Thanks for these tips - I have a north facing front garden that is in shade most of the day as the house casts a big shadow. I didn't think i'd be able to grow anything there so really happy I found this video!
@@gardeningtipswithvicky 13 years ago I planted lemon balm at my son's house. It grew very well. I moved after getting married again and took a start with me. I have replanted over and over again. His has grown so well that he digs it and feds to pigs.
I'm really glad I stumbled upon your videos. I am a beginner gardener and I am learning a lot from you. I realize this video is a year old and I don't know if you will read this comment but I just want to say thank you for your content I have started gardening for a few reasons but mostly to help my grocery bill 😂 I want to learn to preserve my food from my garden as well but I guess it's one thing at a time 😊
So happy that u popped up in my Instagram feed couple of weeks backs ! Absolutely love ur videos and the knowledge what u have ! Last year I tried grow tomato and cucumbers and man…..that was heaven - so tasty and sweet and I felt like happy little child to watching everyday how it’s growing !!I got part of my garden in the shade and this video is great to help me what to grow in there ! I can’t wait for spring to grow more ! U r the best , u explain everything so easy ! Thank you !!!!❤
Last year, I grew parsnips in a bed that was full shade most of the year and partial shade a month or two at the height of summer. I had a great harvest. Cherry tomatoes will also do okay in partial shade as they don’t need as much sun to ripen unlike larger tomatoes. Thank you for the other tips x
I collect mulch in the Autumn to get dead Tree leaves and people clear their gardens out of old dead plants etc, and offen leave it out the front in big bags. So when I see any of this I take a couple of buckets out and collect it for the following Spring/Summer. Then crunch it up with my hands while it’s still in the buckets, indoors sitting on the Couch, there is a lot of dead plant matter in the streets this time of year.
I like the way you created your garden and all your plants, flowers, fruits and many more especially your variety of your tomatoes. Here in the Philippines not that much variety. You really maximized your garden with every thing that need to be planted. Mother Earth is happy for you 🙏✌🤣 also the importance of pollinations and the used of decompost. I like to have that kind of garden in our place. Keep safe GOD BLESS 🙏❤👍🇵🇭✌
Super helpful! The largest area of my yard is partial to full shade because of a MASSIVE cottonwood tree. Super happy to find so many options for my garden this year, thank you for making such useful content, it's really inspiring to try new things out!
I have just discovered your videos! What a revelation and so very enjoyable to watch. What an amazing vegetable garden you have in the heart of London! This particular video was so very helpful as we have a lot of trees in our yard and so more shade than sun! I will definitely start planting the shade loving vegetables and see how they thrive! Cheers and thank you so much! Maggie:)
Thanks for the tips and great video as always. Discovered the lettuce and radish growing well in shade completely by accident as they've thrived once my corn kept them in shadow.
Here’s a mulch tip. To move a large amount by hand forking it with a “potato fork” makes it very easy to pick up a huge fork full and move allot very fast. I can fill up a full sized truck bed mounded with mulch in under 20 minutes. It’s like a hay fork but way bigger with more forks closer together it’s like the size of a snow shovel but with forms.
I’m a new subscriber and I’m learning a lot from you! Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge with us newbies to gardening. I have the same amount of space for gardening as you so you’ve given me lots of ideas. And also, I love that you’re sharing your front garden with your neighbors. Thank for this I know know why my greens are bolting quicker than I thought they would. I’ll definitely have to move them I have a full fence in shade that I basically didn’t use because I thought my veggies needed full sun. Great tips thanks
thank you ,i have most shade im in zone9b too ,i always have more problems ,everything seams to take longer to grow this year im finally adjusting everything takes longer i did notice that starting my own seeds gives me alot more fruits ,im looking to add more fruit trees that i can add in pots to .
Great tips on what to grow in shady areas! My daughter has a lovely big Garden area with shade by the fence where they have blueberries and rhubarb - I recently began growing perennial kale, and that would be a great place for some!
Many thanks for doing this video. My garden is NNW facing and one complete side of my narrow garden is in the shade. So this was super helpful. What variety are your nasturtiums there really lovely
Thank you for your help and knowledge shared. I have come from raised garden beds and large produce to a complete barren small urban block and nothing 😢so this will be helping me.😊
Thank you. I am about to start my garden; I’ve just turned the soil but not sure which compost to buy. I am in RSA and want an organic garden. Any advice?
@@SpicyMoustache yea they are a bit invasive but we have a nice backyard and we keep them away from our vegetables and stuff. And the area where we have banana trees growing been thinking about some shade plants would look nice. I do appreciate the tip
Radishes ( i tried 4 times ) and brassicas didn't work on my shady balcony( 1.5 hours sun a day..maximum 2 hours) nevertheless I live in a warm climate...

Lemon Balm grows in shade. It’s perennial, great for bees, makes a wonderful lemony flavour for drinks and is supposed to be good for your memory.
Not always ..If you grow it hydroponically it thrives in shade, but in a soil it slowly dying😢

Yo thanks for this. I have an area with a lot of banana trees was thinking about planting some shade plants inside the banana tree bed
Also good idea to keep your water in shade. Sunlight stagnates water really fast and can breed parasites.
