My new Shock N Awe weighs 23.3 ounces, after the silly lanyard is trimmed. The new sheath design is badass, with just a spike toggle safety, and the hawk then can be rolled out forward while back spinning it into hand and then throwing it.
Great vid! It is a little on the short side, and the resin coated para-cord is uncomfortable unless you wear gloves. I cut the cord off and replaced it with hockey tape. The only reason I carried it was due to it's small size, a bigger hawk seemed to always be in the way or snagging on other kit. And, I really liked the fact that it was one piece steel vs having metal bolted onto plastic.

I also bought a hawk made by another company known for guns, S&W Extraction & Evasion Tomahawk. one solid piece of 1070 high carbon steel. Its a beast. I took off the scales it came with, and wrapped it with paracord in a strider wrap... I recomend the S&W if you want a really good extraction/fighting hawk for an affordable price.... theres only one review of it on youtube. You should get it, and do a review. if you do, you wont be disapointed with it.
You made a very nice set of comparisons. We could see exactly how small this miniature Tomahawk is. Also I was impressed with sheath. This sheath is good if the retention is good.
Your question; "How you use it" ... well....play with it. YOU figure out just hold many grab, pulls, holds, come-along's this design allows......ALLOT! Stick the pike in your nose, an ear, an eye and in ones mouth-cheek, armpit or crotch and begin to turn / rock the axe face this way and that way paying attention to precise leverage... its 'Fulcrum Point'' in relation to axe edge, the pike and handle stem .... right off you will see just how effective this little beast becomes. Notice how the 'beard' cutaway shape fits directly about an opponents wrist to trap and move him. IF those measurements/distances were off even a bit then these abilities simply would not be present and this Hawk would then be no different than any other on the market. The shape and distance from one business end to the other is quite remarkable. Compare side by side photos of other smaller combat axes and right off see the key differences. This is an incredible 'multi-force multiplier'' . Ive seen dozens of hawks with the exact same components ...yet... the placement, the distance., the angles built into those designs DO NOT allow you nearly as many trapping and holding, pulling techniques. As small as it is...it works exceptionally well. This Hawk truly shines... ONCE YOU DISCOVER ITS DESIGN advantages when atop and adversary's arms or legs etc etc. Im most curious to know if Browning is even aware of just what they have made ?? But its for real once its in your hands and you start to work it. Yes, when discovered ... I did buy another.... NO I do not have an invested interest with the designer nor browning. I do recommend this tool allot.
El Rico exactly. Just compramise the kangee t-hawk: the browning has a lot better shape for hooking and trapping and that is one of the important things at a hawk for me :)
Im thinking its more expensive because its thick and strong, and is one solid peice of high carbon steel compaired to the SOG, and Cold Steel hawks. I like the SOG, and CS hawks, but I bought the S&W because I knew it would last forever, with no worry about the handle breaking. But this Browning Hawk looks like a good choice too, only a bit too small, like you say in the video.

I've been interested in that hawk. I did wonder why it was more expensive than SOG and Cold Steels competing hawks, especially since S&W knives are usually less expensive. But I do want to try it in the future.
I have the folder, but I wasn't too impressed with it because the handle scales and blade finish just felt really cheap in person. Someone told though that the fixed blade is better.
i have this, i like it. it could do with a little more weight at the head and the sheath absolutely sucks, within about 2 months the sheath had weakened to the point where it was falling out when it was supposed to be completely secure. and people dont seem to think about how much the slightly curved spike can be useful
Hawks became popular in the military because of their versatility. The main thing they have to consider in battle is penetration. You could try your damnedest to get a knife through a car or a thick combat vest and most likely fail. With the hawk you can disabled cars in many different ways as well as have the multi-tool survival. You should check out car disabling videos.
Very good review, bro. I agree with your conclusion on it 100%. Looks really slick and compact design-wise, but since it's so small, it kinda loses it's advantage as a hawk I guess. It's hard to picture scenarios where it would be preferable to a large knife

Just purchased one for Christmas. I was looking at RMJ's but the price tags on those suckers are much to high for me. I was looking at the M48's but was concerned with the head getting loose with use over time and wanted at solid construction hawk and something small enough I can take with me back packing and not get in the way. This one looks like it should do what I need. Just wish it was a little bigger and lower on the price. But over all, I'm happy with it.
agree with the rest, however I think this is an awesome axe/tomahawk for the pack, yes it does fall out of the kydex sheath. i will be using the heat gun on the sheath. it is sharp and is easy to sharpen.
If I'm not mistaken, Jared wahongi designed it with Kali/escrima in mind ( he seems to be a legit authority on Philipino & Maori combat) and not as a bush/camp axe/hatchet, what is good for making kindling is not necessarily good for martial arts.. it's like comparing a 1000cc cafe racer moterbike to a Harley, different market for a different crowd...
I don't like to argue about everything, but saying a same length knife is a better weapon? A knife is lighter, and thus is better for fast attacks, but with an axe, you have big momentum, you can use the back to stun, and with proper technique, it is good for "blocking". But to be honest, in a fight, where two men use similarly short weapons, the one who causes the bigger damage, wins. And there comes the spike! a thrust is far weaker than a swing with a spike. So don't underestimate it!
if your getting started there is a mid ranged one the cold steel trench hawk it is plenty good at all of those i love mine and i have much more expensive ones too
hawk has hooking aspects. swinging opponent arms aside. trapping. hooking behind the leg. behind the neck to bully an adversary about as you work. it can also choke up high to the head and be used as a knife to slash. these are kept razored. not for wood. cheers
It is pretty. I'll take the CS trench hawk. It would be useful as a general tool in tight places. It lacks lenght, and for an old man like me I need every posible advantage. Great to carry in the car for emergencies, probably could use it as a pry bar in a small area. I am sure you have the ablity to make that hawk do some wild moves, I,on the ohter hand, am too old and slow. Father time is catching up. Won all the battles so far , but I will loose the war. But the fighting has been fun.
I love tomahawk! The Fast Hawk is nice but i can't get over this one particular type of tomahawk. Is going to be hard to describe without being too abstract because I don't know the name or style of it, my derpness. The best i can describe it... All around more elongated head and 2 inch bit face. Very much similar silhouette as a U-Boat cruising above water but without the tower. Doubt that did it any justice but i tried LOL

I bought this tomahawk because of its size...a tomahawk is supposed to be short in length because otherwise it's an axe. I really don't understand why you keep harping on its size as if it is a bad thing. The weight is also a plus because when it hits bone it won't just stop dead and get stuck or break like a knife would. And why are you talking about finishing moves? This isn't a video game kid...in a CQH2H scenario you need a weapon that can eliminate a threat with one swing and be confident that the weapon will aid in your follow thru motion (goes back to why it being heavy is a good thing and intentional). You also don't want it to snag on your gear as you pull it out or engage in a small confined area. As a civilian looking for a bladed easily concealed weapon that can also be used as a survival tool in a pinch this tomahawk gives you the most bang for the dollar. Among my military vet friends who have spent time in urban warzones most of them rather carry a short one piece tomahawk that's weighted than a lighter combat knife that is really only effective on soft tissue areas of a target. In the end of all comes down to what function and situation you are going to use your blade and if that's as a back up to a firearm or a concealed personal defense weapon this is one of the best tomahawks on the market currently
Yeah it's an old video, maybe I was a little to harsh on the hawk, but 10.5 inches is still very short even compared to other CQB hawks, so a review should at least mention it and let people decide if they like that. I think very few people look at the more typical 13-16 inch hawks and think they should be shrunk to 10.5 inches. I just don't think that 12 inches, for example, would be over cumbersome.
btw: the lock is very effective, but a moments carelessness will result in a nasty cut. yeah, i got one. the hawk will pop out very abruptly. remember, grip close to the blade gives more control.

I prefer a heavy machete or kukri, because they give you more edge length to work with.

It could be used for throwing. No, the cord wrap gives it a pretty good grip already.

That is probably more adapt to the Espada E Daga knife system. They actually train with tomahawk along with the dagger and sword.

Yes, I think it has resin, much like the wrap on the James Williams knives, it is stiffened and gives a good grip.
