Thank You! ...... There's a VERY important point that should not be missed. God didn't say "IF you eat of the tree.... God said, "WHEN you eat of the tree". Huge difference! "On the day" means WHEN. Adam knew everything belonged to God. God first told innocent (and ignorant) Adam TO (and what) to eat. Otherwise, Adam would've starved. Then God told Adam what NOT to eat. Modern Jews suggest Adam and Eve chose to eat of 'the tree of knowledge' within only an hour after God's warning. Why is any of this important? Why does this matter?
Because Adam and Eve could never truly achieve 'free will' or 'freedom of choice' until they actually disobeyed. Once they disobeyed, they were truly ACTING UPON THEIR OWN WILL (willful action) rather than GOD's will. Like so many other things of God, it's not belief and understanding alone that proves or disproves our obedience. It's action. I submit God not only KNEW Adam and Eve would choose to eat 'the fruit of knowledge' but also expected/needed/desired/intended them to do so. It was a set-up (so to speak). The 'serpent' was simply a catalyst (or a push) allowed by God. Adam and Eve's only real choice was 'WHEN' to eat. Nothing of God is by accident...... NOTHING!
However, now mankind could freely choose to love God or not, and of our own free will. Our little bit of 'free will' has cost ALL OF US a heavy price including our lives! Especially for the one God, who also became one of us as a sacrifice (the lamb slain from the foundation/beginning of the world). Was/Is our tiny bit of 'free will' really worth it?..... God seems to think so.
May the Spirit of the one God (revealed, expressed, and manifest in Jesus the Christ) unify us, lead us, and guide us into all truth!
