Great tone and playing! I fell in love with the BB Preamp when I used it in the studio almost 10 years ago. I still own one, however, I currently have an Oz Noy AC/RC on my board. I wish Xotic pedals got more love!
One of my favorite UA-cam videos. So many great riffs. I love how the BB Preamp just gives you more without sounding like it’s own effect. I can never figure out why pedals like the OCD (a pedal to me that sounds like how you described “a blanket of distortion over your clean tone”) get so much praise but people sleep on the BB Preamp. I can’t wait to afford a BB Preamp and a Maxon OD9 Pro+ for a comparison. The treble and bass knobs are a huge advantage though.
cos bb preamp sounds good with good amps. Most people run expensive pedals into shit amps. OCD works with any amp but with a quality amp with its own gain, bb preamp is godlike.
The BB Preamp is a modified tubescreamer circuit with added EQ.. you can clearly hear that it also has a clean tone blended within the distorted tone... Like all TS circuits do..
Bought my BB Pre-Amp in 2007............sometimes I’m surprised I’ve kept it so long. Just one of those love/hate relationships I guess. Always thought it shined best with 6L6 high gain amp, clean amp & single coils, or stacking on top of a higher gain pedal for leads. Anyway.....great demo as usual.....thanks.
The tones you're getting are a perfect representation of the BB (my first ever Xotic pedal owned from the first year they hit the UK!) I would LOVE for you to have shown us what your original pedal sounded like with those settings!
Ha ha, I have had a BB on/off my pedalboad soo many times for more than 10 years. Ended up selling it 2 years ago, and now I realize I need it. There is just “something” with hat pedal :-)
Best demo of this pedal yet! wow it has a lot of headroom to drive the preamp section of an amp. It sounds fantastic just like you're playing. Thanks for uploading this. I'm sold! It's like a TS with an EQ and a boost pedal built into one pedal.
Great pedal and a delightful chap! I had an early example that had a gooped circuit board! It is a magic circuit for sure, and I echo all the great sentiments others have shared. Even the Caline Orange Burst copy sounds killer.
The one pedal that I've never parted with or ever will, is the Barber LTD. I've had that one for about 15 years now. Several OD, boost and distortion pedals have come and gone, but the LTD will be buried with me. Oddly enough, I have yet to try the BB, so it will be on my radar to test at some point. I only use the LTD and nothing else. Awesome channel and tones!
Killer heavy drive tones, bro! Not beehive, buzzsaw metal; just warm, organic, modern, aggressive tones with note separation and clarity. It’s a big compliment I’m paying you because I typically don’t listen to that kind of music. 🙂
That thing adds some shine to everything! Great demo of it! I've been curious since seeing it on your board. I really dug it! That tone on channel one of the 5150 was nice and mean. That channel is so under utilized. I've gotten some solid tones out of it! Good stuff like always man! Killing it recently. Tons of great riffs and tones!
I've got the same relationship with my JHS Klon. It's been on my board for just over 10 years now (I had to look back and see when I originally emailed Josh about having one built as they never advertised them on their website) but yeah. October of 2009. While it does impart some character on the sound, it really just takes what tone is there and just makes more of it. It's the "Give me more of that and make it better" pedal. The only amp it really seem to help out on is the Mesa Studio preamp but one could argue that the IIC circuit doesn't need any help. I've had my Dunlop 535Q wah pedal though since 1998 and my Boss CE5 since 99. Unkillable.
You always have the most amazing tone !! And I find your rhythm to be so amazing. Love hearing you play !! Also can you please tell me the song names ?
Thanks! Alice In Chains - Put You Down Dinosaur Pile-Up - My Rock N Roll Smashing Pumpkins - Drown Some bluesy thing I heard Tommy Emmanuel play a long time ago Turbonegro - Hell Toupée Some random riff I came up with to show the old vs new pedal Power Trip - Executioner’s Tax Led Zeppelin - Ten Years Gone The Verve - Star Sail
Thanks a bunch. It's a 2007 Classic Custom. I made a video all about that guitar if you're interested. Check it out here: ua-cam.com/video/vWsmFhKKA1E/v-deo.html
Thanks! Never tried with with a rockerverb. I do like those amps though. It's been a long time. Would love to try to get one on the channel. Thanks for watching!
I just bought this pedal a few weeks ago and it’s already my favorite. Adds something special in every situation. Is there a difference between the white knob version and the black knob version?
If you check out 5:32 in the video, I go between unboosted, the new version, and the old version. They sound identical to me. All of the clips in the video are with the new v1.5.
Chris Rogers Original version (orange) has more compression. Newer (red) more open. Andy Timmons actually requested his signature model be based on the original.
between the pre 2007 and post 2007 there is a notable difference when you move the gain control, in the pre 2007 there is more compression due to the cut of 2 diodes and in the post 2007 versions there is less compression (4 diodes), a little more range clean and volume. With the gain at 0 you will not notice any difference. Anyway, just with Gain at 0 and Vol max it's amazing how you can push marshall style amps \m/
Nope, they're the stock Creamback H75's. Full signal chain in the video description. Thanks so much for checking out the video! celestion.com/product/g12h-75-creamback/
That's "Ten Years Gone" by Led Zeppelin. Great tune. The strat is an old Squier with a Duncan 59 in the bridge. Nothing too fancy. Thanks so much for watching!
I think the all black pedal is the Bass version of the BB Preamp. If you check out 5:32 in the video, I go between unboosted, the new version, and the old version. They sound identical to me. All of the clips in the video are with the new v1.5.
Depends on the guitar but I've always been a big fan of the Seymour Duncan JB/59 combo. Bareknuckle Mule, Lindy Fralin single coils, Lollar Imperials, etc. The stock Gibson Pickups in my LP's sound pretty cool.
Insane riff choices as always, Put You Down is hot!
Love that tune! Thanks for watching Edgar!
Nice tribute to Riley , Im sure he is looking down smiling at you brother , kinda choked me up , way to go Zach
Rest in power
Great tone and playing! I fell in love with the BB Preamp when I used it in the studio almost 10 years ago. I still own one, however, I currently have an Oz Noy AC/RC on my board. I wish Xotic pedals got more love!
I love this pedal. Your tone and playing are amazing man 😎 also your gear 😜 love the pedal with JCM 🤘🏻
Best and most honest tones and gear demos on UA-cam IMO.
Thanks so much Ryan!
Always a pleasure! Magic playing, amazing tone, you always put a smile on my face!
Thanks Marco!
My Rock and Roll! Love the Dino Pile Up riff. And drown, that was awesome. Great playing! I think I may have to pickup a bb preamp

Yah I hate that about TS pedals, hearing the clean tone blended with distorted tone…..
Smashing Pumpkins "DROWN"
One of the best product demos I've ever seen. You displayed to perfection what it's capable of.
Holy faaack that Power Trip riff sounded immmenseee!
Always in love with your tones man, keep going 🤘🏻
Thanks a bunch!
You played my favorite Pumpkins song and my favorite Zeppelin song. Sounds killer as usual!
Thanks so much!

Beautiful playing on Drown! Haven't heard that one in a while. Looks like I know what I'll playing now, thanks.
Wow! The Verve on this demo! Nice.
Thanks for watching Fernando!
One of the first pedals I ever bought was BB+. Still have it and love it. Also the Dinosaur Pile Up riff was a very pleasant surprise. :D
Right on! Love those dudes.
The tones you're getting are a perfect representation of the BB (my first ever Xotic pedal owned from the first year they hit the UK!) I would LOVE for you to have shown us what your original pedal sounded like with those settings!
Check out 5:32 in the vid. There's a back to back comparison. They sound the same to me.
Got it one recently. Really versatile!!
Thanks for making this, dude. I actually rebought the BB after watching again.

It has a lot of output. Not headroom.
Man I fucking love the pumpkins.
Great riff choices, I’m sold
Right on! Thanks so much for checking out the video!
Gotta say I enjoy the variety of riffs you play in these videos. You certainly nail every tone.
Great pedal and a delightful chap! I had an early example that had a gooped circuit board! It is a magic circuit for sure, and I echo all the great sentiments others have shared. Even the Caline Orange Burst copy sounds killer.
GORGEOUS GIBSON PRETTY AMAZING
Man, that riff at 5:32 is awesome. Love those chords. And dammit, I think you just sold me yet another overdrive!
Thanks man! Just noodling around.

Love this pedal i ve been using it for ten years and its neve rleft my board. Its my main drive pedal
I've been meaning to get this pedal since I noticed you using it in most of your videos.
Playing My Rock n’ Roll by DPU 🔥🔥 absolutely love it dude.
Hell yeah, love that tune. Thanks so much for checking out the video!
Nice Power Trip
and ten years gone. i really take your videos a bit like a reminder of which cool riffs are still out there
That thing adds some shine to everything! Great demo of it! I've been curious since seeing it on your board. I really dug it! That tone on channel one of the 5150 was nice and mean. That channel is so under utilized. I've gotten some solid tones out of it! Good stuff like always man! Killing it recently. Tons of great riffs and tones!
Thanks man! Yeah. I'm a big fan of the Rhythm channel on the 5150.
Riley Forever
Bought one yesterday! thank you for a great video!
Awesome! Thanks so much for watching!
Nice playing. Subscribed.
Thanks so much! Appreciate you checking out the video!
One of the most underrated overdrives out there IMHO. Also, what pickups are in the strat?
It's got a Seymour Duncan 59 in the bridge and the stock Squier middle & neck pickups. Thanks for watching!
Killer ton... everything!
All of those Yesterdays...
Thumb up for the great Power Trip riff ;)
Right on! Love those guys.
This is a sleeper overdrive, doesn’t get the credit it deserves. I’ve had mine for 7 years now
Might have to pick one of those up!
In every video your tone is big and full! Do you always use that Suhr cab? Creamback H75? Do you use IRs sometimes?
Trying to decide between this and the Xotic SL. Decisions.... Great sound samples and playing.
Great sound
Gotta ask, how do you get the strat sounding so twangy with a humbucker? Sounds awesome
damn this is fuuuuckin TOOONE CITY
Fuuuuuu***ing hell! What an Sound😳
Hah! Thanks so much for checking out the video Marcel!

gonna dust off my bb now and try some of your settings
Andy Timmons is going in my mind with theese pedals

Excellent riffs!! What’s the bridge pickup on the red Strat?
Thanks! It's a Seymour Duncan 59 in the bridge.
Sounds great. Ever used one through a orange rockerverb mkiii? Do you like rockerverbs?
Thanks! Never tried with with a rockerverb. I do like those amps though. It's been a long time. Would love to try to get one on the channel. Thanks for watching!
What’s the difference between bb preamp v1.0 and v1.5?
So... what's the difference between the black knob one versus white knob one? which one should I get?
Original sounds every so slightly smoother
By the way which camera did u used ? amazing quality
I just bought this pedal a few weeks ago and it’s already my favorite. Adds something special in every situation. Is there a difference between the white knob version and the black knob version?

The newer (white knob) version can run at 9 or 18 volts. The original can only run at 9.
What patch cables are you using Zack? Those look nice and low profile.
Those are Ernie Ball Flat Ribbon Patch Cables. Good stuff! Thanks for checking out the video!
@@ZachWish thanks I appreciate it and great video!
hi.. what’s the different of old bb and new bb?
Ooo I might have to try that boost! What’s your favorite amp of the bunch right now?
They're all pretty killer. The BE-100 Deluxe is my go to, but I've really been loving that 5150 II. Lots of great amps out there!
HEY I HAVE THAT SHIRT TOO
I COULD SEE THE FIRE
Great demo and sound, do u notice any different than V1 and V1.5 ?
Thanks! They sound & feel the same to me. At 5:32 in the video, I go between the old and new pedal. Thanks for watching.
Zach thats the big 100 friedman which model and im just about to buy a suhr cabinet do you have anything special in that cab for speakers ?
Thanks the BE-100 Deluxe Head. The cabinet has the stock Celestion Creamback H75's. Good sounding speakers. Thanks for watching!
Did u changed the speaker in your 2x12? Normally those speakers are creambacks, right?
Nope, they're the stock Creamback H75's. Full signal chain in the video description. Thanks so much for checking out the video! celestion.com/product/g12h-75-creamback/
What's the second song you play? Some pretty cool drop d chords there
That's "My Rock N Roll" by Dinosaur Pile-Up. Great tune. Thanks for watching!
Cool. Nice rig. Love that jcm and lp
0:03 Hi! Is there a difference between black and white subtitles bb preamp version?
They sound pretty identical to me. Check out 5:32 for a back to back comparison with the same settings. Thanks for watching!
Great pedal but the Bogner Wessex v2 kicked it off. The Wessex is that good!
Does anyone know what chords he’s playing on the Tele?
Have you ever considered make IR’s? All of your videos sound great and I would love to get some if you made them!
Yeah! I might give that a shot in the future. Thanks!
hi man, what’s camera did u using?
Any preference between V1 and V1.5?
7:27 what song is it? This strat sound great with humbucker on high gain, what specs?
That's "Ten Years Gone" by Led Zeppelin. Great tune. The strat is an old Squier with a Duncan 59 in the bridge. Nothing too fancy. Thanks so much for watching!
@@ZachWish 250k or 500k pot?
@@carlosg4537 500K. It brightens up the humbucker a bit. Need to be careful about making the single coils too bright, but it's a bit of a give & take.
Swing of the axe
Do you think it’s better to go with the BB Mid Boost or the BB v1.5? One has an extra band of EQ & one has the option of 18 volts.
Have you checked out the newer v1.5 black version? Is there a difference other than cosmetics for the pedal w/ white knobs versus the black knobs?
I think the all black pedal is the Bass version of the BB Preamp. If you check out 5:32 in the video, I go between unboosted, the new version, and the old version. They sound identical to me. All of the clips in the video are with the new v1.5.
this pre amp kicks some azz wow, it almost sounds like treble booster or are my ears bad ? Peace
What are some of your favorite pickups?

Do you run yours on 9v or 18v power supply?
Typically just the standard 9v. Thanks for checking out the video!
@@ZachWish thanks. I just got one of these pedals and it sounds awesome with my Friedman JJ Jr.
What riff is that at 0.38? Thanks.
Alice In Chains - Put You Down. The rest of the riffs are in the video description if you're interested. Thanks for watching!
@@ZachWish What amp are you using in that part?
I want it
Few may know it, but BB stands for Blues Breaker.... lol.... Andy Timmons has used one for a long long time, before creating his own signature one.
Bb v1 or v1.5?
I'm using the V1.5 in this video but I've owned the V1. At 5:32 in the video I go between the old and new pedal. They sound identical in my opinion.
@@ZachWish thanks
Thanks, not I gotta get one….. Dammit!

Cool video, and I love the SP, but a big muff it ain't.
Any one like any of the cheap clones?
It's a crime to write in "Comic Sans" on a 200€ pedal.
