  • I traveled with a camera and a tripod more than 10,000 miles to get a glimpse of Antarctica and show the Ohio News Network viewers (1.7 million households) what is really happening at the bottom of the world. I got a very rare glimpse and full access to the US Antarctica program at McMurdo Station, South Pole Station and archive access the Ohio State's Byrd Polar Research Center. The buckeye state and Ohio State University both have tremendous legacies in Antarctica and I found Ohioans everywhere willing to help tell you how they are helping the scientific mission in Antarctica.
    This is a great teaching tool for students. It helps shows the broad disciplines needed to help make this science enterprise run. It speaks generally about the need to understand our environment and why Antarctica, specifically, is of such high interest to researchers.

    I spent the 62/63 season on Byrd Station Antarctica. Incredible experience. I saw the Ice in many places just like God made it. Survived a crash landing on William's Field at McMurdo.

    As someone who was part of the military Antarctic deep freeze program back in the late 70s, this was a all to familiar, having worked and lived there at McMurdo...however the landing runway, both the permanent and ice runway is allot further away today......it was indeed a memorable experience, having nicked out to castle rock for a good view of Antarctica only active volcano, mount aerabis....

    The cooks here are heroes. Bad food means people are discouraged to come back and it is far better to have the same scientists coming back because their knowledge in this specific field get better.

    Great video! Although I disagree that it is the world's last frontier. there are the oceans, which take up about 2/3rds of the planet, and only 5% of them are has been explored, as well as the vast jungle expanses, and many other places beyond our current reach.

      YOU ARE THE BIGGEST IDIOT I KNOW
      The area of earth closer to the equator is warmer than the areas further from the Equator. Because the earth is at a angle to the sun, because it's at an angle the sun dose stay up for half a year in Antarctica. But the wind is SO INTENSE, the temperatures don't go above 0 degrees F and I think you can guess what it's like During winter.

    • @Kreachie
      @Kreachie 8 років тому +1

      A Hellish Night most likely below 100 degrees K (Kelvin which is higher than F or C an average fall day in Louisiana is about 72 degrees F that's 295.372 Degrees K and 273.15 degrees K is 32 degrees F that's the freezing point)
      Now you see where I'm going
      I didn't mean to call you an idiot
      I'm Sorry. It's Flat earth NUTJOBS just get me pissed off I thought you were one of those guys and I just lost it. Until I had seen planet in there I'm now embarrassed that I Called you that.
      I'm a teenager who lost their mother when a drunk driver crashed into her car when I was 3. The only 2 people I hang out with on a regular basis is my easily Pissed off Dad and my Mentality Ill Younger sister. I see my grandmother and my uncle day to day but I only stay for a few minutes.

      I need to Socialize more, but my dad doesn't drive much anymore since a bad Doctor said he had high blood pressure (When he actually Didn't.) and put him on a medicine which instead of curing a Blood pump machine malfunction, actually gave him Hemorrhoids. Yep Bad Luck. And I also do school online and I do have friends from when I went to public school but they aren't on much. And the friends I have in the online school, we only speak to each other and we don't see visually.
      And also I have to babysit my sister.
      (I MEAN LITERALLY SHE'S A 1.8 METER TALL BABY! Who's 15 God Damn years old! AND SHE'S STILL IN DIAPERS!)
      My Dad also had Terrible childhood being the son of a Vietnam Veteran who was always pissed (He died on May 16 2012
