Let's Play: GTA IV - The Best Stunt Ever
/ letsplay
Man, there hasn't been a good Gavin/Ryan logic argument in a while. I miss those.
while watching this i kept expecting "he's still in the air" jokes but that hadn't happened yet as of the recording of this video, so it only existed in my mind.
Gavin has always been horrible at explaining things, thus making himself look like an idiot. The way he worded his phrase made it seem like that each coin flip decreases the chances of getting heads, thus 12.5% on the last flip. What he really meant was the sequence has a 12.5% chance of happening. This is what Ryan was trying to tell him. Each coin flip has a 50% chance of being heads and a 50% chance of being tails, with the particular outcome Gavin mentions(3 heads) being a 12.5% chance. Michael barreled over Ryan while he was explaining this part which is why very few actually heard it.
So once again an Achievement Hunter argument ends with both sides being correct?
***** more or less but the way he said it made it sound like the previous flip had a direct influence on the next making himself look like an idiot
***** no equal weight, each flip is 50/50, with the whole sequence being 12.5%, being equal to the other 7. He has a 87.5% chance of not getting it, which is not super rare as Gavin claimed
If we don't care is there a comment thread for that too ?
@@ironmancan1352 I don't think so.
Coming back to their GTA IV Let’s Plays reminds me of just how much fun this game was. Back before the GTA Online got so muddled up with griefers, OP vehicles, ridiculously over priced crap.
Not to mention just how fun the game mechanics are, watching them fly around so much only to end up surviving so many of the falls/rag dolls reminds me of just how easy it is to die in GTA V
Yeah GTA online used to be fun. Then they ruined it. I remember back in 2013 when randoms were actually friendly and everyone had fun going to the airport and getting a jet from the fort. Laughing hard as everyone tried to avoid getting blasted by the tanks.
What do y’all mean? Old gta online was a dead game, that’s why they needed heists
@@kingcrimson1222 It wasn't dead. Everyone was just in freemode fucking around having fun stealing jets, racing each other, and killing other crews. Remember?
@@kingcrimson1222 oh please, I remember sinking hours and hours into Cops V crooks,
Chopper v chopper
And just free roaming, sniping people traveling through Times Square, being chased by buzzards at the airport while I’m white knuckling the handlebars of a motorcycle

Ryan is still in the air.
Odds of flipping three heads in a row is 1/8
1/2 chance... either you get 3 heads in a row, or you dont get 3 heads in a row.
Or you get a combination of heads and tales?
P(three heads) = 1/2*3 = 1/8
Learn maths please.
Dwayne McNeilson No learn english asshat
Dwayne McNeilson getting a combination of having heads and tales is the same as not getting 3 heads in a row because there is at least one tales.
Little known fact: The heads side of a coin weighs more than the tails side, making it easier to get three tails in a row than heads.
theres something about ray chasing ryan with a knife while ryans holding a rocket launcher that never ceases to be funny
...of all time.
heh.
heh.
heh.
Yes indeed
what's funny is....neither gavin or ryan are wrong
Ryan is wrong
Shout out to "GetaLife" at 3:16 . Thanks, Rockstar.
I am with Gavin on the heads and tails thing. randomness, impossibility and probability are seperate things!
Oh God, were these really that long ago…..?
32:48 *giggles" Team Same Voice...that "Thank you"...
There is a difference between the probability of flipping 3 heads in a row, and the probability of flipping heads on the final of 3 throws. The probability of the first is 1 in 8. The probability of the 2nd is still 1 in 2 as the probability of heads on any GIVEN toss is still 50/50
But I had coins land on the side before... Anyways; the whole probability thing is a silly thing to contemplate on.
There's always the 50/50 chance when flipping the coin. Then there's the larger probability on how many times you'll flip it and the odds of that being the same. It's odds within odds and like the other guy said, its stupid to argue on xD
Gavin is totally right though.
Almost two years passed, still it was so fun blasting each other around! Why you can do thing like this in GTA V? Come on, Rockstar! People just want to gets rocket luncher everywhere and blast people to the sky friendly!
Davide Gelpi At no point would I ever think the words Rocket Launcher and Friendly would be used in the same Sentence.
Connor Calder That guy got real 'friendly' when i pulled out my 'Rocket Launcher'.

Gavin is right. You have 8 possible outcomes.
Is that so?
@@echo12345ish yes, let H be heads and T be tales. There are 8 options;
H H H
H H T
H T H
H T T
T H H
T H T
T T H
T T T
So the penny facing the same face every single time ( HHH or TTT) is only one out of 8 options and the chance of that happening is 1/8 which is less than 50% and Ryan is full of shit
@@JUK3MASTER 6 years later it has finally been resolved lmao.
The first time I watched this I paused, found a quarter, flipped it three times, and got heads all three times.

First time I read this comment, got a cent, flipped it three times, and got HHH.

How do you confuse the voices of Ray and Gavin?
4:37 I WARNED YOU BOUT THOSE STAIRS BRO!!!!!!!
"THATS AS GOOD AS ITS GONNA GET WE DID IT" is my motto for everything
To get 3 heads in a row is less probable then getting any other combination of heads or tails for 3 coins. 3 heads is 1/2 x 1/2 x 1/2 = 1/8 meaning the chance of getting any other combination is 7/8ths.
True that, but that was not what they were trying to explain to Gavin. Gavin was saying that the third flip had 1/8 the chance of landing heads because the first two were heads. The other guys were arguing that that third flip, as an individual flip, was still a 1/2 chance to get heads. They were arguing two different aspects of the same problem. lol.
Better idea is to do this, but whomever shoots someone onto a building gets a point! First to 3 wins
Did they ever resolve the coin flip argument? Because Gavin is absolutely right. The chances of getting three heads in a row is 1/8
+MrBingping In minecraft monopoly they had gavin flip a coin three times, he got heads each time.
+threeeyedmonkeydodo they're both right in their own way.
+MrBingping Ryan is looking at the individual coin flip and how its 50-50 every time no matter what while Gavin is looking at the probability of flipping it three times and getting heads every time. Both they're points are correct but they both think the other is trying to disprove their own point.
+jonny lomj right, Ryan is talking about the probability of the the flip where as Gavin is describing the probability of the series. But Gavin was made to look stupid from the argument so I wonder if it was ever cleared up what he meant
+MrBingping They're both right, but they also argue from different points of view. Gavin argues from the perspective that one tails immediately ruins the sequence and since there are 7 outcomes that contain tails and ruins the sequence he makes the point that not getting a tails is harder than getting a tails. Ryan argues from a perspective of pure chance (meaning he considers all different outcomes as HHH, HHT, HTT, TTT, TTH, THH, HTH, THT) where one outcome is just as likely as the other each time you restart the three coin flip sequence. Getting HHH is 1/8 but so is also getting a HHT or a THT or a THH.
"I can't wait for GTA 5" -Geoff
To bad you can't do anything this fun in that game...
0:57
Hate to break it to everyone but Gavin is right, he just got really lucky. it is 50/50 every time you throw it, but it is a 1/8 to get 3 consecutive heads in a row. Its called probability. Here's how it works:
The probability of landing heads in a coin flip is 1/2, heads again is 1/2, and heads again is 1/2. You take all of the fractions and multiply them together, like so: 1/2 X 1/2 X 1/2 = 1/8. This is the chance of getting all heads or any other combination.
This is how lotteries are so unbelievable hard to win. There are 75 numbers and you pick the same 5 numbers that are the winning numbers. It is 1/75 to pick each number every time, but you take 1/75 and multiply it by itself 4 more times, like so:
1/75 X 1/75 X 1/75 X 1/75 X 1/75 = 1/*2,373,046,875*
So yes, its 50/50 every throw, but in a consecutive order, every throw you add on, you must multiply what you already have by 1/2. Take it from a guy who just took a class all about this, but for once, Gavin is completely and utterly correct.
FalconDuke it’s a “correct” from me
They so need to make a custom deathmatch in GTA V with just rockets all over the place and do a LP like this again.
In GTAV, they would die
Wow, flipping coins in GTA is *_fuckin dangerous..._*
Watching this as the countdown to No Man's Sky ticks down. 34 minutes left. By the time I watch this Let's Play I get to play NMS for the first time. IM SO EXCITED
What do you think of NMS now it's out?
jimbojambo_2000 Expected it to be just exploring stuff and that's exactly what I got. Feel sorry for everyone else who isn't enjoying it :/
It's all a lie
No Man's Sky is actually 95% Minecraft and 5% everything else
+WolveMaster22 I don't feel like that's the case. in NMS, you gather resources that you absolutely need to survive and progress. Minecraft, the only _real_ resource you need is food.
Gavin literally never listened to anyone. He was specifically told to get a bike for the stunt and ignored Geoff.
Gavin trolling everyome with Teenage Mutant Hero Turtle is hilarious
Gavin's right. Statistically, a sequence of multiple chances is NOT identical to a single chance in that sequence. So your chances of getting three heads in a row is one in eight. That also means that in large series of coin flips (Say, 100 coins) it's more likely that you'll achieve a large string of heads than not.
Ryan's flaw is in assuming that "It gives you three heads" is equivalent to "It gives you a different number," and it's not. "It gives you three heads" is equivalent to "It gives you Heads, Heads, Tails", "It gives you Tails, Tails, Heads," "It gives you Heads, Tails, Heads", "It gives you Tails, Tails, Tails," or any other *exact* sequence of three coins, of which there are eight possible outcomes.
Merlewhitefire I was under the impression that Ryan was attempting to state that the probabilities of getting a head after throwing 2 previous tosses is equal for all 3 tosses, his question was not about achieving 3 heads in a row. Of which would be 1/8th. Taking out all physical factors and assuming the coin is being thrown in a perfect environment there would be no change in variable between all 3 tosses given that they are mutually exclusive and that there is no change in the coins state. Gavin states that because the previous 2 events occurred, this will influence the third toss. However Ryan's question did not ask for a sample space of 3 outcomes, it only suggested whether the third will be influenced by the previous 2. And since each one does not effect the other, order and outcome are unnecessary to take into account when considering the probability based on expected frequency.
Ryan was saying getting a head the 3rd time you flip a coin is the same as getting the 1st time, not getting it 3 times in a row.
***** I know it was irrelevant, they just didn't understand eachother.
Ryan misunderstood, because Gavin phrased the question like a retarded octopus. Ryan was talking about the individual chance of a coin landing on heads, Gavin was saying that the chance of getting that 50/50 shot 3 times in a row is less. So they're both right, because they're arguing different things.
Ryan is still in the air!
This should be a gamemode in gta 5
Well the time around 4:30
When Ray says howdy I can't help but laugh & smile. Haha
so the whole coin thing...lets take all the possibilities of flipping three coins...TTT TTH THT THH HHH HHT HTH HTT...yes, HHH only appears once. now lets isolate the last flip...there are four heads, and four tails, thus explaining that there is still a 50/50 chance of getting heads on the third flip. there is no magical force saying the outcome of the flip is directly influenced by the other two flips.
addition:for any occurence of the first two flips, there are still only two possibilities for the third. ex:if the first two flips are HH the third can be either H or T, resulting in HHH/HHT, thus making the chance for HHH still 50/50. this applies for all four possibilites of the first two flips.
44Muffinz Which website you get that off ?
I want to see them try and recreate this in GTA V
It wont work nearly as well, or be nearly as funny, the ragdoll in gta 5 if fucking terrible compared to this, mix that with no ability to turn off friendly fire, and you have nothing but a shit storm coming lol
Shots fired
the rag doll is so much better in this game for player and npc
"How far away you are it, Ray?" Courtesy of Gavin's Excellent Grammar!
I'm with Ryan on the coin issue.
They're both right, Gavin's just explaining his argument really badly.
Basically, if you have three people each with one coin, and they toss them all at once, the probability of every coin landing heads is 1/8. But each coin's individual chance of landing heads is 1/2.
Aaron Cummings Unless the order of the outcome is irrelevant, in which case its a 1/4 chance they will all be heads... HHH, TTT, HTT, THH - Four possibillities, 1/4 chance
True, but when talking about probability, the chance of getting those three heads is still 1/8.
***** I'd say he's just really bad at explaining things. Like all the time. Or maybe he's egging Ryan on so that when Gavin finally explains it properly, then Ryan will feel even more annoyed. :P
They're both correct... they're arguing different things. Also, Ryan is obviously more eloquent than Gavin, which is why it seems like his argument is more correct, where in the scenarios that both of them imagining, they're both correct.

What's the deal with Jack and female characters?
He doesn't want to spend the entire time staring at a dude's ass. If he's playing a game for an extended period of time, he would rather stare at a girl's ass.
That's actually amazing
bloodydeath808 That is EXACTLY what I tell people. Or someone games when you sprint, melee, etc. you will hear panting and groaning and moaning. You really wanna listen to a dude? ( If you're a homosexual male )

Oh my God I can't wait until the GTA 5 Lets Plays come out it's going to be awesome!!
The stats convo was awesome. BTW, both of you are partly correct. Each outcome is independent, but the probabilities for any series of flips is determined by the binomial distribution. Rock on Lads, Gents.

Dear Gavin & Ryan, the odds of getting heads will always be 50-50. The odds of getting three heads in a row is 1/8.
The stuff with the ramp they did was pretty awesome. When they used the motorbikes they should have used parachutes as well.
11:09 has to be one of the funniest things I've seen in GTA Let's Plays
"What do we do next?"
"Eachother" - Ray
You are correct in saying that there is a 1 in 4 chance of getting 2 heads in a row, but that also means that you have a 1 in 4 chance of getting 2 tails in a row or 1 head then 1 tail.
If the probability of getting a head is 1/2 and the probability of getting a tail is 1/2, then any combination you can think of is just as likely as any other with the same amount of flips.
Gavin and Ryan are both actually right about the coin flip. the odds of getting 3 heads three times in a row is 1 in 8 however the odds of the next coin being heads at any part in the sequence is still 1 in 2

I love each of the Achievement Hunter guys in different ways, but I think it evens out. I'd show love to each of them if I ever met them :D they're all wonderful in their own unique ways.
Well I'd be terrified of Michael. And Geoff. Honestly, I love them all, but all of them (with the exception of Jack and Ryan) seem like they aren't particularly welcoming towards new comers. So I'd probably meet with Ryan and Jack, maybe Ray.
Same, Michael and Geoff are intimidating. Geoff more so. But I believe Ray really does love or at least respect the fans.
Stephanie Z. I doubt they'd be nasty, I just somehow feel that Michael, Geoff and Gav would be constantly judging me.
I'd want them to like me, like I need their approval or something if I ever met them in person. I bet they're actually sweethearts.
Samar Jayachandran it's an act they put on for the videos, a character. They all enjoy the fans and love them, Michael and Geoff are the only ones who seldomly say it giving off the impression they are jackasses when they aren't. The fans they insult during the video are the idiotic ones who say "fire Jack, there mean to Gavin, etc." If you meet them it depends on what they are doing. Like for example Geoff, Jack, Ryan and Ray will actually stop and talk to you if you see them somewhere, or have you tag along for a bit if they are busy. Michael and Gavin are quite different, if they are busy they will actually tell you to go away.
i love ray entertaining micheals travis barkley notion

Gavin is right about the probability of the coins. the probability for continuing events with the same likelihood of occurrences is the probability of that occurrence (.5) raised to the power of trials performed (3). (.5^3) is [(1/2)^3]=1/8=.125 and not the original .5
To be honest it sounds like they're both right, but not listening to each other. Ryan's saying that the previous coin flips don't effect the current ones. Gavin's saying that it's not 50/50 that the coin will be heads on all 3 flips... that's what I took from it anyway.... either way... Rocket Launchers.
This is how Rocket Jumpers in TF2 should be like
Gavin: [Laughing] Humility... that's not a word
Ryan: Gavin, I can see how you would think that wasn't a word.
Gavin: Why would that not be a word, Ryan?
Gavin simply cannot be argued with; he forgets his own position far too fast.
