- I spent an entire year making this gown and I love the way it turned out, makes me feel like a real Princess. Watch, Like, Share and Subscribe!
I purchased this charmeuse satin fabric from fabricwholesaledirect for $2.99 a yard. It was a great deal but I believe more expensive fabric would have sewn and looked a little better. I had issue with the fabric pulling even when switching to a ball point needle. I usually purchase satin fabric from my local Joann Fabrics but they did not have a light green color in stock. The only color that came from Joann was the dark green.
Disney never released a Tiana pattern so I used the closes thing which was a Simplicity Cinderella pattern (1026). I also wanted the skirt to be fuller like in the movie so I purchased an a-line hoop skirt from Amazon.
Step 1: A layer tulle skirt. This was the most tedious process because tulle and net can be cumbersome to work with. Since I will have multiple layers going over this skirt I added an elastic waistband instead.
Step2: The yellow skirt. I followed these directions straight from the pattern. I probably should have added an extra inch to the waistband since it ended up too tight. At least this will motivate me to lose weight.
Step 3: The Petals. This was my own pattern, I measured the length of the skirt and then compared the width to the Tiana pics I found online. To make them look more 3D I added poly-fil quilting bating to the inside. I could have attached these to the waistband of the yellow skirt but it was too late. Instead I took some ribbon to make a tie waistband.
Step 4: Green Leaves. This was another one of my own patterns and rather difficult to figure out. I added a total of 3 pleats in the 4 bigger leaves and 1 pleat in the smaller leaf in order for the skirt to wrap around the waist without looking too bulky. A snap was added to the front.
Step 5: The corset took the longest to make. First I followed the pattern accordingly. Then I draped fabric over the finished corset to make the side leaves and for the front petals I followed the same technique I used for the skirt petals. The corset is finished with grommets and lace.
Step 6: Headband and Flower Pin. I cut out 18 dark green petals and 21 off while petals and divided them accordingly.
The necklace and earrings was also created by me. I’m hoping to make this better once I wear this to a con.
I hope you enjoyed the video. I have a ton of more stuff I documented and not just Cosplay but Accessories, Jewelry and Clothing.

This is fantastic. And I loved your little ratbag cat, getting up to mischief and making a nuisance of himself. You did a lovely job
Thank you so much :) My cat is always my litter helper
So sweet! Our neighborhood is showing Tbe Princess & the Frog, and I've been asked to play Princess Tiana for the kiddos. Your video is such a great guide to creating her gown. Thank you!!
