There was a time were this video was regional locked, maybe all world except Germany. Anyway, I will gladly turn my dislike in a like now.
Rather it's just because it's cheesy, and not too good. But the guy really can sing, and doesn't need to use playback for other than technological reasons. He can sing his songs a capella and does it well (even after decades of alcoholism).
That's the difference between the oldschool performers and modern ones: even a guy who didn't take his career seriously, and spent years destroying himself, could actually do something, just because he was from the old days, while now 'singers' often can't sing at all.
I like this guy, back then maybe not, but now he has a huge distance to himself, he can actually sing quite well (the Jekyll&Hyde performance was great), and he could even do some stuntdriving on his own.
A bit pity he didn't have a manager to find him some good songwriters and push him to some good movies. He's a natural comedian, but he also always had potential to do something serious.
