Incidentally, I've made several of your Altoid tin kits for family and friends. I think your ideas allow much more utilization than most others I've seen.
THANKS everyone for all the nice comments and compliments. I'm sorry but I don't have the time currently to respond to all your posts individually, so please accept this general thanks to you all. Peace.
Your videos are very useful. Probably one of the best on UA-cam. Thank you for taking the time to make the videos. Ignore the trolls and haters, we love you man!
My prayers have been answered. I always wished you'd turn on the comment section. I LOVE LOVE LOVE your videos and watch them 2 or 3 times each, and I thought, I wonder what great ideas others have come up with just watching your videos, that they could be sharing here if the comments were turned on. I have made a couple of these, and one thing I like to use now, is thin steel tubing like brake line from an auto parts store. They sell different sizes, and I was wondering what ideas you could come up with if we used a little large size I.D. and put some thing inside that tubing since a little heavier wire can be used and it's not needed all the way to the center of the tubing. I LOVE how you think outside the box on things like this and it's got me thinking that way too. I use a hollow Q-Tip shaft and seal both ends after I fill it with potassium permanganate for emergency water treatment for mini kits. It treats a lot of water in a VERY small space for mini kits. Keep up the GREAT work MZ.
You are a edc legend! Thanks so much for opening the coments. You dont want to know how many times i have wanted to write something in your coments section! Thanks for making and coming up with all these great edc ideas! Keep up the great work! :)
this is a good one. you oughtta think about marketing this idea. youd be surprized how many people arent inclined or just dont have the time to do stuff like this and would gladly pay a couple bucks for one of these. just a thought.
MeZillch IDEALLY you want the stiffest wire possible, as thick as possible, yet still fits in the center core, a small, centered gap where the two ends meet inside, and the center core tube should be as rigid as possible. Metal tubing can be bought at some hardware stores, I also once used a snapped off, cut down, telescoping antenna from an old radio as my center core tube.
In my videos I often use airplane cable [what runs through the fuselage and is being tugged on as a pilot moves the ailerons, etc.] keyrings. Amazon has good deals in bulk. Search for: Meco Stainless Steel Wire Key chain Cable Key Ring (20 Packs) but be warned some merchants are slow due to overseas sources. These cable rings seem good and sturdy but some people say they have a tendency to come unscrewed in heavy pocket jostling without gluing them shut. They look cool though. :) For my actual EDC I use a Mity Mite stainless steel keychain. Not as sexy looking but it holds up very well.
+Akmaisto Mods Yes, by all means. Go ahead. Thank you for asking. Please leave word here once you have, so others including myself can see. BTW, in my experience the best rolls I've made use very stiff tubes, stiff dowels or wires, and the duct tape needs to be rolled on lightly, not tightly.
Interesting, thank you! If you want to check out some of my other work click here: www.instructables.com/id/Worlds-Smallest-DIY-Survival-Kit/ I will be posting a V2 most likely tonight.
+Akmaisto Mods I took a look at your kit V1. Top notch! I have a new micro kit video coming soon too. Rather than being a completed kit mine is more of a concept kit which examines the container itself rather than what one would put in it.
Here is what I have in my kit: Needle, fish hook, magnet and part of paperclip(for making compass), 2 foot of tape, 4 matches, two tinder that last for 3-4 minutes each, and I am going to add cordage. Anything else I need?
I think you could just barely fit in two rolls of Camo colored Gorilla tape, one meter each, however that would take up almost half of your whole tin space so you wouldn't have much room left over for other survival kit items, if that was your plan. For large quantities of 2 meter or more you might want to consider my squash clamp method: ua-cam.com/video/gqseV5yKjuw/v-deo.html
ZOMG!! OPEN COMMENTS?!? HOW REFRESHING!! Maybe its just me, but I use my EDC electrical tape waaaaaay more than my EDC duct tape. I keep a few layers around the perimeter of my "urban survival tin" bit I'm curious if you have some clever ideas for storing electrical tape?
I carry small amounts of electrical vinyl tape in 4 places: The outer perimeter of my TIN 1 as a water barrier, like you do, also the INNER perimeter to a) act as a slight bumper cushion for the carried components b) to add electrical insulation so I don't have to worry about AA batteries shorting against the metal sides, and c) to block the tin's hinge holes from allowing water entry, in or out, if using the tin as a water collection cup, say in a solar still design or rain collection (at the base of a tilted, open space blanket) scenarios. I also have a short red and black piece stuck to my thin, flexible ruler in one of my pocket organizers for actual electrical repair patches. I can't promise comments will be left open forever, BTW, this is only a test. :)
EstBest69 When it comes to my TRUE survival kits, I hope to use them "never". Using one means there has been some disaster, accident, zombie infestation, or other SHTF situation. If by "survival kit" one means a kit to get you by when your regular toolbox isn't at hand, then quite often. :)
I really enjoy your survival mini-kit concepts. Keep them coming. You are the McGuyver of EDC!

This shows the value of large paper clips.
I like the Mack Nameplate , the short name of MacGyver

Wow, this is great info. You seriously are an EDC whiz. 😃
Thanks!
Thank you for the cool idea, is it right if you use a little thicker wire like coat hanger wire too?

you man are a genius...
Keep the lint off by wrapping a bit of plastic wrap around the entire spool.
Thanks for finally enabling comments!
great idea :)
wow I didn't know there was so much to say about duct tape.
Duct tape even saved the astronauts lives. interestingengineering.com/times-astronauts-saved-duct-tape
Awesome video. What do you use for your key chain? The flexible loop thing?

Wow......how cool. 😲😲
Where to you come up with these awesome ideas?
Drugs.
Dear MeZillch, the only thing I can do to appreciate your wok is to subscribe and thumbs up. I wish I could do more....
Thanks
Super!
How did u make that little blade you use
Do you mind if I use this idea and improve on it a bit for my instructable? I would of course give you credit.

Could you fit 2 Of the 1 metre Camo in a. Altoid

So how much do you use your kits?

I love your videos! But I'm always like he needs to clear his throat.... Then I'm like nope it's just his voice. :/
