Good Morning! Just wondering who your instructor was under Taika? I was one of Jim Logues senior students and a member of Oyata Shin Shu Ho. Is Hidden Teachings Mike Klines dojo name? Hope you're doing well! Chuck
Nothing will replace an explosive punch. Way to honor that! Excellent work on your videos. Congratulations on keeping the Hidden Teachings Dojo strong. 💪💪💪 -Ormaza
Howdy! I am pushing 70 years old and lived in Asia almost 50 years. I lived on Okinawa and studied with the so-called high Masters of Shorin Ryu. One Master particularly disliked Chinese martial artists and had a rabid racial dislike of them! JUMP! After figuring it out I went to TAIWAN FREE CHINA 1978. With Chinese letters of Introduction from my Teachers in California. Then I learned that these Okinawans sneaked off to Taiwan and paid huge sums of cash money to explain to them the kata bunkai that they never learned about and lacked the foundation. Yeah! Watching big shot 6-7-8-9 degree Black Belt Red belt “ masters” getting their asses kicked in GM HUNG’s old Di Wha Jieh dojo was shit loads of fun! Especially because I was a white American who was despite my eagerness to learn in Okinawa, was disappointed and dismissed by the arrogant Okinawan who pretended to know great “ secrets” but got slapped around silly by 2yr green belts in the Old Quarter
Thanks for the video, sir. While watching your it, a question popped on my mind: what would you advise, to hit with a vertical or with a horizontal punch?
All angles. Vertical, horizontal palm up, hooking, horizontal palm down, rotational twisting, etc. You can execute them all with this open hand punch concept. The more angles you train, the more weapons you have.
I can't ever imagen how a looser fist could be safer on the wrists/knuckles... Much rather stick to open hand which many don't know how to fully utilize.. Observe different mma hand striking & experiment on various surfaces & it'll start making sense.. Only fist striking I feel good about are back fists
Regardless of style/art, if you train on a heavy bag it's an alignment concept you can study. If you think about wearing hand wraps and gloves, all that material forces your hand into this exact position. This is just how I was taught to keep my hands fast and protect my wrists.
If you think about it, boxers have weakest wrists, BECAUSE they try to make that hard fist. That's why they have to wrap so much. And if you REALLY think about it, between the wrist wrap, and the padding of the gloves, you aren't making that same, tightly clenched fist you make sans wraps and gloves anyway. It's impossible to. So, IMHO, this profile of punching with the loss hang makes a viable argument! J/S. Be well!
@@JackBlack444 I have hit a heavy bag thousands of times I went on to study boxing up to amatur competitive level after my karate years ended and yes ofcourse you can hit hardest of all with wraps and gloves but you can hit very hard without them and with palms and slaps knees and elbows you doint need gloves , karate also contains grappling joint breaking throws what'd need gloves for ?
I assume they are. My only knowledge of JKD comes from reading Tao of Jeet Kun Do. I’ve never been taught by a JKD instructor so I can’t say. Do you train JKD?
Did Bruce Lee change the JKD punch structure differently from what they do in Wing Chun? Looks like the same vertical punch to me. That's a great question!
I trained in boxing for a few years not competing but to Amatur competitive level I agree with you hitting open hand is safer and Arguably faster I regularly practice open hand on my heavy bag ive also done hand conditioning exercises over the past several years just incase i decided to go the punching my opponent route I just always loved punching which is why I personally cross trained in boxing aswel as Okinawan karate 👊
It’s good to be skeptical and I understand you have no reason to trust me. I had trust in my instructors. If you don’t trust the technique then take away one thing: every bare knuckle punch you throw in the gym or on the street has a significant risk for injury. When you train, it’s easy for your larger muscles to develop faster than your wrists putting your wrists and hands at risk. Balance wrapped/gloved bag work with bare knuckle work. Hit both hard objects and soft objects and study the differences in your body mechanics. Be technical as well as physical but never one more than the other.

Hi Chuck. Yes, Kyoshi Cline. I took over Hidden Teachings 4 years ago. We certainly miss Tasshi Logue. All the best to you as well.

In Pa Kua and Hsing I the Open hand training is the highest level of all Ancient Chinese Kong Fu
Very good video. Great points. 🙏

Backlists can be very effective. Also, loose doesn’t mean weak or limp - but I understand the concept is counterintuitive.
Hammer fists can be very effective in they land clean
@@joeblogs-vx4ep Hammer fists aka girl punches XD
And break your wrist with boxing?

@@dion1582 no Man it's because they hit so hard. Have you ever punched a heavy bag.

I don't know man , it seems like you'll get your hand & wrist hurt, if you actually use that punching technique in the streets
