Hey Gordon. Huge fan. Over 14 years ago, I watched your review of the Nikon D3000. It later became my first DSLR. I'm now a cinematographer shooting on the Sony FX6. Just wanted to say thank you for starting me on this journey!
I'm impressed by the build quality and features. This camera seems like a durable and versatile option...I am a huge fan of canon camera's its lovely sir
Really interested in a dynamic range test with the c400 c80 c70 and the new R5ii to see if the picture quality is really that different compare to the mirrorless camera
I’m quite interested in this camera. I’ve been mulling over the upgrade to a C400 as a big brother to my C70 but this seems to be a great middle ground. I am curious as to the frame rate options. Can you record 4k full frame at the 60p in 422 10bit? Is this downsampled or is it line skipped? Thanks! Lookin forward to the the full review!
Thoughts on whether to get ther R5C or Canon C80? Wanting the best option for corporate, interviews, events, weddings lifestyle and advertising etc What would be your reccomendation?
Personally I didn't like the hybrid aspect of the R5C, it felt like 2 cameras in one with different menus. If you're only filming video, I'd get the C80 in preference. PS - if you're planning on buying at B&H, please consider going via my links!
The AF is same as the C400, so more sophisticated than the C70. It can apparently detect human body shapes, but I only noticed a face frame when composing. And yes it has an animal AF mode, I show the menu and a demo in the video. I think it was discerning their faces rather than their whole bodies, but I can't remember 100%
@@cameralabs the DGO of the c70 has some magic to it that this doesnt have. Cleaner shadows and better highlight rolloff. It just "feels" better and less sterile. Adding the speed booster gives it the full frame look and DOF as well. I do like the sharpness of this and would love an oversampled DGO sensor. I just don't think Canon can process DGO at full frame yet, it's a much larger sensor.
@@RayValdezPhotography Do you own a c70? It has its unique look that comes out in certain situation, like high DR scenes, and looks beautiful when underexposed. different than any other Canon sensor that I've used.
Very good review as usual. One ask I would have, is that when you zoom into the color chart to compare noise levels, include the zoom percentage on screen. Because the fact that you're zooming into an image, you're automatically increasing the size of the noise. Including the percentage of zoom would help us determine what we can expect in real world use. Thank you!
The real question: how will this compare against the Red Komodo X whose price got slashed and even lower prices in 2nd hand? Yes one is FF and one is S35 but still...
Komodo X has a great image but even at the reduced price still costs a lot more than a C80 when you add in all the extra bits required to actually use it - also no NDs or useable AF.
@@cameralabs yeah, but probably I missed the chart. Amyway I think 180fps is more than enough, nothing to comolain about. Thinking twice I have to admit that 10x slow motion would be used very rarely.

All 4k up to 60p is oversampled from 6k. I'm sure there's a 422 10 bit option at 60p too, but you'd have to check the menus and web specs
This is by far my favorite camera gear review channel. I love what you do Gordon, Thanks!
Thanks, I very much appreciate that!
Thanks for the video! Quick question, can you film at 1fps in slow and fast mode? If not, what is the least FPS available? Thanks in advance!
Sorry I'm not sure
I was definitely thinking the C400 was a tad too big and packed with extras I wouldn’t need for my use cases. This camera seems perfect.
It does strike a really good balance
really great review, Gordon. Do you think the R5ii can compete with the C80 in 4k?
Yes, I'd say so, definitely in 4k HQ mode where it's oversampled from 8k, albeit only up to 30p

Hello and thank you for your content.
Do we lose dynamic range or megapixels when switching to Super 35 for 4K?
What are the drawbacks?
Thank you !
Sorry I didn't test super 35 yet
Those noise tests are insane
It is a beautiful object.
The Big Question, Which image looks better? The C80 or the C400?
They should look the same
Does the Sony FX3 or GH7 with XLR adapters better sound via XLR?
I have no idea, I've not tested that
How do you deal with it not having cf express type b slots? What sd card do you use?
Didn't I talk about this in the video?! I use SanDisk Extreme Pro, which worked fine even with internal RAW.

I believe it's only for data out and maybe power in, although it wouldn't work with my chargers.
Does 'EF-EOS R 0.71x adapter' work with this camera?
Maybe in a crop mode, but remember this is a full-frame sensor designed for full-frame lenses
