    Hi Davie, another fishing season gone here on the rock and I got to try some different flies of your design with some decent results. The salmon fishing here came to a stop due to low water and high temps and no salmon I released a couple early! so I took to trouting and had a blast. That fly will definitely be a good trouter; thanks to you I am using the super glue 2 and great stuff.....cheers

    I’m new to fly fishing,love tying flies ,would I be correct in saying you fish this below water ?

    • @DavieMcPhail
      @DavieMcPhail  16 днів тому

      Hi @otts69,
      Yes it is fished below the surface though if you use a floatant on it it will stay on the surface for a bit before it starts to sink so it a very good pattern for adult midge or even caddis flies as well as emerging flies...I'm glad you like the flies..
      All the very best Davie

    Great looking fly as always mate. But can you go down like to a 14 or say size 16 and still look right? Best Regards Ken

    • @DavieMcPhail
      @DavieMcPhail  6 років тому +1

      Hi Ken,
      A size 14 would be OK but you could push it down to a size 16 if you watch what you are doing especially on this style of hook..I'm glad you like the fly..

    So Davy what colour did you dye the rusty brown hackle. Was it a yellow dye

    • @DavieMcPhail
      @DavieMcPhail  Рік тому

      Hi Paul,
      Hot orange then a little fiery brown this will give you a lovely bright rusty/fiery brown..Or you can dye a natural ginger hot orange which is another way to get a stunning colour..If you use a yellow you will get a golden olive..
      All the very best Davie

    Davie, I have a question. After using the flies for awhile, wouldn't the super glue give way by the water softening the adhesive qualities, making the fly fall apart?

    • @DavieMcPhail
      @DavieMcPhail  6 років тому +1

      Hi Terryll Monroe,
      I've always found the superglue to hold the materials really well though I would finish a head off with a clear coat of varnish to seal it though you can't do this with the rib. I have never had any problems so far but I'm not saying that it wouldn't happen as it could..I also use a fine wire at times to protect a mylar rib either by winding on top of the mylar or counter ribbing it..Many thanks for the question...
      All the very best Davie

    Nice fly Davie!! Have you got a good black beetle pattern? They are as rare as hens teeth in my local shops.

    • @DavieMcPhail
      @DavieMcPhail  6 років тому

      Hi Chris,
      I have put a playlist of patterns I have on youtube which I would recommend when beetles are on the water, I hope these are of some help to and I'll hopefully add a few more over the weeks..
      All the very best Davie...

    Hi Davie,
    Stupid question but is this a wet fly ?

    • @DavieMcPhail
      @DavieMcPhail  6 років тому

      Hi Gareth,
      It is mostly fished wet but you can easily bring it up with a floatant and fish in on or just below the surface..
      All the very best Davie..

      Davie McPhail thanks, I thought it was a wet but the hopper legs had me confused. I guess it would be good as the top dropper in a team.
