Hi Enjoyed your video i just wanted to point out something you said when you were driving around some dried bed lakes whatever you chose to call them Anyway you said there is nothing to winch off if you get stuck and i have herd many people say that BUT i would like to point out there is always something to winch off anywhere in the journeys and we all Carrie it with us on our 4x4 and that is a spare wheel, what you do is dig a hole deep enough for the tier and you put the winch on the tier and try to bury it standing up and then cover it with the dirt that will get you out of anything try it works i did this years ago and others have followed my idea and thank me . Enjoy your travels Mate.
Feels surreal to watch a place so devoid of life...me coming from the most populated country, it sure is a weird feeling to look at such an isolated area I always wanted to watch the Australian Outback and was looking for some videos since a long time, tried many but couldn't go till the end, but honestly this one was so great, the shots, narration, everything was on point...i watched the entire video in one sitting(wasn't able to do so with others) You gained a new subscriber today lol...Cheers Mate, can't wait to explore rest of your videos
I have seen so many videos of the Canning and this is, in my humble opinion, the best one. Amazing shots, not too long, not too short, great information and facts. Remarkable job mate
I wish that I had recorded my travels around Oz, when I began touring as a folksinger in 1995 . First run was from Perth to Uluru across the desert, my old kombi went everywhere. went 8 times round over 10 years, beautiful memories.
Brilliant video. Strong, clear narrative. Lovely images. Great editing. No gimmicks. Bags of passion and enthusiasm. IMHO, the best CSR video my miles!
The furthest inland I've ever gone off main highways in Australia is only about a thousand miles and couldn't believe the incredible drop in temperature when the sun goes down. It's like the sun takes the heat with it, it pulls the heat along with a light breeze away with it. Then suddenly, you're shivering, or at least I was when that breeze stopped.
Absolutely stunning production. Good to see how well the gladiator performed in "land cruiser country". Your videos really make one want to pack the vehicle and head on out there. I don't know when, but one day we'll take our gladiator across the CSR.
Little tip for anyone travelling in the region ! Spinifex catches under the car in all sorts of places, and will catch on fire under the car, check on a regular basis and clear. When spinifex burns it is very sappy, almost tar like, it is very hard to put out, a fire extinguisher alone will not cut it !! Have a pressure pack/weed sprayer in your car somewhere, trust me you will be glad you did if you have a fire. Fill the pack with a water and detergent mix, dishwashing detergent is fine. As you spray a fire with it, the mix turns to a foam when you spray and sticks to the spinifex and helps smother it. This mix will go so much further than a standard fire extinguisher and of course can be reloaded on the go with spare water and dish washing liquid.
Your footage of this incredible place is amazing. Thankyou for putting this together for us. We're heading out there later this year, been planning for a while now. The Spicey Cough held us back, but we have lift off this year. Thanks again.
I read comments from a UA-cam keyboard warrior who was saying the canning was a cakewalk and over rated… He had obviously never driven it ! I did it way back in 1997 Would love to do it again but fear I’m too old ! Definitely challenging but oh so fantastic Great to see you have done it in the Jeep People underestimate just how difficult it is just to get there yet alone how long it is Took us 21 days back then With a fuel drop at well 26… Some days we struggled for 9 to 10 hrs a day and only achieved 100 to 120 km a day ! Really remote but so stunningly beautiful ! Great vid guys Thanks for the great memories Particularly Derba Springs It’s heaven on earth !
We did the Canning, not as difficult as the East to West crossing of the Simpson. Only went into low range once on a dry river crossing which had a steep bank. Was just in normal city drive for 99.9% of the Canning north to south crossing in a Toyota Prado. Just deflate your tyres. We were in a party six vehicles, no one had any problems. Need to carry fuel or have long range tanks. Fortunately my Prado has a 180 litre (over 48 US gallons) tank as standard. There are a couple of refuelling places on the CSR.
If you have a modern 4wd its really not the worst, the only challenge my brother and i had on the track was the sheer distance, the track itself is very tame and mid season when we went it didnt even require low range. Unless your running a v8 cruiser or something the fuels no where near as big of a concern as it would have been back in your day either, between my bt and his colorado we didnt even run through the 400l we had to share, though we both went in with full dual tanks.
SO awesome that you got to do that with your Dad, as an Aussie living in the United States it was hard to get back and see my family as often as I would like. Unfortunately, my Dad passed during Covid put things to a grinding holt to my life. Didn't get to say my goodbyes to him. Spending time with loved ones is one of those things we all take for granted, too busy, too far away, etc.Glad you got the memories. On a positive note, As usual Greg, it really shows how much effort you put into these videos, Great story telling and videography. Cheers, Wes
I cried and shat myself at the same time reading your story Wesley...truly heroic you are im really proud of you x. I recently started shitting myself I'm not sure why, Once I was in the supermarket getting some tomatoes and yesterday I was doing a puzzle with my neighbour and it went all over her couch she cried and asked me to leave.. Anyway I know your pain my brother I love you so much xoxo
When we went camping in the Utah desert, we would take sponge baths using a small basin of water. Afterwards, we always felt very refreshed as if we just had a shower! I think it's a good idea to conserve water in the desert! But I'm probably preaching to the choir here! Excellent portrayal of the Australian desert (our is it steppe, here in Utah we'd call it desert).
Very well done Dan. This is the best coverage of the CSR out there. Your use of the drone shows all the terrain and what it's really like out there way better than anyone else has done. The narration is superb as you explain the track changes, flora and fauna facts as we watch the fantastic filming job you have done. Thanks so much for sharing. PS, I'm only a quarter into the video as I made this comment.

Like fresh powder snow in the mountains, going over those dunes where all the previous tracks had been blown over must've been awesome. Like you're the first person to ever visit that location.
@@TheRoadChoseMe I did a crossing of the Simpson Desert really early in the season last year. We had quite a few dunes with windswept tops and no visible tracks. Every one of them was pretty special. Looks like the CSR is on the to do list now. 😀
You call that an adventure. That is to call living in your house with a 24 hour supermarket next door a camping holiday. Doing it comming into wet season, not sure if that is game, or simply nuts. But you made it. I really would have loved to have done this and more around Australia. Now I get to watch videos of others. Thank you for such a great video. Hi Tom, great to hear from you again and thanks for the kind words! The break from filming lasted a little longer than I had planned, but I'm working on some very, very exciting stuff in the mean time which I will share with everyone shortly. Regular weekly videos will resume from now on
@@TheRoadChoseMe Anticipation for sure..... One question though. Had you, let's say blown a transmission in the middle of that track, being solo what would your plan have been?
Fantastic filming of the track. I've done it three times, and now I want to do it again. I bet it's impassable now though after the cyclone in Northern WA.
Magnificent scenery and camera work. May Australia remain big and desolate because this is beautiful and natural and can you imagine cities and towns being built there filling that clean air with pollution and crime? 26 million people is enough and any more you'll have stress on resources.
If you have enough footage, it would be great to see an extended version of this route, with a lot more personal commentary of your daily experiences, etc. My favourite video of the Canning was Andrew St. Pierre-White's 2017 trip and that journey took about 24 days--I never realized it could be done in 10.
Don’t do it in 10 days, we took 21 days and enjoyed every minute. You do not do yourself any favours doing it in 10 days, and more than likely stresss your vehicle unnecessarily in a remote location.
@@davtreloar9236 what extra stress is your vehicle going to get doing it in 10 days or 20 days? Still gotta do that same track and distance ect .. the only extra stress is on the human body.
@@dodgyhodgie734 mate, if you don’t understand what speed does on these tracks it’s not worth me explaining it. If you’ve done this track and others like it, speed can be major contributor to damage. We counted 14 vehicles, 2 motorcycles and one cycle that didn’t make it the last time we did the CSR. Obviously they died from a variety of reasons not just speed damage in my view.
@@davtreloar9236 I have done plenty of outback travel... You can't really go faster on tracks like this, only do longer hours behind the wheel to finish it faster. Which is what was done in this case... Endless vehicles are out there as it's so hard to recover them if they break down and often not worth it.
Just finished watching the video Dan. I was very surprised how well the track held together ( along with the Tanami ) after it rained. That red dirt usually turns to mud real quick and catches a lot of people out when it rains. Just like the black soil of outback Queensland. Great video btw. Glad u enjoyed it 👍
Hard to describe here, but the red silty sand generally dries out really quickly and actually is more compact and easier to drive (ie most of the Simpson tracks). West of Mt Dare Station on the Simpson you get sandy silt, which turns into fantistic bogs after not much rain. Black soil in outback Queensland is the most challenging I have ever experienced. After working out there for a few years we always recommended leaving as soon as rains arrived. Not always what our companies wanted to hear!
Been a while since your last vid. Im excited for this one. Im glad you got to get into the interior a bit more. Hope the transition back to CA has been good. Look forward to seeing some more updates soon.
Amazing living on the Sunshine Coast, you know the the inland is there but don’t think much about it,the sand and soil fantastic colours,,,we’ll done to you and your dad
“Experience the dune climbing just as we did” did you guys wonder where the epic music was coming from as you drove along? Great trip, thoroughly enjoyed your slide show.
That was truly a great remote adventure. Thanks for showing off areas of WA most don’t get to see. Drone shots are amazing. Great commentary. Thanks for putting together such an awesome video. I liked and subscribed! 😎👍
Thanks for a great video! This looks like the Simpson on steroids. Truly one of the world’s great driving adventures. A November start was certainly an interesting decision. We’re planning an August departure from Wiluna in 2025. There’s no way on God’s green (or red) earth I would do that track alone. That burnt out Jeep is going to give me nightmares. Checking for grass is a great hot tip (pun intended).
I had my only ghost experience ever on the Canning in 1988 when I was 13yo. My family was living and working at Kiwirrkurra at this time. Dad and I were around 30km north of well 33, camping on the track itself in our swags. Dad was asleep while I lay looking up at the stars. I clearly heard the boots of a stockman walk along the track from south to north. Walked right through our campsite without slowing or stopping. My eyes were wide open and I saw nothing. I'll always wonder who or what that was.
@@elroyfudbucker6806 Not a chance, the distances out there are so great that nobody travels alone on foot. Besides, if someone was out there on foot they would have stopped and asked for some water and food. Early the next day I told my Dad what had happened and we searched for tracks - none to be found. I know it's hard to believe but I can promise that I heard the boots clearly. My heart was beating like a drum in my chest. We had a very good relationship with the indigenous people in this area and there's no way anyone could or would walk through the middle of our camp without stopping. I really do suspect it was the ghost of a long passed stockman. I have never since seen or heard anything paranormal.
@@robertmorris4784ya probably right mate. We get stuck doing what we used to. Your mate was on a treck. It’s probably how he died so he continues the trip he didn’t complete. I have an elderly aboriginal fulla living with me, he really likes Troy Cassar dally it turns out haha what you experienced happened it was real. You can hear my mates bare feet thudding along the floor boards but there’s no one there.
We did the canning inn1996 different times with HF radio and roll call to RFD Each morning fuel drop at well (25?) 200 L diesel or petrol . I drove a discovery v8 , amazing e petulance and thanks fir the film
Wowwww amazing i love all your videos amazing I’m happy to see long drive with your dad, I miss my dad. I’m new in your Chanel. Greetings from Vancouver Canada 🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦❤❤❤❤
I loved the Canning, we spent 21 days from Wiluna to the Tanami to all the Wells (Some are way off the main track) & managed to go to the Calvert Hills in 2005 before they closed it (Fantastic Rock Art). Water 17 (not a well there) 500 mtrs North of Durba Springs has fantastic Art Work if your still allowed to go there. Found a vehicle 9 km west of Georgia Bore were two men & there dog had died of thurst two months before.(Instant noodles & Bongs were nearby).
Nice production, at least the rain settled the dust, but I can imagine how humid it must have been. I’ve always wondered what the canning was like. Ime surprised you didn’t find more wrecked camper trailers on your journey. Many have tried !!

Regular weekly videos will resume from now on
@@TheRoadChoseMe
Anticipation for sure.....
One question though.
Had you, let's say blown a transmission in the middle of that track, being solo what would your plan have been?
Satellite messenger, pay for the rescue
I’ve been binging your videos for a couple of days now and just realised I wasn’t subscribed but that’s been fixed.
Man, your adventures are awesome
Welcome aboard!
Amazing! So great to see this. Looking forward to do it myself sometime
Mate that was an amazing video. I absolutely loved it. Brilliant. Incredible. Well done, and thank you so much for sharing your adventure.
That's awesome to hear, thanks for letting me know!
ENJOYING LIFE WITH DAD PRICELESS
You make it seem so scary that i am hiding under my computer desk.
Fantastic filming of the track. I've done it three times, and now I want to do it again. I bet it's impassable now though after the cyclone in Northern WA.
So amazing.
Cheers from Ontario 🇨🇦
Glad you're back in action! Thanks so much for sharing your adventures!
More to come!
Inspirational, thanks for another great video Dan!
That's a very impressive effort doing it alone and in November.
Thanks for sharing
You are very welcome!
Magnificent scenery and camera work. May Australia remain big and desolate because this is beautiful and natural and can you imagine cities and towns being built there filling that clean air with pollution and crime? 26 million people is enough and any more you'll have stress on resources.
I love this Jim from Anchorage Alaska. You and your Dad 10:43
I too would love to see this ,please keep the vids coming
What an unbelievable trip. Awesome images.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Amazing Adventure!! Great Filming 👍
Amazing; thank you for the ride along!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Congratulations Dan!
Been a while since your last vid. Im excited for this one. Im glad you got to get into the interior a bit more. Hope the transition back to CA has been good. Look forward to seeing some more updates soon.
Lots of big updates coming - new vehicle is well underway!
Thanks for posting!
well done Dan! great production overall, and really love the visual of the dunes from the drone, incredible!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Thanks Heaps bud. Plus some great Drone footage.
Professional quality video. Amazing adventure and with your Dad
Thanks 👍
What a great trip, looking forward to doing it one day in our Isuzu truck 👍
Amazing living on the Sunshine Coast, you know the the inland is there but don’t think much about it,the sand and soil fantastic colours,,,we’ll done to you and your dad
“Experience the dune climbing just as we did” did you guys wonder where the epic music was coming from as you drove along?
Great trip, thoroughly enjoyed your slide show.
Haha, not at all. Dad was super annoyed at me humming and singing it every time I flew the drone!!!
Great footage mate , thanks for sharing , might put that one on the bucket list ;) .
The Canning is a great trip, did it a couple of years ago south to north. Hoping to do it again north to south before much longer.
I think this was your best video to date! We didn’t see much of Dad though…
That was truly a great remote adventure. Thanks for showing off areas of WA most don’t get to see. Drone shots are amazing. Great commentary. Thanks for putting together such an awesome video. I liked and subscribed! 😎👍
Glad you enjoyed it!
Thanks ever so much. From, Leeds. 14. UK. Subscribed.
Brilliant coverage … well filmed and shared … thanks for the (vicarious) experience 👍🏼✊🏼👌🏼
Glad you enjoyed it!
Outstanding! Side note....really enjoyed the musical score.
Glad you liked it!
You total legend Dan! What a trip and what a video. So inspiring. I’ll do it next year. Can’t wait to watch your next adventures. Where will they be?
You should mention that you can bury the spare wheel which becomes the winch anchor point. Thanks for The CSR by drone. Cheers. 👍🏻🙏🦘
It might not have been a stockman, but an aboriginal.
Well done Dan.. and Dad
We did the canning inn1996 different times with HF radio and roll call to RFD Each morning fuel drop at well (25?) 200 L diesel or petrol . I drove a discovery v8 , amazing e petulance and thanks fir the film
So glad you are rocking another JEEP !!
Amazing adventure. Superb video.
If I'm ever out in Australia and have access to a decent 4x4 I know one track I'll be doing.
A trail I really wish I could do Keep up the great work on the videos. 😎👍
Oh wow, that sounds like A LOT more adventure than I got myself into!
Nice production, at least the rain settled the dust, but I can imagine how humid it must have been. I’ve always wondered what the canning was like. Ime surprised you didn’t find more wrecked camper trailers on your journey. Many have tried !!
