My mother grew up in Amana and my best memories are going there to visit my grandparents and the rest of the family living there. Their house is now the Chocolate Haus! I guess if my grandparents are no longer living, having that house as a chocolate store is pretty cool!
I started watching your videos a few months ago. I love all the places that you have both shared. I grew up close by the Amanas and eating at the different restaurants such as The Ronneburg and Ox Yoke Inn. It's a fun place to visit. So many people bypass Iowa but I'm glad you made videos to share with others. Thanks!
Oh such wonderful memories of multiple visits to Amana growing up in the 60s & 70s! I remember being allowed to sip some of the yummy fruity wines, lol. Boy, have they grown in the 50+ years since I was there, lol.
enjoyed video. i live about 80 miles away from amana colonies and enjoy visiting there at least once a year. love restaurants, shops and especially furniture stores.
I have heard of the Amana Colonies, but never been there. And now I’m going! Thanks for sharing your experience and videos. I watch every Sunday evening. Wally
The Amanda Colonies - what an interesting place! Thank you for taking us on all of your adventures and for all of the valuable information. It looks like a great place to visit!
My wife and I really enjoyed the Amana Colonies the couple times we've been there, however, you went at the right time, not many people! We went in the summer and all the businesses are packed! Amana Colonies 2024 winner
Yes we lucked out with the crowds! If going in the off season weekends would give you a chance to have the museums open. We missed out on some of the history. Just have to go back. Thanks for watching.
Congratulations! You won the drawing for a one night stay at the hotel Millwright. Please email Lovenesteradventures@gmail.com with your mailing information. Thank you for sharing your experience and giving great suggestions and recommendations. Heading there soon for a ladies' trip! Looking forward to visiting the Amanas!
I grew up in the Amanas it was a great time I graduated in 1973 been back and vivited a few times but disabled now and very hard to get back again so your video reminds me of Home. Thanks and God bless you!1
My dad was from Homestead; his parents were both born in the Colonies, their 100th wedding anniversary is today, and their wedding photo is in the Museum in Main Amana.
As someone who visits here often, the Chocolate Haus is a must... it's so fresh! But for the BEST fudge, Fern Hill in South Amana wins hands down, and they do make it in house 😁
As someone who has lived with 15 miles of the Amana Colonies my 61 years I will say it’s not what it once was. There are a few decent places but overall has become very touristy which is completely not what the communal way of life that was originally intended. There used to be so many bakeries, meat shops and wineries during the 70s and 80s . The amount of stuff actually made in Amana anymore is small.
@crystaljames9455 I think it depends on how close you are. If I had to pick between pella and amana I would pick pella. If picking between des moines I would pick amana.
Don't care for the modern touch. Sure miss the old Amana Colonies when all of it was truly retro. So many restaurants/lodging have closed over the decades!!!
Are these people Amish? If so, have them show you how they treat their animals. Ask them what they do with the older ones that are bo longer "useful" to them. You'll change your mind about these hypocrites...
Amana Colonies looks like a wonderful destination for a vacation. 😘
@lorrainedempsey3320 It is, there is some really pretty things around christmas.

That is a lovely thought. I have to tell you the chocolate there is fantastic so now you have two reasons to visit!
