This is the best Mazda 2 review around. Thank you :)
thanks keep tuning in! =)
You really cannot go wrong with a Mazda, they're bullet-proof.I've had three..!!
Not a fan of these fog lights and the chrome thing next to it
Ferni74 I think it's good that they went to LEDs, although the chrome bit can look tacky.
whaat? my pre facelift mazda 2 has rear disc brakes😂
Vincent Verhey Rear disc is standard on the 115bhp version with a 6 speed manual. 75 and 90 bhp is drum brakes rear.
Don't forget to watch full length also to see the surprising extra classic collection bit in this video :)
50-100 in a Mazda2 in 2nd gear works much better, overtaking in 3rd... you can rev it a lot more than you did.
In depth review well received. We recently bought the GT Sport on the basis of this and other reviews, and would now add the following comments. Car feels much bigger inside, although boot is a slightly awkward shape. Engine is " fluffy" at low revs and when pulling away - direct injection? Economy is ok, but petrols are no match for diesels. Quality throughout is great. Suspension firm but car is very entertaining to drive. Head up display is great with a surprising amount of technology is included for the price. New engines due shortly, but current model is exceptional value. We added mud flaps and painted the black boot wing in the body colour and it looks great. We anticipate keeping this car for a long time.
thanks fro the feedback !
bob rose can you please elaborate on the ride quality and road/wind noise? im looking to buy the GT trim mazda as well
@@udi112 mine is comin in couple of weeks so can provide you info if want..
I don';t think that by buying the 115 PS version you have a "less stressed" engine. In fact, where do those extra horses come from, in a car with the same cc, excerpt by stressing the engine more?
What a beautiful Mazdas' collection! Great review as well.
However, I don't quite agree with all AJ's comments, e.g. about the HUD - in such a small car it's not necessary in my opinion, interesting what its price is. A few years ago we didn't even have built-in navigation and it was still possible to get to the point :) What I like in Mazdas is that when you get inside the car you are not overwhelmed with technology screaming out from huge screen. You know that you are still a Driver :)
thanks for the feedback m8 :)
This is the best review ever about a car. My compliments for your explanation, enthusiasm and effort about the Mazda2. You should make more reviews really !
thanks so much! We will also present the Mazda2 facelift to you early next year!
@@autogefuehl Great! After Mazda3 (2006) I have now Mazda2 GT-M 90. Love Skyactiv technology and the fun of driving
Autogefühl u
I recently purchased a 2017 Toyota Yaris iA here in the USA, which is pretty much a Mazda 2 sedan version with a Toyota grill built by Mazda for Toyota in a Mazda plant in Mexico. The interior elements are nearly identical to this Mazda 2. For the price I feel I got a lot for the money. Also I'm getting in excess of 40 mpg combined mileage, which I'm extremely happy with. With a full tank of gas it has a range in excess of 400 miles, which I consider excellent.
How´s the car been after a full year from your original comment ? I really want the hatchback version but unfortunately US only gets the sedan which looks okay..not as good looking as the hatch.
How about the road & tyre noise? They claimed they did NVH improved but I want to know is it really help? Especially the noise is so loud when you sit on rear seat in previous version.
Very thorough review AJ. :-)
thanks andrew!
And a nice surprise to see the Mazda classic collection. Fantastic :-)
=)
I'm in US,have a 2014 mazda2,last year made here.
I do not like the new body style especially the front end .
Also in 14 they did not make the nice blue and bright green anymore which attracted me to this car .
No diesel or awd maxda2 here either.
We dont have lot of choices on small cars here.
I'm originally from Germany.
Ido like my basic car except for the color , it's red , would've loved a green one.
All the parking lots look so boring anymore !
i think this model is different from the mazda2 that assembled in Thailand.
The mazda2 in this review has ugly interior design :v
This fine vehicle would be perfect if MAZDA adds an armrest and a couple of inches for rear passengers. Don´t think it would be that hard for the next generation.
exionem hopefully they will do that for the 2019 version.
I'm afraid the 115 horsepower version engine has the same max torque at the same rpm; on the other hand, the peak power is achieved at high rpm, so no doubt that the 115 horsepower version engine will score higher fuel consumption! The facts are the same in the case of the Mazda 2.0 l petrol engine: 120, 150 or 165 horsepower versions have the same max torque at the same rpm!
Yeah but you need to search for the torque curve and power curve graphs for the engines, I’ve seen them and the 115 version maintains torque and increases power after 4K whereas the 90 & 75 versions have an ECU detune which drops them off a cliff, making 4K+ rpm essentially useless. And these engines are designed for using that higher rpm. If you want to stay at low revs get a turbo engine or a diesel.
Nice review! Is there a version with electric folding mirrors? Also, no center armrest in 2017? What does Autogefuhl prefer, this facelifted mazda 2 or the new Ibiza FR?
Compare our Ibiza review: ua-cam.com/video/89_INeb0_Ps/v-deo.html
The armrest is an option, the folding mirror is standard equipment on my 2016 Mazda 2. I took the armrest option, worth it!
I've upgraded from a 2010 Suzuki swift 1.5 petrol which was very reliable to a similar 2017 Mazda 2 petrol 1.5 sports nav and I am smiling every day... little car is a gem...not the quickest however so fun to drive. Luv it💥👏👏👏👏👏🔥🔥🔥🔥💥💥💥
Excellent work, Aditya. Your Mazda 2 test car interior looks good for a small car. I prefer a built in infotainment display, though stuck-on ones are usually higher in the driver's sight; and agree these modern big displays distract drivers - which is where a HUD (even simple ones projecting onto a screen) are helpful. They'll probably soon be mandatory, for 'safety' if there's a big display fitted!
appreciated!
u said it politely but yr facial expression more honest.
I'm looking at cars around this pricing section and really like the Mazda 2. I have done a test drive already and loved it there! But to make a good decision I'm also looking at all the other options in this range, besides the Ford Fiesta and Seat Ibiza, what are some cars I should certainly have a look at?

In Ireland base Mazda 2 costs €16k(17 at a dealer), 115ps engine not even available, hud not available and probably a lot of other things... Ireland expensive unfortunately
@2:33 Has anyone noticed my Grandpa through the window ?! :D
it is weird why more manufacturers are not offering adaptive cruise as an option. Lack of it is a deal breaker. For example Hyundai does it correctly, every Ioniq has it standard.
Very good review. Thumbs up
I think I found my next car. Your review is A+
Thanks!
You are NOT going to notice G vectoring on the sort of shallow curves you were testing on.
Seats and back windows are too narrow .
Honda fit/jazz still rules
Al cars bild in Japan, have there back wipers go the wrong way. check it.
very good review AJ
ca you do a mazda 2 pure white and the mazda2 demio pure black review?
+Dragon KingX thx! Do you think those will be very different?
i think so Because there is a hud display and a sport button
and more sporty looks i think that people want to know how it Reacts to the road in sport Option and if there is a different between the normal and the sport driving experience
....nice car for short people...not for taller northern europeans ;-)
Robert Zeebindie that’s why they get Volvo.
Great review! Esp with the acceleration part.. damn that sucks!! lol
Thanks!
cheers !
Use the gearbox. Change down
most detailed review I have ever seen on Mazda 2. well done
thanks, keep joining us!
No changes in the exterior? Even just slight cosmetic changes?
Just the little chrome details around the foglights are new, nothing more on the exterior.
5 litres per 100 kilometres is quite efficient considering the missing turbo
I liked this review, the reviewer gave me an indepth insight, well done!
What are you talking about, a turbo increases the fuel consumption.
thanks !
You'll see turbo a lot 2-3 years from now. You're wrong at "turbo increases the fuel consumption" its the other way around.
Sigh, I will never understand people who know nothing but think that for some reason they are an expert...
A turbo increases the power output of an engine, but at the same time also increases the fuel consumption.
How would adding a turbo to an engine decrease the consumption, how do you even get that completely absurd idea? The turbocharger has to be powered by the engine!
Less Engine Size = Less Friction (f=mu) = Less weight = More power to weight ratio :)
You're right about 2L engine vs 2L engine turbo, "expert". But how about 2L engine vs a 1L engine w/turbo.
They add turbocharger because they reduce the engine displacement, thus reducing fuel consumption "Sigh". That's why i said 2-3 years from now since turbo still has problems on regulating air to fuel ratio, but who knows how fast tech can go. Ford are currently on that Mr.who know nothing :)
They made a testing version of a Mazda 2 with electric drive in Japan. I would really consider a Mazda 2 EV over another Zoe when my lease on my current one runs out in 2018. Still only one B segment EV.... maybe all the way until 2020 at this rate.
Mazda2 EV would be awesome!
So, am I right in noticing they aren't sold in America anymore?
Lol I'll find it on Google within 4 minutes, not sure why I asked.
never mind :)
CD rom?
I just realized at the end of the video that you were at a Mazda museum. One of the car journalists from my country visited a Mazda museum with his Mazda 323 TXL. Did you see him?
we quite often meet other journalists at those events!
I was hoping his rare car would stand out. But he probably didn't take it on press day.
You can G-vector with your right foot

Been looking for a small automatic car and almost ordered a new Mazda 2 but found a very low mileage Peugeot 208 GTline
1.2 pure-tec. After seeing your review I am glad I bought the Peugeot the engine is great, instant performance and more stylish
than the Mazda which seems much slower.
Great review, keep up the good work.
appreciated, recommend us!
Yeah but Peugeot is not reliable as Mazda
I see a few CX3 cars parked around the place. Does that get a facelift too?
yeah with same changes
I nearly bought a Sport Nav 90 or 115 petrol in the uk.
it had to me a lot of extras as standard,it of course requires an old school way to drive it as in use the revs rather than the Turbo.
I achieved 50 mpg which was disappointing on test drive coming from a 2008 polo Blue motion which does around 65-80 mpg.
In the end Bought an Audi A1 with comfort pack but at least they told me a new A1 was due out 2018 but there was no word from the Mazda Dealer about a mid term refresh.
incidentally the A1 gives 54-60 mpg if you are careful with its petrol engine.
avoid the 75 mazda its a gutless thing.
WTF where is big tacho...
No android and Apple car play = no buy from me.
That's too bad, this car is impressive otherwise.
where is the location?
What to chose? The nice to drive Mazda 3, the new and quite nice and big Ibiza, or the pretty Clio?
Mazda3 facelift review coming up!
And Ibiza review here: ua-cam.com/video/89_INeb0_Ps/v-deo.html
oh sorry, i meant mazda 2
Autogefühl very much looking forward to it!
pretty Clio? I find it very ugly but it is very good value for money. Ibiza looks the best in my opinion, and has the most kit if you go with most options and FR spec. Mazda 2 has an interior above this league, it is so good in that top trim level, but the exterior is a bit of a let down...
I always found the latest Clio very good looking. Though, beauty is in the eye of the beholder
this Mazda looks great. Too bad that current Mazdas are made out of paper 😢
Also, what I don't understand in Japanese cars: nowadays when you have all those buttons on the steering wheel to control the on-board computer, they still put this idiotic button to reset data next to the speedometer, so you have to reach it every time you want to reset your odometer. why not access it on the steering wheel already?
Łukasz Stasierowski Made out of paper but perform well in reliability standings? Okay then..
Easily one of the best cars in this segment. That said Mazda have missed an opportunity to tweak the looks of this car. Aside from LED foglights and chrome surrounds this car is identical to the pre facelift. They could have surely re styled the bumpers or added new wheels at least. I have never liked that large lower black panel on the rear bumper. Some personalisation options and sporty options would help this car look a bit bolder and sportier. A neat car otherwise though.
Agreed. That interior in "kizoku intense" spec is easily the best in the segment in terms of looks and quality. Those leather seats and trim on the dash and doors are gorgeous. Also, having head-up display, keyless entry, start/stop button and tons of safety kit as standard, makes this car so impressive for the price. You can get these and more features in the new ibiza and polo, which look better in my opinion, but expect the price to go up alot as you add all these options.
Exterior looks a bit outdated specially those rear tailights, very old fashioned when you compare them with a 208 for example.. But you can make up for that by adding some parts mazda offers, for example, a spoiler and sideskirts (and even stickers, if you're a fan), making this mazda more sportier. If I had this spec in my country, I would instantly buy one in white or pearl white color with black spoiler and sideskirts, looks amazing...
Have they added the android auto?
Check it here about the new updated system: ua-cam.com/video/JqLAruSyPQQ/v-deo.html
You need to learn about Gears and Revs, and Torquebands
My 2 car garage would be:
White Rolls Royce Dawn
Yellow Lamborghini Hurucan Spyder Rwb
In this segment i would choose the Mazda 2, great car and good looks or second choise the new Nissan Micra.
Kien Fung I am really curious about how new Ford Fiesta turns out though. Currently Mazda 2 is my favourite in the segment.
What the hell is a Mazda 2
It is really boring!
