The company Leak, famous for it's Iconic tube amps and tuners, is long gone. Whoever chose to hijack the name Leak and stamp it on made in china CD players has nothing to do with the original company called Leak. The speakers however are genuine Tannoys... from an iconic company that is still with us.
Spoken like someone who has NEVER HEARD THESE. While its true that many mid fi British brands have had to turn to China for manufacturing, theres nothing wrong with this and much right. For starters the prices would be completely out of kilter were they still made in the UK. "Made In China" tends to mean made in the latest factories with the latest equipment and with the Leak components it shows as the walnut cabbed amp and cdt are SUPERBLY made.. But more importantly, the designs of these units are NOT Chinese, they are Brit/IAG Group, so the designers can call upon vast reserves of know how to conceive them. Furthermore the original Leak designers would now be ancient/dead and offer nothing to the world of audio AND YET the designer of the 230 has spoken at length about the simplicity of this amp and how it reflects much of the simplicity of the original Leak integrateds. As for Tannoy, now here is a brand that trades on past glories. Their speakers are WOEFULLY overpriced nowadays. Some of the Stirling GR are even known to be built in China which you should also take issue with. They also have little of their design team left with most jumping ship to form Fyne audio. Ive heard the Stirling GR, Turnberry GR and owned the Kensington GR before the price rises. I couldnt live with the former two models for lack of tonality and the Kens had their weaknesses too. For the money the Tannoy GR range is now a rip off at this point.
@@tomwebb7091 This is just going off a youtube clip I know, but I'd say this is the best I heard Stirling GR and yeah surely that has got something to do with this Leak?
@@hithighsThe Leak has some warmth and a calm demeanor and the Tannoys have a horn-esque upper mid presence so the combo should synergise well. The good thing with the Tannoys is the ability to change the treble energy (presence region). When i had mine i MUCH preferred it with thr treble energy set to minus 3db. It doesnt roll off the very top end but it made everything sound smoother and more listenable. I like alot of music that isnt exactly audiophile of recording so this is handy!

Wish they made a power amp.
@@hithighs The Leak amps are rebranded Quad amps in different boxes. Just buy the Quad Artera Stereo or Monos with the Artera Pre 👍
