Yes you saved our day! . We have the same garage door opener as you , yet we had already purchased the liftmaster 878. The graphic reference on the instructions indicated our learn button was red, but,,, here you called it purple. When we followed the instructions for the purple learn button,,, it finally worked!
Thanks for the step by step instruction. I went to my big box store, purchased one, and had it set up in no time. I wish I would have known about this years ago!
Thanks bud! This video 100% helped me. I just bought a new keypad and couldn’t get it to work for nothing. I was trying the way I did my first one from years ago. The new one was different, it have some extra steps. Anyway, thanks.👍🏾
Your video based on the instructions printed on the keypad door showed that the instructions printed on the paperwork in the package were wrong. I viewed your video only after wasting an hour following the wrong instructions. THANKS!! Works great now.
I was stuck with the keypad not working for a week. I finally found this video and got it to work first try. I have liftmaster la400; yellow learn button. So mine is press once. Thanks for this information.
This video was a lifesaver I couldn't figure out my garage keypad but I happened to find this video and you had the exact same keypad and garage opener as I did. Appreciate ya 💪
I tried something different and took the keypad off and brought it to the opener with the door shut and sure enough, it worked the very first time, Thank You for your concern. I would like to tell you something that you might have already picked up on youtube but it sure helped me when I found this out. My remote in the car stopped working unless I drove close to the garage and I would have to click it over and over sometimes the door would open and sometimes it wouldn't and then pretty soon my wife's remote started doing the same thing, I looked on UA-cam and found out that some LED light bulbs cause interference with the opener and so I went back to the incandescent bulbs and the Opener worked like normal, I guess some CFL's will work also. I went online and found out that Genie makes LED bulbs that have shielding so as not to cause that kind of interference, I also checked online and found another company that makes LED bulbs for the Garage Door Opener but they are very expensive. I just thought if anybody had put LED's in their openers and they started having this trouble now they know it is the bulbs, not the battery or the remote.
Robert Klein I’m glad you discovered your issue. I actually have a video discussing the issue with LED bulbs and even have a follow up recommending the Genie bulbs. Thanks for sharing that information here as well. People like you make the UA-cam community even more valuable.
After 11 years my keypad went out. I was going to have my garage door guy come over to install a new one. This saves me that expense and a $40 Amazon purchase will fix it!

Thanks for the great video! I have a similar garage door opener, and the previous owner never installed a keypad. I just ordered the 877MAX keypad from Amazon. Quick question: Will I need to reprogram the remotes in the cars?
TightWadRepairs I installed the garage door opener last night. It took me 10 minutes from start to finish, using pilot holes for the screws! It was so easy! Thanks again!
Caiden Thom Haha. Don't be ashamed. That's the same reason I never installed one until now! It's one of those things you really just don't think about.
The 877max keypad I received does not have a hole for the bottom screw. It is solid plastic at the bottom (no hole). It came with 2 screws for mounting. Just mounting with the top screw doesn't seem very stable. Is something wrong with this unit?
Ian W Great question. I don't know but I think you could get one keypad to work with both openers. The keypad simply emits a frequency based on the code keyed in. The keypad doesn't know the code for the opener. You should be able to set each opener separately.
I installed and programmed new lift master key pad on lift master garage door opener. However, now my remote doesn't work. So I linked my remote and now the key pad doesn't work with the assigned PIN. What do I need to do to get both to work?
@@TightWadDIY Quick question I did everything I was supposed to and I have a purple button LiftMaster professional formula one or formula I I still can’t program it not sure what I’m doing wrong can you walk me through again?
Ok, I don't know why I always assumed these had to be wired directly into the garage opener itself. Of course they're wireless. Going to install one tomorrow.
