  • Ann's resolution for the New Year is NO MORE BORING POTS! She shares three ways to TEXTURE COILS to create really unique pots. Check this one out!
    Answers to questions we get all the time:
    We typically bisque to Cone 04 and fire to Cone 5-6
    Ann uses Standard English Porcelain no. 365 unless specified otherwise in the video

    Ann, you come up with some very creative ideas! for some reason, I was expecting a handle on the last one you made with the wire wheel. It just said "pitcher" to me! LOL. Thanks for posting this.

    I really like those! The wash works especially well. That last one looks like old coral to me. It might go well with an ocean themed piece? Fun and creative, as always. Happy New Year! I hope it’s spectacular for you, your husband and your family.❤️🤗🐝

      HI Deborah. Happy New year to you you and your family as well. I like your reference about the coral. I hadnt thought about that but now that you say it, I see it. That gives me inspiration actually to create other shapes that are sea related with this texture. Thanks for that.

    Pots to me have always been pretty boring. And all the mugs. Augh! And the glazings with drips etc. look to me like a school kid messed up the instructions. I just don't appreciate art I guess. Your ingenuity and results are spectacular. Nothing boring here. Thank you again.

    Hi Anna! Have you ever tried to make a coral?

    • @annruel1982
      @annruel1982 5 місяців тому +1

      Hi Geeze. You know, when I was making the last piece I was thinking more along the line of furry than coral, but now that you put the idea in my head, I can see where that would be a good texture for a sculptural coral piece. Good thinking.

    • @Markbenwisch
      @Markbenwisch 5 місяців тому

      @@annruel1982 Ya, I thought of that corals that look like white trees. There are other artists that do corals, but not that one I have thought of. I just wanna see if its possible to create such thing although it's pretty difficult. So I often thought about a mixture of hand making and carving, because of that fine branches.

    • @annruel1982
      @annruel1982 5 місяців тому +1

      @@Markbenwisch Okay. I gotcha. Yes, those fine branches would be a challenge. It might make sense to make up a batch of paper clay which might be more forgiving as it goes through the drying and shrinking so you would have less chance of cracking and breaking. You should do some experimenting. Good luck!

    Where did you find the rubber ribbed mat? I really like the texture.

  • @chowfun1976

    I absolutely love your channel! I made the exact same bowl you made with coiling pieces of clay that were textured with the strings. It came out perfectly round when bisque fired but warped after glaze firing. It’s all wonky after glazing. I didn’t add a flat circular coil at the top like you did. Do you think that’s why it warped?

    • @LittleStreetPottery
      @LittleStreetPottery  13 годин тому

      There are so many contributing factors to why a rim warps in the high fire. It happens to me too - especially with porcelain! Could be handle placement that is pulling during fire, the unevenness of the clay, over working the clay etc. The glaze fire will expose all those issues. The addition of the coil can help if you let the coil set up to leather hard before you attach it.
