  • "My name is Felicity Hayes, Senior Traditional Owner of Alice Springs. Our families are recognised in both Aboriginal and Western law. Until now we have been ashamed to show people where and how we live. But it is time that Australia saw our reality and how we are treated on our own lands. It is 2018. How can we still be living like this in 2018. It is time to change what is happening, not just for us but for all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. Can we please start with housing and water and power?" - Felicity Hayes, Children's Ground Co-Director

Their living conditions are bloody putrid. How can the government allow this to happen? Get tradies out there and build them decent homes with water and electricity.

@@timbarlow7143 Fair point , I wonder if it was put to the department regards material costs ,there seems to be a massive amount of revenue,at least on paper, for Aboriginal help. Most of my stuff comes from local tips and by doing small jobs for trade, all the best ,cheers.

@@robertfonovic3551 What ignorant and prejudice comments to make about these traditional elders & owners without knowing the full facts and what’s really happening on the ground and in those communities 😳 Majority of the funding doesn’t even hit the ground to help the disadvantaged Aboriginal people it’s meant for, it gets spent and wasted on Management and Administrative costs, so the vulnerable and disadvantaged community people wouldn’t even receive a quarter of it to impact change.
Any payments given to Australian Aboriginals will never compensate for the genocide of over 50% of their population, Forced Government removal from their homelands into town camps and the Australian Racist and Controlling Government white man assimilation policy from the 50’s/60’s.

They could have a decent home, however the money is spent on drugs and alcohol.

@@mikesprigg5495 then they should have access to the same healthcare. Being aboriginal or living in remote parts of country should not affect access to medical care to treat addictions and mental health issues etc. Its base discrimination

@@heartofpuregold they choose to live in that area. It's not just lifestyle it's choice... the only discrimination going on is white people being paid less than them.

It’s a shame but if they looked after and respected what help and what they are given things would be different, the government has to spend money on educating on managing what they get not just keep giving to not appreciate and waste

" God helps those that help themselves " But without resources, none of us can do much . The resources needed in this situation are empathy , education , patience , acceptance , compromise and less talk and more action .

Aancestors did not have power .
We are not allowed to do plumbing on aboriginal land as it interfere with land rights policy , do a fact check and stop asking for things that you have already denied on you land rights .
