Their payment systems were and still is no where close to being as advanced as theUPI payment system.
There's no complexity to UPI for the consumer firstly.
Secondly, UPI transactions are on average 3 times faster than Ali Pay as well.
Thirdly, UPI payment system isn't grid locked as it is for Chinas payment systems.
Though, yes it's true that Chinas payment systems are though much better than any of the west yet comparing them to UPI is stupid as they are inferior in every aspect.
Paytm has built another competitive advantage for the salaried employees by providing them food vouchers which helps them income tax deduction. Great integration with Paytm Wallet!

To me Paytm is better than any other payment app. It's because of Paytm Postpaid and UPI lite features and also it's UI.

In another 10-15 years india along with paytm , upi, rupay and digitalisation will bring on a revolution around the world with finance technology and will beat the greatest countries in the world in terms of net valuation of an individual person . Because small businesses lending and business to peer lending has great untapped potential that other developed countries are unbothered about.

I first got introduced to Paytm during the pre-demonitization days and since then it's been 10 years I have been a active customer of Paytm and Paytm Payments Bank. I even tried using phonepe but the interface or the usability just didn't feel familiar or easy just like an Apple user switching to Android. I'm very hopeful of the bright future that Paytm as a company holds because Paytm has been a part of my day to day life since last 10 years.

As a business owner who has a Paytm POS machine as well as one issued by a mainstream bank, we always use the one by the bank as charges are much lesser. Paytm is good at giving the machine quickly but charges need to be worked upon.
Paytm comes up with new ideas and implements them and then phone pe steals that idea with deep pockets and overtakes Paytm
it;s not just phonepe this is how market works.

Hey Think School, Just to mention..In the coming months, as per NPCI orders of the last year, no Third Party Application Providers (TPAPs) will have a market share of more than 30% when it comes to UPI based payment. This is applicable to both PhonePe and GPay but not to Paytm as it is registered as a Payment Bank. I believe this is also something that can prove to be game changer for Paytm and help the firm in gaining a major share of Indian UPI payment where today it has a share of less than 20%.
How would above 30% market share companies kick people out of their apps tho? Seems kinda undefined tbh or maybe they should let the invisible hand do the work or support competition via other more defined ways
paytm does not come under this only because they have less than 30% marketshare, it being registered as payment bank doesn't matter, NCPI is not that stupid lol.

Think school should make a video on India stack program covering from 2009 Adhaar to future 45 second loan idea mainly to MSME sector like u mentioned in the video but in India stack there will be many large banks competing to give a Rs10,000 loan for kiran owner which would be revolutionary just like UPI .

Great points. One additional competitive factor that gives Paytm an edge over other UPI apps is that is has recently launched UPI lite; This enables these frequent small value transactions at merchant shops to be done seamlessly without multiple entries in user's passbook and even without internet requirement - which solves huge problem for rural India.
I think you should do a video on BHIM UPI, which is designed and developed by NPCI, who also developed UPI itself. It is safe to use than the private competitors.

Sir, paytm is also killing online movie booking apps like book my show in a silent way, because in my town book my show has only one theater 🍿🎥 but paytm had all movie halls in guntur.
Just wondering! A sound box lasts say X years, after that period I will check who is offering similar sound box at a cheaper price, what's so special here again? Phonepe or bhartpe can still give tough competition just like in upi space. My point here is paytm first mover advantage in no way acts as a moat
The sound box might give some leverage to its existing customers
But your data and loan eligibility of soundbox will keep you with paytm

What do you think about phonepe's add campaigns? Perhaps it's just that phonepe is more into creating an environment for the customer for it provides a foundation already. Why it couldn't be seen from a point of convenience.

Phonepe soundbox rent is lower than paytm soundbox rent. For small businesses, its incentivizing people to opt for phonepe. I dont know about loan disbursal though.

From a customer's pov, PhonePe goes one step ahead also because of it's Wallet feature. On the one hand, where PhonePe has the wallet feature activated, it has been suspended in Paytm for reasons not known.
PayTM wallet feature is still active I use only PayTM for all my payments. While I use UPI option in the app to scan BharathPe QR codes, having money in paytm wallet is useful while scanning Paytm QR codes as you dont have to enter the UPI pin for each and every transaction.
Paytm is a great app but the problem is you have to fill their wallet before you can make any transaction unlike with other apps where money gets deducted directly from bank, so if i want to make any transactions using paytm i have to make two operations one is fill the wallet and then make the payment which is keeping people away from paytm..
There is no entry barrier for the sound boxes too, it's not sustainable

The other thing paytm has done about customer retention in salaried segment are food coupons, that companies offer to their employees. So I reinstalled paytm to transact through food coupons. Something that none of them offer except for sodexo

Sound box have deployed without having adequate knowledge to customers very few merchant base knew about the 125 monthly charges on sound box after knowing this thing several merchants returned the sound box
It's a little funny because you always make the company you cover look picture perfect even when it isn't. The comment section is a proof of how powerful videos can be to sort of hypnotize people.
Why cannot the merchant phone read out the notification about payment? App can also do.. Why do we need a hardware.? This cannot be a longterm retainer in my opinion.
i never had doubt on the paytm i had been using paytm since inception and AFTER all the correction i have buy the paytm shares also.
The issue i find with paytm is that they don’t promote themselves as a super app!! They have so many features but they havent got the best marketing as a super app

Biggest problem with these fintech cos. is that they are constantly burning cash. Lending business is yet to become profitable even for Bharatpe which has a banking license. There is more risk analysis to be done on Paytm, more so as they are public. Insolvency can take the whole sector down.
I still wonder how Paytm missed out on UPI while they saw the impact of digitisation and first to be benefitted.
The best thing about paytm is it's wallet feature because one can make online transactions despite not having a bank account or UPI on the same number.

Paytm sound box works for even payments made by customers thru phonepe...and this transaction goes to phonepe database.. so how is Paytm sound box a game changer when it notifies gpay phonepe payments also?
I have done all these research when paytm was around 450 and now I am feeling happy because now I am able to analyse any company before investing in it.
Paytm data analytics are on next level, they show me where u have spent in percentage, across which shop, which services, just so cool and I can easily optimise my finance
How is having put voice speakers in the store a good retainer strategy? It is a first mover advantage for sure, but how is it any different from the first movers advantage of putting up QRs in the shops? The problem remains the same, the barrier to switches is next to nothing. Phonepe is offering their speakers for 1 Rs right now.

sir, u forgot the point that the sound box itself is not a buy-and-use gadget, instead, it is a rental service with the intern making more of a habitual monthly spending and adding a monthly source of funds regardless of the merchant's business status, which includes their profits.
paytm and PhonePe they both will be really big in future. They both will become finance companies giants
Sad to say, but there is no match for Paytm due to Wallet to bank transfer feature, Paytm Postpaid, UPI Lite, etc. no app still have many convenient features like Paytm.

Paytm sound box is good but in every month paytm sound box has charges for that box .in phone pay or google pe has this sound is in built in there app .this is difficult challenge for paytm.
India really needs a neo bank asap. Traditional banks are way too old-school now. We have already went a decade ahead with innovations like the UPI, why stay behind in the Neo bank sector?

Paytm also offers ONDC platform. Also, it is now offering insurance and postpaid loan for customers.
UI of Paytm is very complicated, confusing and takes a lot of time to load. It doesn’t load when I want to recharge a data pack if my daily limit is exhausted where PhonePe runs well even my data limit is exhausted
