I have the rubberized version of that pack, it's a great ruck that will serve you well. The right side buckle was the Swiss Army's version of a "quick release" strap; once the strap is disconnected it's very easy to shrug the pack off, without any support on the right a packed up ruck tends to naturally swing toward the left.
Great deal! Keen eyes and a bit of elbow grease... result! From what I know we're the manufactured by saddle making companies so they are really well made with first grade leather. I think that the buck el was to take of the pack more easily in difficult situations. It was great that you came along and rescued it! All the best, Rob
FarWest Colorado Decided to sub as well, I've got the two pocket version of this pack (the newer water proof model, mine was made in 1981) and it is a massive thing that I haven't actually found a place for in my load outs. When I got it I had to get some repairs done as well as it was not as advertised and the retailer I bought it from was less than help full. Thankfully it was just $40 Canadian so after $20 in repairs I had a very usable ruck.
TurtleWolf Pack Thanks very much for subscribing as well! I love these old vintage packs. I'm always on the look out for them at garage sales, second hand stores and surplus stores. Used mine a few times and really enjoy it. I thought the leather straps where going to be uncomfortable after a while but it wasnt bad at all. Thanks again!
can't beat that with a big stick...chicago screws i believe they are called mountain pack buckle was an early version of a quick release system, its in real good shape i'd say...66 is indeed the year it was made. congrats...woods
Hi mate well there worth a decent amount of money in nice condition, the clip is so you can shrug on and off the pack without having to "zip it up" once you take it off. ie you set the pack for your back size and then don't readjust it. If the leather is really brittle next time you find something old, wash it in normal water and let it dry; the leather will become supple again and it won't darken it.
5:00 SZ could stand for Schwyz, abbreviation SZ, which is a canton (state) in the middle of Switzerland. And yes, 1966 is the year when it was produced. You made a great deal with it.
i think i have one of these - not sure? i have to look to verify what it is. it's in a box stored. i may get it out and see exactly what it is, but whatever it is, it's something very very similar to this (similar to yours). i would say it's so similar that it must at least be made by the same people, but not 100% sure, yet. i wanna pack it up and leave it in my truck on the back seat as a sort of emergency bag / field bag. i'm concerned about being prepared in-case of emergency. very very nice video - thx - hit liked!

I got an old one of these when I was kid for Christmas, this thing is awesome
The clip on the back leather shoulder strap is a quick release to easily swing the pack off.
