- Bonjour!

In today's video I am meeting with Arielle in Paris and we share our honest experiences on moving to France: the good, the bad, the ugly AND the magical! There are some differences between France and our native countries (The Netherlands and Canada) but we also discover that we don't have exactly the same experience since we're not from the same country.
If you have any questions for us, if you're planning to move here or anything we feel we can share about, don't hesitate to leave your question in a comment. I hope you found this helpful!
Love,
Marloes

Dear Marloes, you made this conversation so sympathetic and open. Having lived myself in France your interpretation opened my eyes about the french psychology
I was able to rent an appartment in Paris in 2018 for 6 winter months. It was wonderful to enjoy capital city life again, as I live in the Normandy country side. My flat was lovely, bright, warm, large and well equipped, in the 10th, near to the Canal St Martin, just opposite ligne 7 of the metro. I visited every arrondissements, and outside Paris too as I had a carte Navigo 5 zones. I ate in gorgeous restaurants like Le Train Bleu, and little bistrots and bars, visited many of Paris wonderful places like the Opera Garnier, the Synagogue de la Victoire, the Grand Mosque, Belleville gardens, Chapeau rouge gardens, La Campagne a Paris, St Denis Basilica, Vincenne Chateau, Versailles, Chantilly, Barbizon, passages couverts, big stores, marchés, Orangerie museum and many others, I did, saw, and enjoyed so much ! Prices have gone up by 60% for rentals since then, which makes me glad that I did it at that time.. renting in Paris is quite a palaver.
That sounds just lovely!
Trust me things have changed since 2018....it is disgusting!!!
That was so fun and enlightening. I’ve forwarded it to my granddaughter who is dating a young man from Nice. His family has been so welcoming to her and to her grandfather and me but we have a reason to be connected - the love birds. She is studying to be a special education teacher and hopes to teach in France, so the comments about students making mistakes was rather shocking! Here in the US, we see that mistakes are made often when risks are taken and these are opportunities for learning. Thank you for sharing this interesting and informative conversation with us.
I am sure she’s managing the differences in the education system really well, especially having more in depth knowledge of the French culture because of her boyfriend’s family!
@ You are so right. They have been so helpful in showing her the French perspective, and given, as you know, that her grandfather is Peruvian, she is well open and welcoming to cultural idiosyncrasies; finds them fascinating rather than threatening and embraces them. In fact, it was her Peruvian grandfather that introduced her to France 3 years ago. Hahaha! Imagine a girl from small town Wisconsin - her high school friends are left mouths a gap!
I watch both your channels and was just recently thinking you should have a crossover! Lovely conversation, great to see you two together. Arielle should come and visit you in the countryside soon.
Glad to hear you like it! Yes we sure hope to meet up in my area sometime!
I spent such a wonderful day with you Marloes, you are such a ray of sunshine ☀ this video brings such a huge smile to my face ! ❤See you soon in Burgundy 😉
Mooi Marloes en ook informatief voor mensen die willen verhuizen naar Frankrijk🧡
You and Arielle 🤩 l watch her videos too!
Happy to hear you enjoyed this video!
My 2 favorites video bloggers from France!💃💃👌👏🫶💚💜🩵
Yay!!!! 🙌🙌
Oh, Marloes, that was so beautiful video! I think for such a life change one have to be "mature" enough or crazy enough .-) If I would make decisions just for myself I would love to experience this as well, maybe one day..But on the other hand to be a tourist in our time and having the possibilities to explore every possible piece of world is charming as well! Thanks fot the honest chat, it was very fun to watch it!
Happy to hear you liked it!
I have been living in France for more than 50 years and I Can count one one hand the friends I have here.
I don't think we necessarily need many friends, at least I don't, being an introvert... How do you feel about this?
@FrenchCountryLife
Yes,I agree and the few friends I made was through my profession and we have a lot in common spritually, and that's important for me.
@@mollydumas759 yes that is the most important thing. I am so happy to hear you've found such dear friends.
Thanks ❤@@FrenchCountryLife
@@FrenchCountryLife
I agree! I am an easy, outgoing person so it’s easy to have many “ friends” , but to have true friends is another thing no matter where you live. Thankfully I don’t really need or want a lot of friends. To have a couple truly loyal friends is a blessing!
How nice it was to see you with Arielle another vlogger i follow. Thank you for taking us with you through Paris! Can you please reveal what brand your beautiful tote bag is?
I’ll have to ask Arielle! Glad you enjoyed this video!
it looks like it says Jimmy Fairly? I am so not fashionable... have no idea who that is LOL
Hai Marloes, wat een sympathieke vriendin en wat een prettig gesprek. Ik zal zeker haar channel bekijken, maar jij blijft mijn favoriet 🙂
Great video this morning. I very much enjoyed it. Have a great weekend. Take care. ❤
Thanks!
I follow both of you. It was a nice video. Thank you.
Very informative
Girl talk in Paris, enjoyable and informative 👍😃🗼
Favourite saying in New Zealand "she'll be right" or "no worries".
Completely different culture 🤗
We love the romance of France...the baguettes and croissants but a reality check is tres important aussi. Merci! The grass is always greener as we say in the US, and I always say...life is a trade-off so one needs to know the pros and cons.
Wonderful portrayal by you and your guest. Excellent video.
thank you
In Spain we eat a tradicional cake in january the 6th , to celebrate the Three Wise Men’ day and we also hide little presents or a dry bean inside the cake. If you get the bean, you are blessed with good luck ( and you pay the cake)😉
Haha, you pay the cake. That’s a good one!
What an enjoyable conversation!
Would love to move to France but that’s not realistic for us.
Maybe a visit some day!
Til then I enjoy my beautiful, little life in Florida 🦩💕
I hope my and Arielle's videos help you to virtually travel to France and spend time with us here in France!
I just watched one of her videos, and yes, I love that I can virtually enjoy France with you both! 💕
I believe that the city of Paris and the rest of France are two different experiences. I am not a city person, so I think I would enjoy the slower paced small French towns or countryside better. (Though I still would love to visit Notre Dame and the Louvre.)
They sure are!
I agree we Northern Europeans move to a different beat. I love the complaining though, I loved to see you both at the Canal St Martin I remember eating a Flan aux Poires near that very same spot before it was trendy many years ago… 😊
As I was listening to you speak to one another, I couldn’t help but think that some of the questions you posed and observations you made would be different were you interviewing someone from Montréal or Québéc City. I shared similar experiences in terms of cultural adjustment moving from Montréal to Toronto. Similarly, you made a number of references to North America. I have now been living in the U.S. for just over 30 years and I experienced some significant adjustments living here vs Canada. These are both huge countries and there are significant differences within each and one from the other based on geography alone. I found your interview interesting.
vidéo très sympa 😊🤍🌻
Merci beaucoup!
In America we have a King Cake at Mardi Gras. Whoever gets the baby in the king cake is King or Queen for the day or good luck for the year.
Thanks for sharing!
As a couple who has moved from Australia in their 60s to start a new life all over in Europe we think it's best not to over analyse everything. Just treat yourself to some Debauve & Gallais chocolate which is best eaten in the Jardin du Luxembourg. 🙂
:)
You’re so brave and I envy you. We’re Aussies and in our 70s and 80s so too late for us to move now. We have, however, been able to visit France a few times. The best was when we hired a canal boat. You must try it!
I really love France, and visit the countryside often but France isnt Paris. I used to go to Paris a lot 15 years ago and it was cleaner and more pleasant. I dont know what area youre sitting in, was it mentioned. I absolutely hate the graffiti everywhere on every surface its awful. I love the smaller towns and cities where graffiti hasnt defaced and destroyed the architecture and streets of France. Thanks for the visit
This was on canal Saint Martin in Paris
Great video Marloes 😊 It was interesting to listen to each of your respective comments about life & experiences in France.
Glad you enjoyed it!
The girl was not correct - Galette des rois in France is for the religious day Epiphany, 6th of January. The story she told is on google and from a Canadian site. This may be true for Canada but not France. Perhaps it proves a point that it is better to take a tour from someone French/local.
Thank you for this informative video! I enjoyed it! 😊
All that graffiti is pretty ugly not what I expected
Paris has many faces
@@FrenchCountryLife. That is not a good face. Beautiful city with ugly graffiti. Hope it gets cleaned up. Merci 😊
Thanks for the great analysis and helping us understand French people. I’d never want to move to France for various reasons. A pessimistic, negative, complaining , unfriendly, inefficient cultural norm is not for me.
I did take French classes for a year but give me Spanish or English any day, every day!
Why are French so freaked out to learn English, I wonder? Their language is the only one in the world, seems to be their attitude.
Who is doing the filming for this video?
yikes that's a lot of graffiti
This is Paris too!
@FrenchCountryLife the architecture is nice but all that graffiti really shattered the aura
@@respawniconI get that and I agree. I feel Paris has changed a lot, there is more dirt in the streets and just overall the vibe is different than 20 years ago. It will never lose its charm to me but it is striking.
I loved this video, the talks and the scenery. Just beautiful ❤❤❤
This video didn't do it for me...Had no substance. No need to watch someone talking about their life in Paris..In my opinion Paris is filthy with the stench of urine. The last time I was there, garbage was overflowing on the sidewalks and crime has escalated .....maybe your next video will be better.
You’re always leaving your negative comments just unsubscribe
The graffiti on the walkway needs to go
It will be back the next day! This is Paris too!
@@FrenchCountryLife In the US its always the leftists who do this they have no respect for themselves or the country they live in.
Original copies ….hmmm
