In trade school the classroom erupted as the revelation that the NEC (at that point) did not have color coordination requirements. We all used white for common and the hot leg was black on single phase 120volt. But that is not NEC, its just tradition thst compels us to follow. As long as some colored tape is used on the leg in the junction box to indicate its purpose, safety is retained from a trades point of view. I'm sure YT armchair electricians will voice their opinions but don't sweat it. I usually use a black permanent marker to write a small note on the inside of the cover if something is abnormal or if the other end of the run may be hard to find in the future due to overgrowth of plants, with a date of install.
I would stick to the color coordination just because I’m not an electrician and it would aid myself better. But from a professional stand point I can understand the rejoicing.
Our company used tape on black three phase. Some motors would wreak if ran the wrong direction. For safety purposes, green should be considered only ground, and I would paint the whole wire, rather than trust a small piece of tape. I took over a job, at my Church, where all wire was donated. The project was a large two story school. The volunteers who started the wiring, had a lot of colors, just not blk and white. Setting up hot and neutral colors, because they didn't have enough of any one color. I felt sick working on the project. And I plugged a work light, into a 120 outlet, and the bulb exploded. Turned out they had a 240 saw, with a 120 plug, and everyone, was just supposed to know. I wasn't psychic.
You should think about getting a perimeter shock collars for your dogs , then you could setup a wireless perimeter and your dogs will be semi free to roam around in a large circle, sounds a little mean but a lot less then keeping them chained up all the time , I dont think anybody heard you saying that you had the expensive green cables and you wanted to use them instead of buying more
I think I might have worked on a few of your panels lol. I was going to say label the breakers in both locations and write a note on the inside of the door.
One more comment Jim. I noticed that you still had the bonding screw (green screw) on the neutral bar. In a sub panel you separate all your neutrals and grounds, thus the separate ground bar. Remove the grounding screw, that way you are only bonded together at the main. This ensures that a short to ground goes directly to ground and is not slowed by neutral loads for an instantaneous trip of a breaker.
This comment is correct...nice... only bond at the first stop (main panel)... then forward the ground to sub panel via a ground wire from main panel to sub panel...
You are absolutely correct. Bonding is not always understood. So, just don't bond any panels but the first panel. Also I didn't see (maybe I missed) ground rod requirements and installation of them at each panel. Green ground wires for hot leg is scary but, .......
I guess ok. That is what you have to work with.
Well done you guys, great to see you so happy . It’s been a long time coming and it’s been a tough road . You guys are amazing .
Your new girl did look very sad on camera , please don’t leave her out of sight . I saw the sadness in her eyes . They need a whole lot of attention while settling in. She is beautiful . I take my hat off to you guys for adopting her. This breed is acutely sensitive and hunger for approval from there owners . God bless you guys
I'm new here and I have to say I don't know what is more impressive to me...you putting all this up on your own and seeing the excitement in your face for your accomplishments OR the electricians in the comments helping you out! Both are very cool. Congrats to you both. God Bless! ~Kelly
Remember folks, electricity is color blind. Always check your wires for power, especially if you have a Jim around. ;) You can always mask them with tape so no harm.
And there was light and a fan. Congratulations!!
JIM and JESS, good peeps! Two of my favorite people! So down to earth that they even went underground! I love you two! ♥️❤️♥️❤️♥️. You know you are home when the lights go on!🤓🥳🥳🥳🥳🌹🌹🌹
when you get the interior finished yo two are gonna smile 24/7. You two are a natural high! What a beautiful partnership!
You both have done such a wonderful job. the tenacity in building your own house without beating each other up is a major accomplishment.
Great job. Your smile makes me smile.
I LOVE the smiles over having electricity ! You two are so cute together. Thanks again for sharing you're lives with me .
I’m so happy for you all. Great job on everything.
You might want to hang a laminated sheet explaining the wiring in the shed under the breaker box. In case someone else someday has to do something with the electric.
SWEET. Almost like watching Tesla or Edison flipping the switch..... Congratulations. Job well done.....
What's amazing is the power is free from the sun. No Electric or water bills.
Big accomplishment getting power to the dome .
Keep up the good work.
You got yourself a real sweet pup.
Your excitement was contagious, thanks for sharing.
How exciting!!!! I can’t believe you did it all by yourself. Maybe there’s hope for Brian too. 😁👌🏽 Congratulations y’all!!!
Thanks Pam! I'm sure Brian will do a much neater and well planned installation than I did.😂
The smiles on your faces said it all! What a great milestone days!! Oh yeah! 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Congrats on having electricity in the dome! It's truly fascinating to see every step getting it closer to being a home. Looking forward to the exterior coat next! :-)
🎊 Congratulations!! That's a huge mile stone!!
What an exciting video, a huge step forward! Regarding how you pulled the wire, that's absolutely how Sam pulled ours for our mini-split A/C pedestal. He's very safety conscious, and I can't imagine doing it section by section. It was hard to pull the whole 50 foot length, but we got it done.
Congratulations 🍾🎉🍷Jim ...you did it ...Bravo ! Congratulations to both of you
for all your incredible work...Beautiful ! Greetings from Puebla, Mexico
I pulled 210 feet of 600v THHN the same way. Toward the end we were using a couple shackle pulleys and the weight of a car rolling downhill to add pulling power. You do what you’ve got to do, innovating solutions to problems as they appear. Good job. Surprised that you didn’t install LED lighting fixtures and longer pull chains on the ceiling fan fixture.
Have fun and stay safe out there. Wishing you a blessed week, gentle weather and restful evenings. Peace
You can always use pulling lubricant find it in electrical section of hardware store.
@@allegannews9256 I didn’t learn about pulling lubrications until several years later...
Jim,
Your right about pre-installing the cables while building out conduit (Super dangerous). As a professional, we will sometimes pre-install something called "Polyline Pulling Line". If we don't pre-install it, then we attach something called a "Mouse" (either a light foam plug or a cone-shaped cut-off corner of a plastic bag) to the end of the polyline. The "Mouse" allows us to suck the light weight line through from the opposite end with a shop-vac. Just some food for thought incase you ever have to run underground electrical to something else in the future.
Mad congrats on getting it working. This is a huge milestone for ya'll. Love watching your channel. You guys rock.
Jim and Jessica " you've got the power" ! 🎵🎶
Those Green wires give me the shivers! Make sure to mark both ends and a list where they go so it wont bite you in the future.
the two of you are the Authors of the magic, congrats on everything.
Wow great job, so happy for you.
Wow ! So excited about the eldctric and fan ! Awesome. Bit by bit, day by day you are moving forward ! Well done !
So happy 😊👍😊👍😊👍 so glad to see you have electricity inside the dome finally. I agree with you it's a milestone... So beautiful ❤️❤️❤️
So happy you have power. That fan/light is a beautiful sight to see. Congratuilations!
Congratulations. You've got the power.
YAAAAAAAAAAY ELECTRICITY in the dome at last !!!!! HUGE step forward. Now to get something protective on the outside walls !!!!!! I'd be heartbroken to watch the weather gradually erode all that hard tedious work!!!!!
This a wonderfull project in all aspects. A different approach in a industrialised world. There is an underlying element of peace and gratitude. Very tangible thank you for sharing
Aww I think we all smiled with you 😊
Congrats on the new electrical to the dome. It will make working on the interior much easier.
It is awesome to see and to see the light coming through those beautiful windows!!! 👍👍👍👍👍🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🌹🌹🌅🌅🎆🎆🎆
“Whirled” of difference!…👌🏻🍀(ceiling fan) way to go, y’all are such an amazing inspiration
Jess, you are beautiful and smart...Jim, wow, you guys have taken on SO much these last few years and NOW...you can see it, touch it, believe it is GOOD, Nice job guys! Hugs to peeps and pups.
Excellent!!! How wonderful. I’m so happy for you guys.
And then there was LIGHT
Yall are moving right along in the completion / finishing up the dome , it's looking great and now you have power , can't wait to see the rest your going to be doing .
Thanks for getting me motivated today. You guys are a nice part of my day....
You guys deserve more kudos than you give yourself...it has been fantastic to watch your journey and cheer you on..
Just touched the like button and it went from 2k to 2.1k. 😃 That was fun! Congrats on your milestone with having electricity in your home! Looking forward to the interior process. Best regards to all, especially the new member of your family.

Let there be light!👍😃. Hooray!!!! Good job Jim! 😊
Congratulations it looks great 👍 👌
I am so happy for you! Your joy brought tears to my eyes. God bless you.
Another milestone achieved 🎉SO happy for you and the fur kids too !!🥰🐾🐾
Very cool! Congratulations, you did a great job! So exciting, this will help you guys move forward easier to finish this dome.
Such a huge milestone. We're excited to be moving on to finishing the outer layer.
Next video show us the view of the windows from the outside with the dome lit up. How exciting to be able to see "the light from home" on your way up the driveway! Great job, both of you. You may have had help in the form of confirmation, but we know who put in the hard work!
How exciting lights and a FAN too. NICE!!! God's blessings.
I'm so proud of you two!!!!!!
It is such an accomplishment, you should be so proud. ❤️🇬🇧
As an electrician myself. I was taught to diagram all my wires before starting. That way there is a plan , doesn't always go that way, but that's why I do so. Marking them wires with a good insulator tape will be sufficient. However, on the reverse end it should be noted as well in the junction the terminate at.
So Happy for you. Congrats on your persistence. 👏 👏 👏
Great job Jess and Jim. Good to see Uvia opening up.
I love the bottle windows, they are beautiful. The fan looks great and there is power, a giant yee haw!!! 👏 congrats looking great
I am so happy for you four, fur babies included. Great job Jim and I can't wait to see how Jess' colored glass windows look from outside at night with the lights on inside. Film that for us would you please? Amazing what just 2 people can accomplish when you put in the time and effort. Congrats to you both.
Incredible! A Great job! You must enjoy knowing where you're at and what your doing at any given time on your property. I believe you should both be very proud and pleased. It is a beautifull accomplishment.
You did the pulling of the wires correctly. And a tip you don't need a fish tape. Tap a small piece of plastic bag on the end of a spool of string and put it at one end of the pipe and a shop vac at the other then you just tape your wires to the string and pull it.
Beyond Kudos !!!! You both should be so proud of each other, your foresight, research, sacrifice. A big "Hurrah" from Connecticut, your home Rock's !!! I hope 🐾🐾🐾 loves it.Sleep well, dream on....
Well done! I did my electrical and I’m blind I use tactile labels. Good job not wasting the wire!
A very good job I’m sure it’s pretty exciting to have the power in your dome and I’m still watching and I will be watching you just see you when you start working on the inside of your down and think it’s gonna be interesting to so God bless keep up the good work
Congrats on the power in the dome. Love that ceiling fan.
I am so happy for you two! 🎂
Congratulations Jim &Jess on the Electic in the Dome
we love you guys and every one of these "little" steps make us all happy
I was so glad there was a smooch in this one.
Fantastic Iove it when a project starts coming together ❤️
OMG IT WORKS!!! there was never any doubt, right? uh,, of course not...
historic, fantastic job. show everyone how it works.
Yea you guys are rocking. Would you please take your weather back, you are getting our rain. South TX is burnt too a crisp. 😅105 yesterday. Grrrrrrr
You two have accomplished so much.........with mostly sweat equity.
Just a thought. Get some black electrical heat shrink wrap and put it over the green wire in the boxes only. That way you are good to go!
You guys are so brave. What skills/savings did you have going into this that made you guys confident enough to take this challenge on? My husband thinks I'm crazy for dreaming about this stuff constantly. But I feel it gives one's life more purpose than just kicking back and watching tv does.
You can never have too many skills or too much money.😆 At some point there comes a time to pull that trigger. It's a bit of a leap of faith for sure.
Absolutely nothing wrong with reidentifing the green wire as long as the amp load is compatible with the guage!
Awesome job guys! @18:57 jess expression is like "wooahhh that's really electricity in the dome?!" 😆
Dang! Never thought about the PVC glue! I figured there was a reason you pulled it.. 🤔happy puppy life!
Why to go Jim and Jess, I'm excited for you!
Whoohoo! Let their be Light! (And a breeze from above!) Congratulations,
ya dun good!
