Sad it took people THIS LONG to realize this. It's always mostly been about the brothers; Elena was just an obstacle in their way imo. The love triangle between those three kept it interesting maybe for the first 3 or 4 seasons, but after that it was just like meh.

It wasn't about Elena, it wasn't about the love triangle. The show truly was about two brothers journey to find love and peace. It was about these two brothers and that last scene just made my heart so happy
They had to make it about that because the Delena love story was so weak and trash. Who thinks its romantic to end up with someone that broke your brother's neck right in front of your face? Elena wasn't even a real character after she became a vampire. She never acted the same, just soulless and thoughtless.
You can't say that TVD wasn't about Elena; that's ignorant. It's about Elena and the Salvatore brothers; each of them had their own story to tell and how they're intertwined with each other.
Sara Canning is a terrific actress. She's Elena's aunt. (She is also the baby Mama to Dean winchester's in supernatural) I do believe both shows didn't let her to continue her roles. But then again. I think they killed all parents off on Vampire So the kids would look more of adult ages
I'm a man but I'd cried so bad watching this last episode which made me call to my girlfriend to comfort me at night and I couldn't help how bad this last episode made me feel. I was sad, hollow, and wrecked. although the only thing I will KEEP it's the nostalgic and souvenirs of The vampire diaries Thank you guys for everything I'll miss it.
Do what the show says meet people, face life , live it with the ones you love and just live. You'd be s uprising how amazing it can be when you don't let the unimportant stuff take up most of your life
for everyone that doesn't understand: damon and elena get married and have a long, happy life together. when they die, they get to see their families again, but they are together too. heaven is where everyone is together and everyone is at peace.

Heaven is eternal, and while they grew old and loved and had a happy life, they were reunited, walking in peace on the road. Damon let go of Elena's hand so she could be with her family and he could reunite with his. it was a beautiful moment. I get so tired of people complaining. if you dislike the show so much, DONT WATCH IT. it really gave me everything I wanted in the episode. Delena, Defan, Bonnie getting to live, Stefan's redemption, and peace with all their love ones. if Stefan was Damon's only peace then why did Stefan see Lexi. They are all each other's peace.
I'm glad TVD ended with Damon and Stefan reuniting and not some cheesy scene with Delena becuase in my eyes TVD was always more about brotherly love,the love between the Salvatore brothers,how they managed to pull through all the obstacles(including falling in love with the same girl) and finding peace together at last.If you ask me,the love between Damon and Stefan was way more realistic and significant than Delena Stelena or all tht stuff.Because at the end of the day,they love each other more than anyone else.

This is one of those shows when you wish you could forget you watched this and do it all over again. The ending is simply heart wrenching, especially the first time you see it.
OMG! I'm always thinking the same thing. I just wanna be brain washed from remembering everything that has happened; Stefan and Elena breaking up, Caroline and Stefan dating, Elena dying. I'm totally ready for them to make a second TVD, starring Elena, Damon, and there children. Heck, maybe even Stefan, Alaric, Caroline, Bonnie, Lizzie, Josie, etc.

I have a goosebumps when I saw Elena's reunion with her families. I ever had this weird dream about me reunited with my family in the afterlife too, when in real life, my sister and my dad were already dead, but me and my mother are still alive. It's like a trauma or something I can't describe. I don't know, the scene reminds me so much of my dream.

Katherine Pierce Ian is a actor! He should be professional! It is ur job and u have fans' expectations. Being natural and genuine when acting with Nina cannot even be seen as a sacrifice. There're actors who are straight and married playing homo in the show. However, they could make 100% dedication to the role. It is acting! Great actor should separate acting from real life! If he just wanted to show his wife that he has no feeling for Nina by presenting this weak acting, okay, he could be a good husband but not a good actor. There r fans waiting for this ending moment for so long. Writers did even sacrifice other shippers' wish. Fans don't deserve this weak ending by his poor way of handling scenes.
Am I the only one who felt like the last episode of the series should have been like maybe 2 hours long? So they could have had the last epic battle to save mystic falls and then more time for everyone to really say goodbye, that's just my opinion. I loved it regardless but it felt like it went too fast
Jon Cox TVD would have had another season had it been Nina (Eleana) didn't leave and Eleana is the main protagonists of the show so basically the show's success revolves around her and things can't function as well without her and not to mention the fact that Julia tried to make TVD do ok without Eleana but the fans didn't like it as much and if you look in previous episodes everyone always asks where is Eleana, when is she coming back. So yeah TVD lost most of its publicity. Kat Graham (bonnie) was interviewed and she basically implied (from my understanding) that it was Nina's fault for leaving and they couldn't continue to do the show without her even tho she did love the show and that's why she decided that she was going to leave TVD after season eight and she convinced everyone (Paul, Ian, Candice etc.....) to leave too. So Julia tried to make TVD run as normal without Eleana but it just wasn't working, so if Nina hadn't left there would probably be a season 9 or 10 😭😭😭😭
When Stephan sees Lexy and says “I was feeling epic” That’s when it actually hit me... this journey is coming to an end. Many didn’t like the ending, but it gave me closure. This series, although flawed, was beautiful. I can’t believe tvd is over 😭

I just love the ending. The contrast between the first few episodes when Damon arrived at the Salvatore house and how Stefan reacted, “Damon”. Now in the afterlife when he gets to see Stefan again 7 seasons later, and after all they’ve been through together, Stefan says “Damon. My little brother.” Honestly, so beautiful. They’ve come so far and the ending made me cry. This show is so tempting to watch again, even when it is 8 seasons long.
Damon was *equally* a good man as Stefan. The writers def did this as a ~shock~ to the audience that we definitely didn’t need. But anyone who says one of the brothers was better than the other is W R O N G

If you look at it, even tho Stelena wasn't endgame, the writers always wrote beautiful scenes and storylines for them. Even in this final episode, Stelena was the mvp compared to the dry Delena scenes.

This ending wasn’t the worst thing ever. I mean it shows that Damon and Elena grew old together, Elena became a Dr or nurse like she wanted, they could have had kids, also when they are in the afterlife they are young because it says when you pass away there won’t be any more pain or aging and you’ll become your purest/best age. So that explains why they are “young”.. so you never know they could appear in The Legacies or maybe their child will?
I have got to say, I loved how Elena reunited with her family. Its all she ever really wanted. Her grief and loss was so prominent even from the very first episode. This was a perfect ending for her, even more than an ending with Damon. And Defan are the real endgame, which is the most beautiful part of the show in my opinion. Damon and Stefan's love for one another.

I think what people were referring to was how Damon barely reacted to Elena after seeing her for the first time in years. We've seen Ian pull off some pretty decent acting moments over the years and what should have been an emotionally gratifying union seemed like an obligatory one

I literally burst into tears when John stepped out. That was the moment that got me crying more than anything else in the finale. He gave his life for Elena, and to see them reunited happy was beautiful.

Of course like almost everyone else I didn’t like him at first BUT I remember crying so much in the second season finale when he died sacrificing himself for his daughter and wrote her this letter saying weither your reading this as a vampire or human I will love you and I always did. I think he deserves it so much to be with her in the end !!!
Such a perfect way to end the show. Stefan receiving the redemption he desperately wanted, and reuniting with his best friend. Bonnie living her life to the fullest in honor of Enzo. Damon and Elena being reunited and living out their lives together, and after their deaths, getting to be with their families. Caroline and Alaric starting the school for their girls and others as unique as them (and receiving a donation from Klaus). I feel as if every character got exactly what they needed for their individual personalities. Ending it with the iconic "Hello, brother" was fitting. And the lessons of this TV show: "FAMILY FIRST", "THE PROMISE OF PEACE IS THAT ONE DAY, AFTER A LONG LIFE, YOU WILL FIND YOUR BELOVED ONES AGAIN". That was EPIC
But after all of this Caroline is Alone forever. When Alaric and the girls will dies she will be alone forever I don't think it's a good ending for everyone .. :'(
Forever is a long - long term! Life is so unpredictable, you never know what comes in the corner. That's the beauty of the life, and as Elena said, the pain is the lost of living like love its how we know we're alive. She can go and find Klaus, who always wanted to be her last love. If not, life will give her opportunities to fall in love again. There in no "only one love", as long as you let yourself free to fall in love again. Cause at the end of all, life goes on no matter what.
There was a fan written ending that I read which came out at the end of season 6 when Elena was put in the coffin, that would've been a better ending. To sum it up, it went like this: years passed and Damon opens the coffin and Elena wakes up. After being reunited, they talk about the lives of everyone and how they are. Damon tells her that Stefan and Caroline got married and are traveling the world. Matt became sheriff and started rebuilding a better relationship with his father. Tyler returned to mystic falls and took over as mayor, where he and Matt maintained a close friendship. Alaric continued working as a college professor, teaching the occult, of course. Bonnie and Jeremy decided to start dating again, which ended up with them marrying and having kids in mystic falls. Bonnie died after living a long life and Jeremy, at an old, is still alive. Damon takes her to see him and they have a heartfelt reunion. Damon then takes the cure and they live their human lives together. Another fast forward into the future and Caroline and Stefan are back in mystic falls, in front of 2 tomb stones that belong to Damon and Elena, where they leave flowers for them. They get into Stefan's car and decide to drive by the high school for memory sake. That when they see two familiar faces; a boy and girl. The dopplegangers of Stefan and Elena. And their story starts how it began.
jo He would have a doppelganger the same way Katherine had Elena in the beginning. As long as the bloodline continues, it will occur. Stefan would have his other human relative (the one he killed this season but let's say this ending happens after season 6) to carry on his bloodline. But this is what I think will explain that.
+jo Stefan is dead. He's a vampire. There was a human doppelgänger, the doctor, the one Enzo killed in Season 5. That death would have triggered another doppelganger.
So this means everyone dies and goes to heaven. Stefan, Damon, Elena, Bonnie, Enzo and the rest and Caroline is left all alone on earth eventually. that's just sad. :(
I'm with you on that haha. I was all of season 8 all night and at the very last episode ever at like 4 or 5 am I was bawling and literally crying so loud I had to gasp for air. Especially when they played the song never say never by the fray. I lost it then. I'm gonna miss this show so badly
E W yesss. I honestly hate DELENA I didn't see much of a bond with them the way I see Stephan and Elena have THREW OUT THE SHOW. I love Damon but he was low key an ass to her, breaking up with her, turning her humanity off, telling her to leave when he is mad I didn't see nothing besides the fact that she changed him it looked toxic .. second I don't think he should've been with Elena I feel like they Katherine should've changed for good and him and katherine should've been together like he's been wanting since forever or someone else. And Caroline shouldve changed klaus like she kinda did because THEY had a real bond a romance. Caroline is way not stephans type in character. Or maybe even Matt. The pairing wasn't that compatible in my opinion
This ending was pretty good, but it was so rushed. They wasted so much time on the silly drama and the "oh no!" of Mystic Falls blowing up. I honestly would've been happy if they spent an hour in this episode JUST saying goodbye instead of seeing them take on a pathetic, helpless version of Katherine who literally just let herself die over and over. Bonnie blocking the hellfire was great, but the Katherine scenes were done so poorly. They should've spent at least half the episode giving us meaningful goodbyes (Jeremy and Elena? Siblings? No? Bonnie and Jeremy? Caroline's goodbye to elena?) Smh
They had to seriously rush filming which caused them to miss many avenues that they wanted to explore, and leave out several characters too. In fact, they didn't actually finish filming this episode until February of this year.
"Damon." "Hello, brother." First and last words they say to each other on the show. Same words, completely different emotions. I'm so glad I stuck with TVD all this time, even though the last few seasons weren't the best. This last episode had me crying the entire time. So emotional. I know a lot of people weren't satisfied with the ending because there wasn't an epic Delena reunion or whatever with fireworks, but I thought it was perfect. It shows that the show wasn't just about them. It was about Stefan and Caroline and Bonnie and Matt and Enzo and everyone else we've come to love throughout the 8 seasons. TVD was a combination of things: weird, messy, complicated, sad, wonderful, amazing but above all uncontrolably and undeniably EPIC.

This episode had some good scenes to it but not enough closure at all , no matt and Tyler scene , Jeremy with Elena ? Stefan and klaus ? Damon and Alaric ? Damon and Bonnie ? They missed so many scenes . Should have made the actual episode 2 hours instead of the hour recap of all the seasons before this episode

I think because they died human, the ending was in a way their personal "heaven" if that makes sense... and she says they grow old together.. so the new show doesn't technically start after they die, cause then the timeline wouldn't add up. It just showed THEIR ending, after living full human lives together. I'm pretty sure they're still alive but older in the new show Legacy's, but they would be slightly older, and probably won't appear in the show. Also in The Originals, when Elijah and Hope are sitting outside, it shows the door of a building that says "Dr.Elena Gilbert" so I'm sure they'll be plenty of references to the original characters even if they're not officially apart of the new shows cast.
He wanted to be with Elena and just like she couldn't stand living forever without her soul mate and asked Alaric to compel her memories of loving him away- Damon didn't want to live on forever after Elena had died. So in that sense he did want to be human as he said " for us".
He didn't want to be a vampire, he didn't want to die a human and go to hell so he wanted to remain immortal, fearing his soul is damned. If I remember correctly, stephan turned first and asked Damon to turn, tricking him 🤔 might have been the other way around idk but point is neither of them signed up for vampirism with all the info and while stephan tried to be good, Damon just assumed he was destined for the fires 🔥
You know what, this show is the best! I have felt so many emotions throughout the show and I finished watching it today and I’ve never cried and had so many emotions over a tv show and I can never find a show this amazing... the vampire diaries will always be my favourite show❤️

Elena is reading saying after our long happy life together damon doesn't know if he will see Stefan again, worried. That's why he smiles like that and when he disappears it's so he can go get that peace and she gets hers, but they are already in afterlife together. Stop trying to tie their personal with the show, they are real people. I thought it was all appropriate for the episode and it's meaning
This video has just come up in my suggested and I watched it and burst out in tears. This show really knows how to make you love all of the characters and pull on your heartstrings. Even after not watching this for a while, I still feel so sad. Definitely need to give the series a rewatch again. A series that never gets old.

I think this show takes so much criticism but it was entertaining, full of twists, made us care (sometimes obsess😂) about each character and relationship. I'm not saying it was perfect but it was awesome. The ending was perfect though. Gonna miss it so much ❤

Stephen forcing Damon to drink blood, to become a vampire in the first place, so he wouldn’t be alone. Juxtaposed with him giving Damon the cure, allowing his brother & Elena to live out a happy, human life together. A beautiful ending in my humble opinion. Damon and Stephen were the true protagonists of the series, and their love for each other was the heart.
The only thing that disappointed me in the finale is that they didnt give a dialogue to Delena. I mean, Damon saw the love of his life after three or more years, all healthy and beautiful, and he didn't even get to say, "I missed you," which makes me sad. I loved how they zoomed in onto her 'wedding' ring. I wish we could have gotten a glimpse of their married life, like with their kids. They deserved this much, after a long separation and so much pain. I miss Vampire Diaries so much. This end scene makes me cry just by thinking of it. #DelenaForever
Ian didn't even want Nina to return for the finale, and how unfair was that for the fans? Thank God Julie had the final word. I know they spun this in the media that there was no hard feelings between Ian and Nina, but Ian could not hide the fact that there were.
I watched a comic con video on you tube where he argues that she wasn't coming back...that Julie Plec promised him...Julie told him she must have been drunk then because promises were made that Nina would return for the finale if possible. You can watch it on you tube...type in Ian somerhalder disses Nina Dobrev's return for Vampire Diaries finale.. Watch it and tell me what you think!
Also, watch the reactions of all the other cast members. You can see how much they disagreed with Ian and how happy they were that Julie and Matt spoke up. Nina always said great things about Ian after their break up...this was very shallow of Ian. IMO

Im sad that they didn't end up together in the end, but I'd rather them have the scenes that they had than the ones delena had with their "endgame." I'm honestly not trying to sound rude I just felt like the stelena scenes were so much more epic and heartfelt than any other couple this episode. I'm proud to ship them :)
To be honest no matter what she says, you can tell Julie Plec has been playing favourites with Damon since basically the beginning. - Stefan has spent the entire 8 seasons trying to do what is right by everyone, the poor guy was a ripper since the beginning, he could have chosen to ignore it and just kill anyone he wants, but instead he chose to drink animal blood even though it tastes like shit. Over the seasons he has been forced to turn his humanity off and become a ripper repeatedly, which always leaves him guilty as fuck. His girlfriend then leaves him, because for some reason becoming a vampire made Elena love Damon more. He then dies with Caroline of all people seemingly being the most upset about it, then returns only to loose his brother in the process, this leads to him trying to start a new life, which is abruptly ended when his new girlfriend is killed by Enzo, who then proceeds to try ruining his life because he has been a 'bad wittle bwother' for not wallowing in self pity. He finds out he could of had a baby with Valerie only for it to get aborted by Julian, he watches his mother die, God the list really is fucking endless. Then is the last season when things are finally looking up for him, he gets forced to become an errand boy for Cade which results in him becoming a ripper and emotionless at the same time. The cure then gets forced into him yet again making him go on a guilt trip, along with every single person he has compelled making him remember all the shit he has done with his emotions turned off, which makes him a human target for everyone. And to end it all he sacrifices himself to save Damon a day after getting married. Oh yeah and during his last goodbye to Elena when he tells her he sacrificed himself, she essentially says "yeah, but Damon is alright isn't he?" - Damon wasn't a ripper, yet killed people regardless. He forced Stefan to become a ripper for years, killed more of his descendants then I dare count. Chose the easy option of shutting of his humanity so he didn't feel guilty about not saving Enzo, during this time he also ripped the person who Enzo loved head off (which apparently Enzo can forgive, but Stefan giving up on Damon is a big no no) He has basically been the cause of most of the problems throughout all 8 seasons. Oh yeah, when Elena didn't want to be around him he would throw a baby tantrum and kill people she cared about including her own brother. Whilst all this is going on he is also complaining about how Stefan gets everything whilst he gets nothing, he is suppose to be the older brother right? The least Julie Plec could have done was give Stefan a happy end with him staying as a vampire and live happily with Caroline. She could have worked in the human Elena and Damon happy life dabble without killing Stefan.
EloImFizzy A-FRIGGIN-MEN!!! BUTTTT I really do hope Caroline ends up with Klaus... The fact that she was the only vampire left just irks me. She didn't get the happy ending she deserved. Naturally, Elena's took over therefore stomping on hers. Klaus always saw her as nothing but what she had always been, a true gem. No one else saw it, not even herself until Klaus shed a light. Caroline's and Stefan's love was still beautiful, don't get me wrong. Let's not forget he rejected her right away. But this is what I think so many many people loved seeing about their blooming relationship, she got out of the so called "friend-zone". This relationship represented a "real-life" scenario. It wasn't some emotional high, mushy-gushy, thing that was full of passion. They had issues, real ones, and before they were lovers, they were best friends, which is exactly why most people fell in love with these two being together. On the other hand, Caroline is left all alone now, as the only vampire of ALL her best friends (unless she were to somehow find another dose of the cure which is HIGHLY unlikely-then again anything can obviously happen in Mystic falls). Caroline simply wanted to find the love of her life, and she didn't even get that with Stefan, meaning, that not even 24 hours into her marriage she never had to chance to be TRULY happy. It always ended in heartbreak for her. Whether it was Tyler or her mom, Caroline always got shoved aside. This was seen with Stefan, it was always a lose-lose for their relationship. She knew, she ALWAYS knew, that Stefan would always have to put Damon first, and vice versa. And that is exactly what we so sadly saw in the final episode. Stefan choosing his brothers happiness over his own, thus Caroline getting completely pooped on (for a legit reason, but it still was heartbreaking to see). She just wanted someone to chose her, make HER number one. And this is EXACTLY why I feel so many people have the weird, yet insanely deep appreciation and love for Klaus. He truly saw Caroline for what she deserved, and what she was REALLY worth. That's what love is. Finding the person who sees your good AND your bad (it's there, trust me), yet still desires to be with you, despite all of your shortcomings. So please, I BEG, let her find the one thing she was most afraid of NOT getting, a happily ever after with the love of her life. Maybe Klaus?? **edit Just to mention, from what I could observe, no one particularly enjoyed Caroline in the beginning of the series. She was rude, immature, emotional, and down right annoying. Then she changed. She became this person we all started rooting for. When Nina Dobrev (Elena) decided to leave the show....w it generally screwed A LOTTT of things up. But Caroline came in and added a whole new dimension. She along with Bonnie stepped up and took the female lead. They proved just how amazing the VPD's could still be without her. And to completely honest, having Elena back felt too long over due and almost unbalanced or unnatural. We knew she HAD to at some point, but it seemed so out of place. Sad to see it end like this.

I know loads of people have been complaining about a lack of passion between Ian and Nina...but I think a Delena reunion - no matter how passionate or not it was- is all hardcore delena fans could hope for. Just knowing that after a hell of an adventure, heartbreak and consuming passion, these two souls found eachother again and lived out the perfect lives that they had always imagined together...and found peace together...so I think everyone should stop complaining and just be grateful to have witness one of the most epic romances TV could've given us...TVDFOREVER

OMG! I'm always thinking the same thing. I just wanna be brain washed from remembering everything that has happened; Stefan and Elena breaking up, Caroline and Stefan dating, Elena dying. I'm totally ready for them to make a second TVD, starring Elena, Damon, and there children. Heck, maybe even Stefan, Alaric, Caroline, Bonnie, Lizzie, Josie, etc.

There r fans waiting for this ending moment for so long. Writers did even sacrifice other shippers' wish. Fans don't deserve this weak ending by his poor way of handling scenes.
Am I the only one who felt like the last episode of the series should have been like maybe 2 hours long? TVD would have had another season had it been Nina (Eleana) didn't leave and Eleana is the main protagonists of the show so basically the show's success revolves around her and things can't function as well without her and not to mention the fact that Julia tried to make TVD do ok without Eleana but the fans didn't like it as much and if you look in previous episodes everyone always asks where is Eleana, when is she coming back. So yeah TVD lost most of its publicity. Kat Graham (bonnie) was interviewed and she basically implied (from my understanding) that it was Nina's fault for leaving and they couldn't continue to do the show without her even tho she did love the show and that's why she decided that she was going to leave TVD after season eight and she convinced everyone (Paul, Ian, Candice etc.....) to leave too. So Julia tried to make TVD run as normal without Eleana but it just wasn't working, so if Nina hadn't left there would probably be a season 9 or 10 😭😭😭😭

I just love the ending. The contrast between the first few episodes when Damon arrived at the Salvatore house and how Stefan reacted, “Damon”. Now in the afterlife when he gets to see Stefan again 7 seasons later, and after all they’ve been through together, Stefan says “Damon. My little brother.” Honestly, so beautiful. They’ve come so far and the ending made me cry. This show is so tempting to watch again, even when it is 8 seasons long.
Stefan deserved better. He truly was the better man, no matter what he believed himself.

This ending wasn’t the worst thing ever. I mean it shows that Damon and Elena grew old together, Elena became a Dr or nurse like she wanted, they could have had kids, also when they are in the afterlife they are young because it says when you pass away there won’t be any more pain or aging and you’ll become your purest/best age. So that explains why they are “young”.. so you never know they could appear in The Legacies or maybe their child will?

I have got to say, I loved how Elena reunited with her family. Its all she ever really wanted. Her grief and loss was so prominent even from the very first episode. This was a perfect ending for her, even more than an ending with Damon. And Defan are the real endgame, which is the most beautiful part of the show in my opinion. Damon and Stefan's love for one another.

I think what people were referring to was how Damon barely reacted to Elena after seeing her for the first time in years. We've seen Ian pull off some pretty decent acting moments over the years and what should have been an emotionally gratifying union seemed like an obligatory one

I literally burst into tears when John stepped out. That was the moment that got me crying more than anything else in the finale. He gave his life for Elena, and to see them reunited happy was beautiful.
THANK YOU for saying that! I’m totally with you! He was one of my favorite and most loved characters since he left the show. Of course like almost everyone else I didn’t like him at first BUT I remember crying so much in the second season finale when he died sacrificing himself for his daughter and wrote her this letter saying weither your reading this as a vampire or human I will love you and I always did. I think he deserves it so much to be with her in the end !!!

Such a perfect way to end the show. Stefan receiving the redemption he desperately wanted, and reuniting with his best friend. Bonnie living her life to the fullest in honor of Enzo. Damon and Elena being reunited and living out their lives together, and after their deaths, getting to be with their families. Caroline and Alaric starting the school for their girls and others as unique as them (and receiving a donation from Klaus). I feel as if every character got exactly what they needed for their individual personalities. Ending it with the iconic "Hello, brother" was fitting. And the lessons of this TV show: "FAMILY FIRST", "THE PROMISE OF PEACE IS THAT ONE DAY, AFTER A LONG LIFE, YOU WILL FIND YOUR BELOVED ONES AGAIN". That was EPIC
But after all of this Caroline is Alone forever. When Alaric and the girls will dies she will be alone forever I don't think it's a good ending for everyone .. :'(
Forever is a long - long term! Life is so unpredictable, you never know what comes in the corner. That's the beauty of the life, and as Elena said, the pain is the lost of living like love its how we know we're alive. She can go and find Klaus, who always wanted to be her last love. If not, life will give her opportunities to fall in love again. There in no "only one love", as long as you let yourself free to fall in love again. Cause at the end of all, life goes on no matter what.

There was a fan written ending that I read which came out at the end of season 6 when Elena was put in the coffin, that would've been a better ending. To sum it up, it went like this: years passed and Damon opens the coffin and Elena wakes up. After being reunited, they talk about the lives of everyone and how they are. Damon tells her that Stefan and Caroline got married and are traveling the world. Matt became sheriff and started rebuilding a better relationship with his father. Tyler returned to mystic falls and took over as mayor, where he and Matt maintained a close friendship. Alaric continued working as a college professor, teaching the occult, of course. Bonnie and Jeremy decided to start dating again, which ended up with them marrying and having kids in mystic falls. Bonnie died after living a long life and Jeremy, at an old, is still alive. Damon takes her to see him and they have a heartfelt reunion. Damon then takes the cure and they live their human lives together. Another fast forward into the future and Caroline and Stefan are back in mystic falls, in front of 2 tomb stones that belong to Damon and Elena, where they leave flowers for them. They get into Stefan's car and decide to drive by the high school for memory sake. That when they see two familiar faces; a boy and girl. The dopplegangers of Stefan and Elena. And their story starts how it began.

jo He would have a doppelganger the same way Katherine had Elena in the beginning. As long as the bloodline continues, it will occur. Stefan would have his other human relative (the one he killed this season but let's say this ending happens after season 6) to carry on his bloodline. But this is what I think will explain that.
+jo Stefan is dead. He's a vampire. There was a human doppelgänger, the doctor, the one Enzo killed in Season 5. That death would have triggered another doppelganger.

This ending was pretty good, but it was so rushed. They wasted so much time on the silly drama and the "oh no!" of Mystic Falls blowing up. I honestly would've been happy if they spent an hour in this episode JUST saying goodbye instead of seeing them take on a pathetic, helpless version of Katherine who literally just let herself die over and over. Bonnie blocking the hellfire was great, but the Katherine scenes were done so poorly. They should've spent at least half the episode giving us meaningful goodbyes (Jeremy and Elena? Siblings? No? Bonnie and Jeremy? Caroline's goodbye to elena?) Smh
They had to seriously rush filming which caused them to miss many avenues that they wanted to explore, and leave out several characters too. In fact, they didn't actually finish filming this episode until February of this year.

I'm so glad I stuck with TVD all this time, even though the last few seasons weren't the best. This last episode had me crying the entire time. So emotional. I know a lot of people weren't satisfied with the ending because there wasn't an epic Delena reunion or whatever with fireworks, but I thought it was perfect. It shows that the show wasn't just about them. It was about Stefan and Caroline and Bonnie and Matt and Enzo and everyone else we've come to love throughout the 8 seasons. TVD was a combination of things: weird, messy, complicated, sad, wonderful, amazing but above all uncontrolably and undeniably EPIC.

This episode had some good scenes to it but not enough closure at all , no matt and Tyler scene , Jeremy with Elena ? Stefan and klaus ? Damon and Alaric ? Damon and Bonnie ? They missed so many scenes . Should have made the actual episode 2 hours instead of the hour recap of all the seasons before this episode

I think because they died human, the ending was in a way their personal "heaven" if that makes sense... and she says they grow old together.. so the new show doesn't technically start after they die, cause then the timeline wouldn't add up. It just showed THEIR ending, after living full human lives together. I'm pretty sure they're still alive but older in the new show Legacy's, but they would be slightly older, and probably won't appear in the show. Also in The Originals, when Elijah and Hope are sitting outside, it shows the door of a building that says "Dr.Elena Gilbert" so I'm sure they'll be plenty of references to the original characters even if they're not officially apart of the new shows cast.

Elena is reading saying after our long happy life together damon doesn't know if he will see Stefan again, worried. That's why he smiles like that and when he disappears it's so he can go get that peace and she gets hers, but they are already in afterlife together. This video has just come up in my suggested and I watched it and burst out in tears. This show really knows how to make you love all of the characters and pull on your heartstrings. Even after not watching this for a while, I still feel so sad. Definitely need to give the series a rewatch again. A series that never gets old.

I think this show takes so much criticism but it was entertaining, full of twists, made us care (sometimes obsess😂) about each character and relationship. I'm not saying it was perfect but it was awesome. The ending was perfect though. Gonna miss it so much ❤

Stephen forcing Damon to drink blood, to become a vampire in the first place, so he wouldn’t be alone. Juxtaposed with him giving Damon the cure, allowing his brother & Elena to live out a happy, human life together. A beautiful ending in my humble opinion. Damon and Stephen were the true protagonists of the series, and their love for each other was the heart.

The only thing that disappointed me in the finale is that they didnt give a dialogue to Delena. I mean, Damon saw the love of his life after three or more years, all healthy and beautiful, and he didn't even get to say, "I missed you," which makes me sad. I loved how they zoomed in onto her 'wedding' ring. I wish we could have gotten a glimpse of their married life, like with their kids. They deserved this much, after a long separation and so much pain.

Ian didn't even want Nina to return for the finale, and how unfair was that for the fans? Thank God Julie had the final word. I know they spun this in the media that there was no hard feelings between Ian and Nina, but Ian could not hide the fact that there were.
I watched a comic con video on you tube where he argues that she wasn't coming back...that Julie Plec promised him...Julie told him she must have been drunk then because promises were made that Nina would return for the finale if possible. You can watch it on you tube...type in Ian somerhalder disses Nina Dobrev's return for Vampire Diaries finale.. Watch it and tell me what you think!
Also, watch the reactions of all the other cast members. You can see how much they disagreed with Ian and how happy they were that Julie and Matt spoke up. Nina always said great things about Ian after their break up...this was very shallow of Ian. IMO

To be honest no matter what she says, you can tell Julie Plec has been playing favourites with Damon since basically the beginning.
- Stefan has spent the entire 8 seasons trying to do what is right by everyone, the poor guy was a ripper since the beginning, he could have chosen to ignore it and just kill anyone he wants, but instead he chose to drink animal blood even though it tastes like shit. Over the seasons he has been forced to turn his humanity off and become a ripper repeatedly, which always leaves him guilty as fuck. His girlfriend then leaves him, because for some reason becoming a vampire made Elena love Damon more. He then dies with Caroline of all people seemingly being the most upset about it, then returns only to loose his brother in the process, this leads to him trying to start a new life, which is abruptly ended when his new girlfriend is killed by Enzo, who then proceeds to try ruining his life because he has been a 'bad wittle bwother' for not wallowing in self pity. He finds out he could of had a baby with Valerie only for it to get aborted by Julian, he watches his mother die, God the list really is fucking endless. Then is the last season when things are finally looking up for him, he gets forced to become an errand boy for Cade which results in him becoming a ripper and emotionless at the same time. The cure then gets forced into him yet again making him go on a guilt trip, along with every single person he has compelled making him remember all the shit he has done with his emotions turned off, which makes him a human target for everyone. And to end it all he sacrifices himself to save Damon a day after getting married. Oh yeah and during his last goodbye to Elena when he tells her he sacrificed himself, she essentially says "yeah, but Damon is alright isn't he?"
- Damon wasn't a ripper, yet killed people regardless. He forced Stefan to become a ripper for years, killed more of his descendants then I dare count. Chose the easy option of shutting of his humanity so he didn't feel guilty about not saving Enzo, during this time he also ripped the person who Enzo loved head off (which apparently Enzo can forgive, but Stefan giving up on Damon is a big no no) He has basically been the cause of most of the problems throughout all 8 seasons. Oh yeah, when Elena didn't want to be around him he would throw a baby tantrum and kill people she cared about including her own brother. Whilst all this is going on he is also complaining about how Stefan gets everything whilst he gets nothing, he is suppose to be the older brother right?
The least Julie Plec could have done was give Stefan a happy end with him staying as a vampire and live happily with Caroline. She could have worked in the human Elena and Damon happy life dabble without killing Stefan.

The fact that she was the only vampire left just irks me. She didn't get the happy ending she deserved. Naturally, Elena's took over therefore stomping on hers.
Klaus always saw her as nothing but what she had always been, a true gem. No one else saw it, not even herself until Klaus shed a light.
Caroline's and Stefan's love was still beautiful, don't get me wrong. Let's not forget he rejected her right away. But this is what I think so many many people loved seeing about their blooming relationship, she got out of the so called "friend-zone". This relationship represented a "real-life" scenario. It wasn't some emotional high, mushy-gushy, thing that was full of passion. They had issues, real ones, and before they were lovers, they were best friends, which is exactly why most people fell in love with these two being together.
On the other hand, Caroline is left all alone now, as the only vampire of ALL her best friends (unless she were to somehow find another dose of the cure which is HIGHLY unlikely-then again anything can obviously happen in Mystic falls). Caroline simply wanted to find the love of her life, and she didn't even get that with Stefan, meaning, that not even 24 hours into her marriage she never had to chance to be TRULY happy. It always ended in heartbreak for her. Whether it was Tyler or her mom, Caroline always got shoved aside.
This was seen with Stefan, it was always a lose-lose for their relationship. She knew, she ALWAYS knew, that Stefan would always have to put Damon first, and vice versa. And that is exactly what we so sadly saw in the final episode. Stefan choosing his brothers happiness over his own, thus Caroline getting completely pooped on (for a legit reason, but it still was heartbreaking to see). She just wanted someone to chose her, make HER number one.
And this is EXACTLY why I feel so many people have the weird, yet insanely deep appreciation and love for Klaus. He truly saw Caroline for what she deserved, and what she was REALLY worth. That's what love is. Finding the person who sees your good AND your bad (it's there, trust me), yet still desires to be with you, despite all of your shortcomings.
So please, I BEG, let her find the one thing she was most afraid of NOT getting, a happily ever after with the love of her life.

Just to mention, from what I could observe, no one particularly enjoyed Caroline in the beginning of the series. She was rude, immature, emotional, and down right annoying. Then she changed. She became this person we all started rooting for. When Nina Dobrev (Elena) decided to leave the show....w
it generally screwed A LOTTT of things up. But Caroline came in and added a whole new dimension. She along with Bonnie stepped up and took the female lead. They proved just how amazing the VPD's could still be without her.
And to completely honest, having Elena back felt too long over due and almost unbalanced or unnatural. We knew she HAD to at some point, but it seemed so out of place. Sad to see it end like this.

I know loads of people have been complaining about a lack of passion between Ian and Nina...but I think a Delena reunion - no matter how passionate or not it was- is all hardcore delena fans could hope for. Just knowing that after a hell of an adventure, heartbreak and consuming passion, these two souls found eachother again and lived out the perfect lives that they had always imagined together...and found peace together...so I think everyone should stop complaining and just be grateful to have witness one of the most epic romances TV could've given us...TVDFOREVER
Kasturi Datta did they get separated after death though? Cause she was with her family but she still had the ring.
sarra doust I don't think they got separated, I think it just showed us that they each found their own families in the end
But Damon vanished and was no longer holding her hand- she was surprised to see him go before she saw her family. I'm not sure they were in the same world?
I don't really know, I just like thinking that they found peace together and will stay together for eternity
