Dia dhuit Clifton, from Ireland. I'm wondering if you have any experience with having to reinforce a gourd? It's difficult the get strong gourds here in our wet climate and the one I'm working with now is a fairly flimsy 5mm thick so I was thinking about gluing a thin hoop of birch plywood inside the rim of the gourd before mounting the skin. Have you any thoughts on this? Keep up the great work with facilitating this great musical education for us all

Very helpful
Can you use leather? Does the hide have to be fresh?

People do all kinds of things to brace the inside of the gourd -- I never have. It's definitely best to use a thicker gourd.
