I hung out with him and Develop a bunch of times in the late 90's through a mutual friend when he and his crew were on top. Cool cats and always humble. Spik invited my friends and I to his home in NJ once and he showed us his set. Develop also invited all of us back to his home one night after a different battle and he showed us all the records his father produced for his brother and Develop's uncle salsa superstar Marc Anthony. Cool moment I still cherish.
this dude went on first and straight up shredded. this is one of my alltime favorite sets. if anyone has ever battled they fucking know how nerve racking it can be let alone the dmcs. this kid has no fear fucking needle drops in miliseconds I mean unreal
WAS ANYONE LIKE ME A TOTAL DIE HARD TURNTABLIST WHO WOULD DIE WITH ANTICIPATION FOR THE NEW DMC VHS BATTLES WHEN THEY RELEASED THEM. OR my all time geek out mode was when i copped the new TTTV...lmao me and my dudes would pop that in and be rolling. shout out to Toadman.
I remember going to this battle at the Palace of Fine Arts in San Francisco. I used a tape recorder to record the battle, because camera phones didn’t exist yet 😂 After the battle, I remember hanging out outside with all of the DJ’s. This set from Spiktakular was the one I’d go back and listen to the most.
this has to be hands down one of the greatest ever battle sets. yes its full of mistakes but the ideas this guy had was next level. i would love to shake this guys hand for what he did for the scene back then. does anybody know him on facebook?
him, dj develop, and dj craze were in a crew called allies. wow, this brought back memories from tableturns where the battle djs went Sunday nights in LES Manhattan. i think that is where we met dj craze and they all got together.
i just rewatched this battle and i wanna know how the hell this kid didn't win?? p-trix is unreal and a beast but this shit was differen't and creative and flawless. scratching with both hands...p-trix set was very basic, an intro/ beat juggle/ scratch routine/ beat juggle/ outro. ptrix is my boy too.
I love this set too but it's obvious. P-trix was on time and clean, better scratching and original juggles that were more musical and better composed. 3 or 4 guys from the Allies were in the 99 competition and you saw some of the same juggle patterns repeated in all their sets. P-trix stood out in that battle because his stuff was different and didn't sound like everyone else.
This DMC year needs to be completely digitized & re-releaed. I don't want hear it...this is the best year DMC (on a whole) has released as far as every contestant having classic sets against each other.
I kind of think that's why he lost. that has to be the reason why bc the set was dope. I remember back when used to battle we used to clown on people who used headphones in battles.
@ftnrbhmwk You've never seen a White or Asian DJ do body tricks while juggling? Try Roli Rho and Doe Boy from the fifth platoon, First Rate (formerly of the Scratch Perverts), Can I mention Craze? etc etc. In 1989 it was DJ Aladdin who won the DMC (in the US) not DJ Scratch. Body tricks have always been considered a 'gimmick' for the most part, they detract from the musicality and technicality of a routine. Race has never mattered, if you think so - you are paranoid. Battling isn't about money.
Fico aqui observando como esse DJ nao alcançou pelo menos o 3 lugar ..nessa epoca..👀👀👀 com essa tecnica avançada na epoca....no DMC ..tem panelinha ..com certeza ..✌✌✌
i have the vhs from this contest... best ever... watch it .. super high dj level (all) ...every finalist from this could win dmc /red bull today... easy
@funkateer17 have u seen aladdin, alcoholic, crackhead, n did a bid... Look at the reunion vid. As for Joe Cooley.. Everybody know the Philly kats were beating NYC n Cali dj's in the 80's Jazzy Jeff, Dj CASH MONEY; probably the 1st unofficial beat juggler.. They (PHILLY DJ'S) started putting the turntables vertical. N the media LIED; n said NWA started gangster rap...NOT!!! Philly's Schoolly d, who own his label, n had total control, n the early 80's. Then u had JUST- ICE NYC RAPPER
@ftnrbhmwk Come on. P-Trix owned that competition. It has nothing to do with skin colour. If you perform a routine of the complexity level indicative in P-Trix's routine, it really isn't feasible to perform body tricks. Playing the race card is just silly
@stillceaser Craze in not white. He's from central America. Body tricks is never a gimmick; that came with battling in the 70's with Flash, Grand Wizard Theodore. Wow; u talking detraction "from the musicality and technicality of the routine"! That the problem with whites n asians, they want 2 claim shit, rewrite shit, n tell others what how it should b done.. 1st of all, ur not mixing on the dance floor, so it doesn't have to b clean, no body is going to dance to it.
@ftnrbhmwk Oh dear. It sounds like you are oppressing yourself. You are too young to have any sense of 'back in the day' so you can't really comment on the 'geist' of that time - suffice to say you have it very wrong. Turntablism and it's history (indeed Hip Hop) is not a adumbration of racial tension, rather I would posit that it had brought race together. If you really want to make strong critique, I would say it has (like many other things) been subsumed by class and money, but not race.
@ftnrbhmwk You certainly have a skewed perspective, not to mention an inherently racist and bigoted one. I'll stick with the turntablism, because you are way out of your depth regarding history and geopolitics. So, would you accept that turntablism has evolved since the days of Flash, Jazzy Jay, DST and so on? Would you accept that it is a pursuit all races' and persuasion can undertake? Would you prefer some 'closed shop' where only black DJs performing body tricks can lay claim? Dialectic?
@ftnrbhmwk You are making a bit of a straw man out of the whole affair. Just enjoy Spiktakulars set, and if you are dissatisfied with the status quo in America (as many, including myself are), then do something constructive and useful about it. Try not to embarrass yourself by making anachronistic analogies of imperial race struggles. It doesn't do the debate any justice, nor service.
@stillceaser NO I DON'T EXCEPT IT... U all ruined dj battles. Just like u ran break dancing in the whole. I might b a bigot, but not a Racist. I dont have the power 2 oppress ppl. Make laws n have certain ppl living on reservations.. Battling MAKES NO MONEY. i THOUGHT U HEARD ME!!! If u want to stay n ur basement 4 hours practicing, thats ur business. But party Dj's will make money, like Kid Capri, Dj kay slay for NBA ALL STAR GAME, ALBUM RELEASE PARTIES, AND NFL SUPER BOWL PARTIES. Geeeez!!!
I hung out with him and Develop a bunch of times in the late 90's through a mutual friend when he and his crew were on top. Cool cats and always humble. I agree with you 100% on that my style is the best
Yes, and also the rock da beat juggle.
Word
Totally agree. I’ve been coming back to it since I first got it on VHS.
Fuck me that was too fresh!!! Gotta be one of the best DMC sets ever for real.
This guy is a natural. He coulda easily been champ any given year. Just like Craze.
Prolly why they were in the same crew
WAS ANYONE LIKE ME A TOTAL DIE HARD TURNTABLIST WHO WOULD DIE WITH ANTICIPATION FOR THE NEW DMC VHS BATTLES WHEN THEY RELEASED THEM. OR my all time geek out mode was when i copped the new TTTV...lmao me and my dudes would pop that in and be rolling. shout out to Toadman.
HALL OF FAME SET!
hell yeah unless Dj P takes the honors.
If I remember correctly, "my style is the best" can be found on the Bionic Booger Breaks record.
I dont think it is, im searching hard but i cant remember which record it was on
It is on Booger Breaks. I can confirm this.
'My Style is the Best' is the most sickest scratching set ever. VERY TIGHT!
Do you remember what battle record this beat was on?
@@jonathanbasco9619 Beat: Need Thrashers 2 ua-cam.com/video/cg6qDcB1nkA/v-deo.html Scratch samples: Bionic Booger Breaks ua-cam.com/video/zZrnAiv0TUs/v-deo.html
What a beautiful set. This is my first time seeing it too
One of the all time best sets
I remember going to this battle at the Palace of Fine Arts in San Francisco.

After the battle, I remember hanging out outside with all of the DJ’s.
This set from Spiktakular was the one I’d go back and listen to the most.
awesome - the pre-dub step, pre-serato era of turntablism - real hip hop!
HE IZ LIKE A FUNKY HYBRID INNOVATION BETWEEN DJ IEMERGE AND DJ CRAZE ON NITRO FUEL. *DJ SPICTAKULAR* 1 OF BEST EVER 🔘🎶🔘🎶 🏆👈😎👊💥
this has to be hands down one of the greatest ever battle sets. yes its full of mistakes but the ideas this guy had was next level. i would love to shake this guys hand for what he did for the scene back then. does anybody know him on facebook?
Otto DjSpictakular Pineda
i used to skratch at his house in jersey city back in the days
him, dj develop, and dj craze were in a crew called allies. wow, this brought back memories from tableturns where the battle djs went Sunday nights in LES Manhattan. i think that is where we met dj craze and they all got together.

I always thought if he wouldn't have gone first he'd have won. Not to take away from Ptrix but this set was too dope
I love this set too but it's obvious. ***** Enjoy. 1 of the best !
*Pure Hip-hop, fresh style, smooth, groove under control so rare ‼️
that year was GREAT!
Yes Man.
Been looking for this for years but couldn't remember his name.
Totally enjoyable set.
Good upload soulskratch.
Love that juggle that starts at 4:45
One of the best ever
Still
Jersey Represent!!!! Boyeeeeeee
Brought back memories!
2nd place...Fuk off! Started first, and destroyed everyone.
Rukus was tight, Ptrix was second, very smooth on the up faders though.
+captin weestain Rukas was very much overlooked in this battle. Hands down the hardest USA line-up ever.
NOCDIB
The best.
So many dope dj's. Develop, Roli roh, nearly all were tight.
I agree, fave set of all time. But didn't he come 3rd? Slice 2nd?
kuttin candy should of won/ wait was she in this or 98??? 5th platoon lookout
LEE BRANDON
This was '99, all dj's were dope
I am studied very much. It is splendid.
Wuhuuuuu
Brillant
Ma man
The Allies were such a great collective of DJ's. Not a weak link in the bunch. The good 'ol days of Turntablism.
I love the name. I bet you are real good right now.
the 90's was the crazy golden era for turntablism...
This DMC year needs to be completely digitized & re-releaed. I don't want hear it...this is the best year DMC (on a whole) has released as far as every contestant having classic sets against each other.
he went 1st and killed it. this is the 2nd best us dmc routine behind crazes 98 in my opinion.
Dummy had the best set in this comp. But tbh 199 dmc usa finals was the most stacked battle ever
This set should have WAY more views.. Nice as shit.
DMC used to be so fun.
Damnnnn thaat was really funky routine right there.....
Finishing off the rest of his set, with the headphones hanging around his neck 😁👌
I kind of think that's why he lost. that has to be the reason why bc the set was dope. I remember back when used to battle we used to clown on people who used headphones in battles.
2:20 made me yell at my tv.....blunts and UA-cam holes
He definitely made it hard coming on first. Assuming what’s on the tape is the order they actually performed
@ftnrbhmwk You've never seen a White or Asian DJ do body tricks while juggling? He kinda reminds me of Craze
Show de bola
It sucks that amazing djs like him came during the Qbert era... same goes for the craze era... it’s like Jordan vs. John Stockton
i forgot bout ptrix. its close.
Dudes name is legendary. haha spiktacular.
i have the vhs from this contest... best ever... watch it .. super high dj level (all) ...every finalist from this could win dmc /red bull today... easy

Going first killed his chances. Routine is so sick.

I think he lost based on how large that shirt was. 😂
