Yep, thread breaks happen. I place a small drop of UV resin in the bead chain eye opening, rotate that side down and zap it with the UV torch. It smooths the opening and prevents the metal core/link from protruding and catching thread or tippet. I appreciate how your videos are formatted and always informative. Thanks, Pipes
Great looking fly, could you substitute artic fox for the wing? Thanks
Yes. Fox fur works great, as do many synthetic furs, buck tail, crystal flash, whatever you want! You can even add in a small piece of mono as a weed guard!
Bead chain eyes have always been a love / hate relationship for me. They can have sharp edges which can cut your thread or tippet. Plus that floating leg in one eye is always wanting to flip out and do the same thing! Bastards... Plus, in salt water, the bead chain can possibly start rusting, unless you rinse you flys in a fresh water bath, after fishing each day. Unless you find the ever rare Stainless Steel Bead Chain! Its almost easier just to use dumbbell eyes in another material. ie. lead, copper, brass, tungsten...
Your fly looks great, and makes me want to go Bonefishing again SOON!
Thank you for sharing your expertise with those of us who enjoy your skill!
Beautiful Fly and an absolute KILLER!
Indeed, Charlie, you did a nice job on that fly and the head!
Another great looking fly thanks for sharing.
Nice enjoy see salt water flies
spot on as always!
Heh, back in the day I tied a lot of flies with tinsel tubing wings. I still have quite a few left from decades ago. I caught a trout a few weeks ago with one I tied back in the 80s... Great fly as always. Love your videos.
Thank you for the video!
Nice job. Jim McVay would have appreciated your precision in re-creating his fly. Rupert Leadon, the guide, would, with each hook up say, "Gotcha"... and Jim was using a fly he had tied with fibers from the floor of the car that brought him to the Andros Island Bonefish Club. So he named the fly the "Gotcha"... Jim's son Cole lives there on Andros near the club. First class guy.
Very nice job. What colors do you recommend tying these in?
It's a Glouser!
Jim would be happy to see your version, ya old curmudgeon:-)
Mylar tubing…. Tell us how ya feel about this Charlie and how long has this been going on?
Really wasting flat braid.
