  • There are so many benefits of elecampane root!
It’s famous for coughs but be warned: it doesn’t help ALL types of coughs. Instead, elecampane truly shines for one type of cough in particular (and yes, I’ve got all the details in the episode).
Elecampane root is also totally underrated as a bitter herb to support digestion.
In this episode, I’m sharing my love for this powerful medicinal plant. As a listener, you’ll also get access to my favorite elecampane herbal bitters recipe. (Be sure to download your free, beautifully illustrated recipe card!)
If you have elecampane in your garden, or you simply want to know how to use it, then don’t miss out on all my best tips for getting the most benefits of elecampane root!

One of my seven plants I work with! I love this plant and yes the fresh root is the best! I had an Aunt visit once who had been dealing with a chronic cough for 4 years! The doctors could not figure it out or give her any help. So she was having a severe coughing fit when I put one dropper of my tincture in some water and told her to try it. We continued visiting when I said to her she was not coughing. It had immediately stopped the cough. She was in shock! Needless to say she went home with a big bottle of the tincture! Lol I also was taking it for a cough when it did something unexpected. I had a sinus infection the month before, but had been taking it for a cough. All the sudden I needed to blow my nose. Out came a shockingly large blob of something resembling rubber cement with a rusty brown color. I believe it was residual debris from my sinus infection! Such an amazing plant! Thank you for sharing sister!!!❤

Rosalee- these bitters are THE VERY BEST BITTERS I have ever made. I love love love them and now my other bitters are getting real lonely over on the apothecary shelf. They're so well-balanced, and everyone I've shared them with gets a super delighted face after trying them. I thought the amount of pepper was a misprint, but I went with it (because you like never have misprints), and geez am I glad I did! The sweetness of the orange with the pepper and the bitter ele is just total perfection. What a great lesson in bitters formulation!
Between these bitters and the elecampane hibiscus syrup you shared a while back (LOVE that one too- tho I make it with honey instead of sugar), my body is getting so much elecampane deliciousness. I started growing elecampane a few years ago, and a sweet little family of bunnies lived under her big leaves the first year. What a glorious plant. Thank you so much for all of the amazing sharing you do!

Happy New Year Rosalee! Thank yo fro sharing this herb. I have a woodland garden and need to choose more herbs for 2024. What are your thoughts of Milk Thistle? I am not on medications that interact and it sounds like an interesting herb for my digestion. I look forward to following your channel this year. Thank you ~ Diane

Could you make a tincture using glycerine? It would help cover the bitter taste I hope. Also, you previously mentioned that you make a tea with elecampane and Rose hips. Would you please give us the measurements? Thank you.

Hi, you can try a glycerite, if you wish. Nothing will really cover that bitterness, though! :D
