Good day, I was under the impression that the SEC had till the beginning of October to appeal? So why is the payment date so important if it’s in the next three days
If the SEC accepts the Ripple settle money does that mean they accepted the closure of the case or can they still appeal?
The theory floated is that appealing after receiving the fine from Ripple creates an exponentially higher risk to the SEC. If the SEC should lose the appeal after accepting the fine from Ripple, then the SEC would have to pay it back with interest. I also heard political reasoning, but suffice to say the payment going through is a good thing.

This should be obvious to even the slowest in the classroom.
Party A sends X cross border funds to Party B and they expect to receive X funds. Not some unknown quantity with a volatile asset.

What do you mean 'settle? The case has been over for more than a year, all we've been waiting on is the Judge to hand down a penalty for the one count that the SEC won for which the SEC asked for $2B. On the 7th of August the judge handed Ripple a $125M penalty that is payable within 30 days so yeah it's going to be paid in the next few days but in no way is this a settlement, it's a big fat nothing burger. The one thing that is outstanding is whether the SEC will appeal the Judge's ruling on the penalty (not the case itself), and for that we have to wait 60 days from 7th Aug.

That is nothing more than an opinion, and it’s not a legal opinion. So it is essentially not worth saying.
Thank you. Exactly. In no way are they settling! They won the majority of the case and they just have to pay a small (comparatively) fine for something they did in 2015. Done. The SEC has 60 days, until Oct. 6th, to appeal. THAT is when the case is finally over if they don't. Ripple paying the fine is completely irrelevant to their winning the over all case and being declared not a security. They are 100% not settling and the only way this month would affect the price is if total leveraged degens and MM jump in to manipulate public opinion, lol.
