  • No talking, building an entire small off grid cabin from start to finish using a sawmill by hand. The FULL BUILD can be seen here: www.youtube.co...?list=PLDg2Qmw9pKidP83tB6L6rQieRe7bdS8K6
We are now working on the outhouse: • Building Outhouse at O...
    Norwood Portable Sawmill: www.norwoodsaw...
We show everything from setting and digging the pillars, cutting the 2x4's, ripping siding, cutting roof trusses, installing the metal roof, installing windows, chimney, wood stove, decking and building the front door.
We use a Norwood hd36 portable sawmill to make nearly all the materials for this build from locally sourced timbers.
We use ash, cedar, and pine for most of the structure and siding.

Please follow along with the full playlist in order to understand the full construction of the tiny cabin.
In this series we use materials around us to construct a small forest cabin.
We'll use cedar, pine, ash, maple, and whatever else we can scrounge up from the 30 acres around us. The aim is to avoid using as much store bought material as possible and keep the budget reasonably low.
Originally we set a budget of $1000, but that included the use of a frame from an old camper trailer. As we build, the budget will remain flexible in effort to produce a cabin that we are proud of and one that will last a long while, be comfortable, and sleep real human beings.

Love the cabin build. Retired professional builder here in Maine , I know all the codes and heard you read the ugly comments but your little cabin is solid and sound. Let the ugly comment people go somewhere else. Enjoyed watching your team, energized to build again and have just discovered a channel I will be spending more time on. Keep it going. Allen Holley

    Love the portable lumber mill.
That opens up so many possibilities for what you build away from civilization.
Especially if you have lots tall, straight trees around you.

People have been cutting off cars to make trucks, since shortly after cars were invented. There is a 1932 five window Model A coupe with the rumble seat removed to add in an early 1930s Ford truck box, in a junkyard in Marquette County, Michigan.

I actually enjoyed every minute of this even though I will probably never build a cabin. I was actually sewing a project while watching this video because I can do two things at a time. LOL I love watching things being built. I used to watch my father build things when I was a child. The snow kind of took me back to Maine where I grew up. I love the smell of sawdust. I have a small woodworking shop where I do small projects. I learned a lot from this video about the animals, recycling, as well as woodworking and I like how you handled the negative commenters who offer no contribution whatsoever. I get that too on some of my DIY UA-cam projects. On the same video I can get lots of praise but there will always be those who want to educate me and tell me everything I did wrong and how my videos can be better. At least some people can do that in a nicer way. I think I will adopt your policy of ignoring those unkind and rude commenters as well. This was really fun to watch. Oh, and they guy cooking his egg - I was actually impressed how well he flipped that egg in such a small skillet. He’s got skills. Mine would have flopped onto the floor.

They insulate in another video. Search. The jury is still out on if that is enough wood stove or not.

I definitely would have gotten a bigger stove. It isn't much fun to use a cabin without a good stove.

Many in the comments think the stove is too big. That’s not what I’ve seen.

Very cool but agree with others. After 1st minute was wondering why all that work but put the foundation posts in dirt where they are going to rot out under it ?

The cabin is made from mostly materials found in the environ, one thing that surprises one is the dry wall inside! To each his own.
