely different class for only 60 Euros more. Your own guide star looked soft and astigmatic??? Buy cheap = buy twice!!! You have been warned.
Skywatcher ED50 $275.00 U.S. Svbony SV106 50mm $70.00 I can't come close to 60 euros more in the states. That would mean the skywatcher would be almost double or $142.32 U.S. That's just not a reality over here. Wish it was, for sure.
I love when someone uploads a review about something Im about to buy 😆
Been using it with my 120mm mini and it’s worked flawlessly for months for guiding my 430mm FL
I bought this guidescope last year and was very impressed with the build quality. Worked flawlessly with my setup.
I have reviewed a few products from SVBony. To me, they sound like a genuinely good company that produces reasonably good quality with good price.
Great review! I also think including mistakes you made in the video makes it so much relatable.
Ahhh, that O3 filter. Explains the rain here in the eastern US.....Well done video man!
Sorry, should've warned you😉
No shit.. I'm buying this tonight. First video on UA-cam. Tim , love the videos . Your a great help to me .
Use the 60mm version with a ASI120MM-Mini. Absolutely perfect, can get 0.4" RMS total error on most nights with my AZ-EQ6-GT.

Great Depth Review!! The Image of The Nova Cassiopeia looks Really Great!! I think Its Getting Brighter and Brighter!

Nice video Tim. And lovely image at the end (and how cool to be able to image the supernova)
Great Vid. I've always thought Astrophotography way over my skill set. But your vid has encouraged me to reevaluate. I have multiple Svbony eyepieces that perform amazingly well. Might have to add this little jewel of a tool.... Thanks
You can do it!
Excellent Tim! Looking forward to see the 'big project' :-D
Great video Tim! Very well done :)

I've been pretty happy with the Svbony products I've purchased so far including the SV503 80 mm.

Since my guiding would work for a 2000mm scope, no

@StigLeivo I know this is old but I hope you know by now this isn't true. PhD2 works better when the star is slightly out of focus.
I use the svbony 30mm guidescope. It's does well I guess as I haven't thought about buying anything to replace it.

Tim, I think a mono cam with that rig shooting narrowband would be great. Great video.
Yes, but a mono cam also goes great with your wallet
Too true. I sometimes think it would have been better to take up snooker as a hobby. Just have to buy a stick 🤣

Yes it does, but a dedicated filter will still yield a better result. Since the extraction of HOO is just an algorithm
hey...you mean i'm not the only one to screw up a night of imaging? thanks for being honest Tim, it's refreshing.
It IS refreshing😁
I got the 60mm version a few months ago and paired it with the zwo 120mm, works an absolute treat.
Got the same and I get fantastic guiding.
can you tell me what are your settings on the svbony to achieve the right backfocus?
Put in a guide cam that has at least one extension adapter
@@AstroAddict OK I'll try that. I will put the extension on my 120mm. thank you

earthsky.org/todays-image/v1405-cas-nova-in-cassiopeia-how-to-see/
Is this the same scope as angleeyes and all the other noname scopes out there?
What's the advantage of a guide scope over the cheaper solution OAG?
I have the Omegon 60mm
I'm looking at this guide scope and a svbony sv503 80mm.. any chance you might review it. Very similar in size to your main scope..
Let's see if SvBony makes an offer :)
I've just bought a guide camera and looking to buy a svbony 30mm scope. Is there much difference between the 30mm and 50mm? ( And please no one say 20mm)
I have the Sky Watcher AZ-GTi mount in EQ mode. Can it track with a 400mm lens on a crop sensor without auto-guiding? I've had success at 300mm.
There is only one way to find out. Or do you need to buy that equipment first?

if you have the chance to review the SVBONY SV503 telescope 560mm would be appreciated, like to know if they worth the buy
Let's see if something else arises👍
Hmmmm the Veil nebula maybe :)?
Nope. But that's a good idea aswell
isnt the focal length 190 mm?
Did i mess that up? Uh oh
I’m wondering why you ordered a O-III instead of using the L-eXtreme and strip the G and B channel from your 294MC pro? Any reason to use a dedicated O-III if you do not pair with a mono camera?
It will work better nonetheless. HOO extraction with the L-Extreme is just a smart algorithm, not a replacement
@@AstroAddict Thanks! BTW, I order the SV106, the 60mm guide scope from SVBony after your review :-p
You need to introduce your four legged assistant.
I did in older videos😉
@@AstroAddict That means I somehow missed a video. Now to go look.
What focal length were you using?
350 on the main
