Another way to protect your arms/hands from any kind of tacks/nails/gripper strips is to use pool noodles or pieces of foam pipe insulation. Just slit down the center length and slip over each of the four sides of the frame.

Hi Sarah, Great idea! We've just posted two new tutorials... #5 is all about gripper strip frames: ua-cam.com/video/EbcHvXyZjVI/v-deo.html #6 is in two parts covering carpet tack frames: ua-cam.com/video/DBnml6VKgWA/v-deo.html and ua-cam.com/video/7ONNfSZmFn8/v-deo.html Thanks for watching!
Where do you buy the frames that I've looked at Walmart and Amazon and I cannot find a frame but I can find a hoop and I would rather have a frame that has got the Velcro on it how do I find that
We sell frames on our website or if you would prefer to make your own frame you can just purchase the gripper strips and attach them to your own frame. There is some good information on making your own frame inexpensively on the FAQs page of my website here: amyoxford.com/pages/faq I hope this helps!
it should be noted that unless one puts her hand between the gripper strip and you fabric backing, the grippers like eating your loops out of the backing fabric. this applies to the moving of your canvas (monks cloth, etc.) or removing it off the frame. no, the loops are not really eaten!!
Hi Vicki, Thanks for your comment! Yes, you do have to be careful when taking your rug off any kind of frame and especially off a gripper strip frame! My next three videos in the series are 1.) Stretching your backing on a carpet tack frame, 2.) Stretching your backing on a gripper strip frame, and 3.) How to move a rug on a both kinds of frames.

So useful for a beginner. Thank you.
So do you put the cover over the frame after stretching your material?
Love your videos Amy. When you have finished your rug, do you ever glue the back?
